#PrayerAndTheWord

“There's a spiritual warfare going on every time we encounter God's word. Every time we share God's word, there's a spiritual battle going on because the devil does not want us to hear God's word and take it into our hearts and make changes. If we are going to understand what God has to say to us, we've got to pray.”

#BuiltOnChrist

“Jesus is not merely a a a helpful addition to our lives. Friends, he is the foundation upon which everything should be built. He is the foundation, friends. He is the appointed foundation for our lives. He is he is what each individual life is to be built on if we wanna be in a right relationship with God. he is also the foundation that every rightful church is to be built upon as well.”

#WordTransformsLife

“Friends, because the more we get into God's word, the more God's word gets into us. Can I say that again? The more we get into God's word, the more God's word gets into us. And the more God's word gets into us and into our mind, friends, the more it begins to shape and inform our thinking. And the more God's word begins to shape our thinking, the more it begins to correct our behavior. The more it corrects our behavior, the more it strengthens our faith, and more it shapes our character as a whole. And thus, it changes your life.”

#HolinessAsGodsChildren

“Holiness is something we do on the back end, not the front end. Let me explain what I mean by that. Holiness is... We don't pursue holiness in order to become god's children. This can be very easily misunderstood. Okay? Well, okay, we're supposed to be holy. And if I become holy enough, then God will accept me. That's not it. God's grace is available to all who will come to him and and turn from their sin into him. Amen? And so we don't pursue holiness to become god's children. We pursue holiness because we are god's children.”

#JesusSaves

“That because we are separated from him by our sin, he sent his son Jesus, the second person of the trinity, to die on the cross, to pay the penalty for our sin, and he rose from the grave on the third day to prove that he was who he said he was and that... To prove that he could give us new life. Amen? So that if we will respond in faith and we'll believe that he has done that for us, our name may be written in the book of life. We may be born again by the spirit of God, and we may have a living hope and an eternal inheritance that God keeps us for in heaven. Amen?”

#JesusIsEnough

“they give us and allow us, excuse me, to bring glory to God. Our lives can bring glory to god by the work that god's doing in them. God's making us from what we used to be to be like Christ. And that will give him glory. Friends, we don't need health, wealth, prosperity, success to have unspeakable joy. You know what we need? Jesus. That's right. We need Jesus. That's all we need, friends. He is enough.”

#EternalPerspective

“friends, here's a misconception that most people have. In fact, let me just say, I believe, yeah, most people. I'm not gonna put a percentage on it. I believe most people have this misconception. Most people believe and think that we're in the land of the living going to the land of the dying. That's the way most people live. You know? They do anything, pay anything, at any cost just to keep their life here on this earth. But the truth of the matter is, if you're really thinking about it, we are not in the land of the living going to the land of the dying. We are in the land of the dying. Everything here dies. Everything. We're in the land of the dying going to the land of the living.”

#ForgivenAndClean

“Listen. Anytime the devil does that to you and he comes and reminds you of your sin, if you trusted Christ as your savior, then just if you haven't already confessed it to him, acknowledge it to him, repent of it, and then think of that sin as being paid in full, friends, because it is. covered under the blood. And so, that, you can then live with a pure heart and a clean conscience before God. Friends, because that is what Jesus has made available to you. Amen? Continual cleansing from and covering of your sin.”

#BeHisWitness

“Who are his witnesses in the world? We are. Okay? His followers are his witnesses. We are the ones that are gonna tell others about him. And so you may be thinking, well, pastor, why should, you know, why should I do that? Well, you know, I think most of the time when we think about sharing the gospel, we think about those who we really care about. Right? Our family, maybe our extended family, our friends, those we work with. And we should share the gospel with all of them. Okay? But here's what we need to remember is, every single person who doesn't know Jesus as their personal lord and savior is gonna spend eternity separated from him in hell. That's what the Bible teaches.”

#GodKeepsPromises

“Friends, what's the point here? The point is that God keeps his promises. God preserved the lineage of David. Why? Because they all were faithful and they were great men. No, not at all. But because God had a bigger, better plan for us friends, and that is to send his sign, the second person of the trinity, to step out of heaven, to come through a very human woman by the name of Mary as a virgin. To live a sinless life, to offer himself as the sacrifice for our sins so that you and I could be saved.”

