Observing days and months and seasons and years without Christ as the center only feeds the loop. Worldly freedom promises relief and leaves emptiness; religious self-effort promises holiness and leaves despair. The gospel breaks both. The gospel’s cycle runs this way: Christ proclaimed, faith given, forgiveness granted, adoption received, freedom lived, and then that freedom speaks Christ again. So the church must reckon its identity: not slaves, but sons; not orphans, but heirs. Scripture, prayer, and the family of faith are not ladders to climb into favor. They are the Father’s ways of reminding sons and daughters who they already are. Justification, higher even than justification. Maybe your eyebrow raises and you go, what do you I don't know about that. Isn't justification the whole point? Justification is the core of the gospel. This is the cycle we're enslaved to apart from Christ. The law that leads to guilt, that leads to rules, that leads to failure, that leads to more law, more guilt, and never ending cycle.”

She was a prostitute in the city of Jericho, which was on the outer edge of the land of Canaan, and god's people were going into the land of Canaan to conquer it and expel the people. And sometimes I think we can forget that or we can think that, well, they were just there and they needed to get out, and that's why God sent them to do that. No. God said earlier in the scripture, he said, one of the reasons why he had them wait in Egypt was he said the the iniquity of the people of the land was not yet full. But when he brought them out and sent them into the land, their iniquity was full. And we can see from archaeological evidence, we can see from the scriptures that these were wicked people. There was dark demon worship that went on in that place. There was baby sacrifice in that place.