#NewLifeThroughChrist

“And so here's the point I'm trying to make friends is new life in Christ is not possible unless you let God blow up the old stuff. He's already defeated sin and Satan, friends. And that offer of salvation and a right relationship with him is available to you today. And so if you've never put your faith and trust in him, if you've never let him blow that old life up, cover your sin with the blood of Christ, and surrender your heart and life to him. I wanna plead with you. Would you do that today?”

#JesusPaidItAll

“``Friends, fable is, in essence, what God, through the Lord Jesus Christ, has done for us. The second person of the godhead, our Lord Jesus Christ, has stepped out of heaven to take the punishment that we deserve. And so, friends, when you breathe your last breath and step into eternity, there there is basically one of two ways it can go. Either can take the take your chances, if you will, and take the lashes, the punishment for your sin upon yourself, and spend eternity separated from god in eternal, everlasting hell. you can let him cover you like that king with the wonderful love of the lord Jesus Christ. You can let your sin be paid on the cross by turning from your sin and putting your faith and trust in him. God offers that free gift to all who will turn and believe.”

#GodCenteredPrayer

“What I do want you to see in here in that in that simple prayer that Jesus shares with us and and gives us an example of is just how it's it's all focused on god. How we should acknowledge god, how we should yield to him, how we should surrender to him, and how we should trust in him. It's it's all about god, right? It's all about surrendering, yielding, acknowledging to him. God's the center of our prayers. It's not us.”

#SovereignSavior

“``Friends, the truth is that god's ultimate purpose and plan and what he will bring to pass in the lord Jesus Christ and through faith in him is to gather some from all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues to salvation in him. Is god the sovereign ruler overall? Yes. He is. And every single person who's ever lived on the face of the planet is accountable to him. Is god the final judge overall? Yes. The Bible says that what? That that we will stand before him in judgement, right? It is appointed for man to die once and after this, the judgment. But friends, here's what I'm here to tell you is, he is also the blessed savior of all who will put their faith and trust in his son, Jesus Christ.”

#MercyOverJudgment

“``Friends, God is saying, group whatever pain you are experiencing, listen, that is miniscule in compared to what I am experiencing. God's anger is soaked in tears. He didn't wanna have to destroy the Israelites. In fact, one of the reasons God is so long suffering he was long suffering with them, and he's so long suffering with us. I started to bring in this several verses in the book of Isaiah, of course, we have in second Peter also, and I think I referred to this past week, that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. In other words, God is not quick to judge because he doesn't want to bring destruction and judgment on any on his people or us. He wants to forgive. He is much much more wants us to repent and turn back to him so that he can forgive us.”

#GraceThroughWarning

“``Isn't god gracious? Isn't god gracious? Now, some of you may be saying, wait a minute, pastor. This was you just read a bunch of verses about judgment, about consequences for their sin. How can you call that gracious? How does god pronouncing judgment? How is that gracious? Friends, it's gracious because it was a warning to them. Even friends in his pronouncements of judgments, god is gracious because those pronouncements of judgment are a warning to us. God warns us for what reason? To give us an opportunity repent.”

#AddToYourFaith

“Verse five says, add to your faith. The word add refers to giving in abundance in generously. And also in the crew in in the Greek, culture, the word was used in the reference to a choir director who was responsible for providing everything necessary for the choir. He never referred to giving with meanness, but in great abundance to guarantee an excellent performance. And, also, you need we need to remember that god has given us faith in all the necessary graces in plenty way so we can live, so we can add those things to our lives, to our Christian's life.”

#AdoptionIsPrivilege

“But I would argue adoption that's the second thing god did for us. In this passage, he says he has adopted us. God adopted us. Adoption is the highest privilege that the gospel offers. Justification, higher even than justification. Maybe your eyebrow raises and you go, what do you I don't know about that. Isn't justification the whole point? Justification is the core of the gospel. It's the heart of Christianity. But the highest privilege is that god what did he do in justification? He took our sin. He put it on his son and gave the punishment to him instead of us and made us righteous, in his sight so that we could be forgiven of all our sins by simply putting our faith in Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross and in his resurrection, we could be forgiven and clean. That would have been enough.”

#NewCreationFreedom

“``It's not a do over. It's not turning over a new leaf. It's not a New Year's resolution, friend. It's a killing of the old man and the birth of the new, and that's what happens to you. Jesus said this way, most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. You, my friend, when you were made righteous with God, you became a new creation. You're free. You're free. to not sin. You're free to not bow down to the false gods of this world.”

Amen? That's what's needed. We don't need just good men, we need godly men. You see what was missing in Judah in chapters forty and forty one really was the same thing that was missing in Judah for quite some time, friends, and that is what is truly needed is God.”

#NoPlayingGamesWithGod

“Friends, in other words, God basically is saying here, don't play games with me. Don't think that you can that you can make some half hearted oath and then try to appear all pious and righteous, like you are all of a sudden trying to follow me, yet your heart is far from me, which is evident by your turning away from your oath and your lack of obedience to what I say.”

#TrustGodWithYourFuture

“Friends, our God's performance is more impeccable than that. Why would I pick Tom Brady? Because past performance is a predictor of future God's past is perfect. All of his promises he fulfills. We can trust him. We can lean on him. We can rely on him. We can put our future in his hands. And if you've never ever done that before, I wanna encourage you to do that today. Would you trust him with your life? Would you trust him with your future? Maybe you're here today and you've you've trusted Jesus as your savior, but there's a lot of stuff going on in your life. Would you give it over to him? Would you say, Lord Jesus, I trust you. Lord Jesus, I'm gonna put it all into your hands today. Would you do that now? Let's pray.”

#FaithOverGrit

“It sounds almost laughable. But isn't this what we do every day? Isn't this what we're always tempted to do? To do our Christian life by our own strength, by our own flesh, to think I'll if I just work harder, I just I just white knuckle it, I just bear down, and I'll get it. We are tempted to do that. “Having the law written on our hearts, on our inmost being is not speaking about having intellectual knowledge or actual verses that God places in our hearts. What it's speaking of is a transformed heart, a transformed attitude, and transformed behavior. It is speaking of an obedience to God that doesn't is not just on the outside, but that comes on the inside.”

“And and and because they got upset and killed him that then he decided that rising from the dead was what he would do next. That would no friends. This was the plan from the beginning. #JustifiedByFaith

“We are justified by faith alone. What is justified? That is that word means declared righteous. The the, word that Paul wrote down in the Greek is, it's a legal courtroom term. Like when you go to court for parking tickets and you can prove that your car wasn't actually there and so they don't apply to you and the judge declares you righteous. You're declared innocent. You're acquitted. That's what this word has to do with. Justification, declared righteous. How are we declared righteous? How are we justified? Not by works.”

“These verses, friends, unequivocally proclaim the judgment of the Lord upon the wicked and upon all those who sin against him, specifically when? In the latter days. It's very clear there, in the latter days. It this is no doubt rather harsh and jarring. Amen? But that is what sin deserves. Sin brings the wrath of God. That's my God. So friends, we can trust in him. Amen? Amen. We can trust in him. We can trust in his rule over all kings, all kingdoms, all nations.”

#IgnoredGodsWarnings

“So despite the fact that God sent prophet after prophet to warn them and to tell them that what they were doing was sin against him and that it was wrong, and that by not worshiping him and him alone, they were committing idolatry, and that they needed to repent of their sin and turn from their evil and back to him, which they should have already known. Amen? Despite all those warnings, time after time, year after year, decade after decade, century after century, they did not repent, They did not stop their wickedness. They didn't stop their immorality. They didn't stop their sexual perversions involved in that. They did not stop their child sacrifices to their false gods or any of those wicked things or the wicked actions that they were doing. Instead, they ignored God's warnings.”

#DontFeedSin

“``And one of the things I believe the devil wants us to believe is that if if I give in to this temptation just this once, just this once because it's, you know, whether whether it's that anger or or or whether whatever it is, friends, if I give in to it just this once, then that desire will be satisfied and it'll go away and I won't have any more trouble with it. That's not true, is it? Not true at all. It's not true at all, friends, because that is not the nature of sin. The nature of sin is that when you entertain or give in to those sinful desires, friends, you are feeding the sinful nature within you. Sin is by its very nature addictive. And so giving in once, what are you doing? You're feeding the war going on in your soul. You're creating torture for your soul.”

There's no good perfect king except for one. We as human beings want to find somebody to lead us and rule us just like the Israelites. He sent his son Jesus to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins so that we wouldn't have to and to rise again to give us new life. Friends, we must simply either accept his wonderful mercy and grace poured out on the cross for us by professing him as savior and lord of our life, or we get what we deserve. That's more than fair if you ask me. Because here's the deal, and many people think, well, you know, I I I've been a pretty good person. I I don't think I really sin that much. We rejoiced that God did not wait for us to climb our way up to him, but that he came down to us in the person of Jesus Christ, his son. But almost as soon as Christmas ends, there's a quiet temptation that creeps in. We begin to treat the incarnation as the starting point rather than the whole point. Paul says it's the ones teaching contrary things are the ones causing division that those who are calling out the falseness, the falsehood and clinging to the truth are. We are the ones fighting for unity. It is not anti biblical or unchristian or mean spirited to call out false things when we see them and hear them. It is seeking truth and seeking. And that's why he says he's not abolishing the law or what the prophet said. He said, I'm fulfilling them. I'm coming here to live and to fulfill them. #TurnedOverToSin

“If we continually reject God and don't want God in our lives, then he's going to eventually give us exactly what we want. And while I think this situation is fairly rare, I do believe it is possible to reach a point of unrepentant sin and rebellion against God, where God just finally lets a person have their own way and turns them over, as Romans chapter one says, is what I believe we see here in Jeremiah chapter 14, to a reprobate or a debased mind. So what does that say for us? Beware. Beware. Beware. Don't play games with God. Beware lest you think you have plenty of time. You may not have as much time as you think.”

#LukewarmDeception

“``If you think you can maintain a good relationship with God by being lukewarm in your faith, you're deceived. If you think you can maintain a good relationship with God by just giving him lip service, you're deceived. If you think you can maintain a good relationship with God by being half-hearted about spiritual things, by letting other things take precedence over your relationship with God, friends, then you're going to be rolling backwards before you know it.”

#GraceBreaksJudgment

“Judgment was real. It was deserved. It was undeniable. Yet in that moment, grace broke through like light piercing into a prison cell, offering freedom, grace, and goodness, where before only judgment stood.”

#ForgivenessTakesTime

“Now, as Christians, we know that we're supposed to forgive, right? We're supposed to turn the other cheek. We're supposed to forgive. As Christ has forgiven us, so are we also to forgive others. That is what we're supposed to do. But can we be honest? That's not usually our first reaction when somebody else hurts us, is it? That's not usually how we feel at first. In fact, it may take us a while to get there.”

#HeartDeceitfulness

“Our hearts do not lead us into doing what's right. Most of the time they lead us into doing what's wrong. That's why, you know what we need to follow? Not our heart, but God's word and his spirit. In fact, a few chapters later in Jeremiah, Jeremiah chapter 17, verse nine, Jeremiah writes, the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it? Friends, you can't tame your own heart.”

#WeNeedGodsHelp

“``How in the world do you come back from that? Here's the secret. You don't on your own. They couldn't on their own. Friends, that's what's so hard about our response to hardship. We cannot come back as we need to from hardship on our own. Friends, we need the Lord. Amen? No matter what has happened, no matter how hard it is, whether it's personal or family or health or job-related or like Judah, some national tragedy or difficulty, or even if it's something else, friends, the only way we can come back from it is with the Lord's help. It is by responding humbly and in a godly manner, turning to him.”

Beliefs

What denomination or network does the church belong to?
South Side Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist network, but it operates independently and is not under denominational control. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/new.html)

What are its stated core beliefs?
South Side Baptist Church’s stated core beliefs are:

- **The Bible** is divinely inspired, true, trustworthy, and the supreme standard for faith and conduct.
- **God** is one eternal God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- **Jesus Christ** is God’s Son, fully God and fully man. He lived without sin, died to redeem people from sin, rose from the dead, and will return.
- **Salvation** is by grace through faith in Jesus: people are forgiven and reconciled to God by believing in Jesus and confessing their need for him. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/beliefs.html) (https://www.southsidesbc.org/christmas.html)

How does it practice baptism and communion, and who can participate?
South Side practices believer’s baptism by immersion in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It symbolizes faith in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, and the believer’s new life in Christ. Baptism is a prerequisite for church membership and participation in the Lord’s Supper. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/beliefs.html)

The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act in which church members share bread and the fruit of the vine to remember Christ’s death and anticipate his return. Thus, the church describes participants as church members, with baptism preceding participation. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/beliefs.html)

What roles can women hold in church leadership?
At South Side, women can lead and serve in many ministry areas, but the church’s teaching reserves the pastor/elder/overseer role and doctrinal leadership over the church as a whole for men. The church identifies women’s ministry, children’s ministry, youth ministry, evangelism, and outreach as areas where women can serve and lead; it also has a Women’s Ministry Team focused on helping women grow in faith. ([01:01 from January 06, 2025]) (https://www.southsidesbc.org/ladies.html)

Practical service opportunities include welcoming and ushering, teaching or volunteering with children and students, outreach, worship, and production. These are listed as church-wide serving areas, and South Side says members can find a place to serve according to their gifts. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/serve.html)

The church’s teaching also says women are not to hold the pastor/elder/overseer office or a position of doctrinal leadership over men, and interprets the relevant passages as restricting women from public speaking to the whole church in worship. ([57:49 from January 06, 2025])

What are its stated policies concerning LGBTQ people?
South Side Baptist Church’s stated position is that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and that sexual expression belongs within that marriage. Its website does not give a separate policy about LGBTQ people’s membership or participation. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/beliefs.html)

In a sermon, we teach that God created people male and female and that a person’s gender should not be redefined apart from their biological sex. We also teach that same-sex sexual relations are contrary to biblical teaching. ([21:38 from November 21, 2022]) ([34:25 from November 21, 2022])

We also say that LGBTQ people should be treated with love and care, while maintaining and sharing our beliefs; the sermon describes this as responding with both “grace and truth.” ([06:03 from December 05, 2022]) ([58:22 from October 08, 2024])

Who leads the church, and how are leaders accountable?
South Side is led by a team of pastors/elders/overseers—terms the church uses for the same leadership role. The team includes both paid staff and lay members. Its responsibilities include shepherding and overseeing the church, and equipping members for ministry. ([03:05 from May 01, 2023]) ([06:19 from May 01, 2023]) ([48:10 from April 15, 2024])

Leaders are accountable to God for the people entrusted to their care, and are expected to meet biblical standards of character and spiritual maturity. The church also described a process in which members could nominate men for the leadership team. ([46:39 from April 15, 2024]) ([01:15:53 from May 01, 2023]) ([01:27 from May 01, 2023])

Teaching

Which recent sermons would help someone understand the teaching?
For understanding the teaching in the excerpts, these are good places to start:

- **“The Missing Piece”** (Feb. 1, 2015) is the clearest fit for the teaching on salvation: it explains that being good or religious does not save; Jesus says we must be born again. ([06:11 from June 14, 2021]) (https://www.southsidesbc.org/sermon-archive.html)
- **The Sermon on the Mount message on Matthew 6:1–4** is a good follow-up on motives in religious practice. It teaches that giving and other acts of righteousness should be for God, not to win people’s approval. ([33:12 from August 09, 2026])
- For a more recent resource on Christian growth, the website lists **“Foundational Elements of a Healthy Christian Life”** and **“Growing in Christlikeness: A Worldview for Christian Growth.”** (https://www.southsidesbc.org/sermons.html)

How does the church talk about sin, confession and forgiveness?
South Side Baptist Church describes sin as humanity’s selfish choice to ignore God’s design, bringing brokenness and separation from God. The church teaches that Jesus took sin’s penalty on the cross, and that forgiveness and restored relationship with God come through turning from sin and trusting in Jesus—not through good works or self-reform. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/gospel.html)

The church also describes confession as acknowledging sin and asking God to forgive us. In ongoing Christian life, confession means agreeing with God that a particular action is wrong, then turning from it toward God; it is more than naming sins without intending to change. We teach that believers can seek forgiveness and cleansing when they sin without needing to be saved again. ([22:37 from August 21, 2019]) ([24:13 from August 21, 2019])

The church emphasizes that God’s forgiveness is sufficient: through faith in Jesus, he forgives sin and does not hold believers’ past sins against them. Believers are encouraged to move forward rather than remain stuck dwelling on past mistakes. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/blog/productive-2017-step-two-forget-what-is-behind)

How does the teaching approach community and honesty with others?
We approach community as family: caring for one another, praying together, offering hospitality, and helping when someone is in need. We encourage people not to distance themselves at the first sign of difficulty, but to work through conflict with forgiveness and to pursue peace and unity. ([21:52 from February 14, 2022]) ([28:03 from February 14, 2022]) ([58:21 from May 19, 2025])

Honesty means being real about struggles instead of acting as if everything is fine. A church blog notes how easily we give an untruthful “How are you doing?” and describes missing a chance to be vulnerable; the sermon also models this by urging believers to confess and repent rather than pretend they have it all together. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/blog/previous/2) ([57:32 from July 03, 2023])

How does the church approach doubt and suffering?
South Side approaches doubt as something believers can bring honestly to God, and suffering as a real part of life—not proof that someone lacks faith. We encourage people in trials to ask God for wisdom and trust him even when they don’t understand what is happening. The church distinguishes that from doubt rooted in rejecting or blaming God. ([46:41 from March 01, 2021]) ([48:14 from March 01, 2021])

We teach that suffering is not always removed, and an unanswered prayer does not mean a person lacks faith; sometimes the answer is “no” or “wait.” Instead, believers can look to the hope of future restoration with God, which helps them persevere through present pain. ([46:42 from September 26, 2022]) ([49:51 from September 26, 2022])

We also encourage people not to be surprised by hardship, including hardship that comes with following Jesus. In difficult times, the church points to prayer, mutual love and encouragement, and serving others—even while suffering. ([32:32 from August 10, 2020]) ([01:03:41 from August 10, 2020])

How does the church approach faith and work?
South Side teaches that salvation is a gift of God’s grace received through faith, not something earned by good works. But genuine faith does produce visible change: it shapes how people live and leads to obedience, service, and sharing the Gospel. The church describes this as “faith that works, not faith in works.” (https://www.southsidesbc.org/blog/discipleship-101-faith-obedience)

Is an answer based on an official statement or an interpretation of sermons?
It depends on the claim. The church’s **Our Beliefs** page is an official statement of its beliefs. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/beliefs.html)

A conclusion drawn from a sermon is an interpretation of that sermon, unless the same point is also stated in the church’s official beliefs. For example, a sermon describes expository preaching as explaining the biblical text rather than reading personal ideas into it; that is sermon teaching, not by itself a separate official statement. ([24:12 from February 05, 2024])

Community

Which groups currently meet, and when?
Sunday Morning Connect Groups meet **9:30–10:15 a.m.** They include children’s groups (ages 0–PreK, K–3, and grades 4–6), a youth group (grades 7–12), and three adult groups, including a ladies’ group. The website also lists a First Friday Bible Study, but doesn’t give its meeting time; Discover South Side has no class currently happening. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/connect-groups.html)

Last updated on

Are there groups or introductory gatherings open to newcomers?
Yes. Sunday morning Connect Groups are open to anyone, for all ages and marital statuses—including people just beginning to explore Christianity. They meet 9:30–10:15 a.m.; greeters can help newcomers find a group or classroom. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/connect-groups.html)

For a more direct introduction to the church, **Discover South Side** covers the church’s beliefs, purpose, and ways to get involved. It’s offered two or three times a year as needed; there isn’t a class currently scheduled, but you can use the website contact form to ask about the next one. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/connect-groups.html)

Can someone join groups or volunteer before becoming a member?
Yes—**you can join a Connect Group before becoming a member**; a group leader specifically invited people who wanted to meet others and connect with God to come. ([01:17:37 from June 07, 2021])

**Volunteering depends on the role.** The church says youth volunteers must be members. For children’s ministry, volunteers go through a background check and read and sign the child-safety policy; the sermon doesn’t specify a membership requirement for those roles. (https://www.southsidesbc.org/faq-2.html) ([17:38 from May 02, 2020])

To ask about a specific volunteer role, you can mark your interest on a Connect Card or contact the children’s ministry directly. ([17:38 from May 02, 2020])
