#OpenCommunication

“Okay. So I think, without a doubt, one of the greatest compliments your kid can pay you, and give you is I can talk with my mom and dad about anything. Yes. And I don't know that ours always felt that way. Like, we're we're like everybody else. We kinda learned as we went. And, you know, sometimes when we heard what they did, we overreacted. And so they didn't always feel comfortable doing that. I think we got... As we got older, we started endeavoring to correct that.”

#JesusForgives

“And if you think you aren't good enough still, or maybe you've had a long walk with Jesus and you're battling that, you're not. You are not good enough. You will never be good enough. Jesus was good enough. Jesus is good enough. All of that work you're trying to do to better your life and better yourself, all of that shame and trauma that you're holding onto, the things you hate about yourself, all of those things Jesus died for and wiped clean. The things you've asked for forgiveness, scripture says he casts them as far as the east is from the west. He forgets your sin when you ask for forgiveness.”

#StayInYourCalling

“Peter's problem wasn't that he didn't know his assignment and what God had given him. It was that he was distracted by someone else's. And I think this is where many of us get caught up. We become so consumed with what's happening in somebody else's life that we lose sight of what is happening in our very own. And we lose sight of what Jesus is asking of us. Comparison does that to us. It's dangerous. It takes our eyes off of the one that we are supposed to be following. And it doesn't just change how we feel, it changes how we see. It changes how we see things and situations and circumstances. It messes with our perspective.”

#RunYourOwnRace

“And one of the things I hate doing the most with running, and I've you've... I've told you this before, that one of the things I hate doing the most with running is I hate running on a treadmill. And one of the biggest reasons why I hate running on a treadmill is because I put forth a lot of and I end up in the exact same place I was when I saw it, which is exactly what the enemy will do in your life with comparison, is you'll put forth a lot of trying to keep up with somebody else's race so you were never meant to run-in the first place.”

#RenewYourMind

“it changed the way I treated my wife. I responded to circumstances when there was conflict there. As a result, it changed our marriage. We have a great marriage now, and it works across the board. So you have to replace those thoughts, and the thoughts you replace them with are the thoughts that come from God's word. Transformation only happens as you renew your mind with God's word, as you change the way you think. Your life changes as your thinking changes. Change your thinking, you change your life. Come on.”

#BattleForYourMind

“It's the thoughts of God. So when you see the knowledge of God, he's referring to what God says about you in his word. So then it exalts itself against what God says about you in his word, And we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. So if you notice here, Paul is really sounding like a soldier that's in battle. And he's calling our attention to the fact that we're in a battle. And he tells us very specifically what the battle is. It's the battle for our minds. That's where the battleground is. The battleground is the battleground of your mind.”

#ChurchIsNotAboutMe

“Get it out of you. You will enjoy church so much. You will have way less opportunity to get offended if you come in and say, hey, this wasn't about me. That song's not about me. Doesn't matter if I don't like that one. That person talked to me that way. It's not about me today. I'm here to bring pray. Come on. And honor to the king of kings and the lord of lords. That's why I'm here.”

#PriestsNotConsumers

“The New Testament church, the New Testament paints a pretty clear picture that when we come to church, we are priests, not consumers. Consumers show up to get what they want. Priests show up to see what they can give God and others. Consumers walk into church with their Google and Yelp reviews. I know none of you do that. But priests walk into church with their sacrifices. Consumers offer God what they feel like giving, which is often leftovers. But priests bring their best to God, which is what he asked.”

#BodyOfChrist

“So what does that mean for the body of Christ? Because if the if the if Jesus formed the church, do you believe that? Yes, sir. If you don't, go read Acts. He formed the church. He filled it with the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, and he gave it a function. And I'm here to argue if it's the same filling, it's the same function. In other words, what was promised to them two thousand plus years ago is the same spirit that's promised to you and I today, whether you like it or not.”

#WillAndPowerBySpirit

“And then he gets involved in every aspect of your life. Philippians two thirteen, he is all the while at work within you. Why is he working in me? To cause me to both will and do of God's, a good pleasure. So he has to create within me the will, the desire to please God, and he also has to create the will or the the the the ability, the power to carry out what God is telling me to do. Amen? The will to forgive and then the power to forgive because how many know those are two different things? Yeah. The will to live right and then the power to live right. The will to get set free from drugs and alcohol, the power to get set free from those things. Amen? So that's what he does.”

#SitAtHisFeet

“Like, when's the last time you and I just sat at his feet? We had no agenda. We had no fix my problems. You were the Christ, son of the most high god. All that peace you're looking for is found in him, just so you know. It's not found in all your problems getting solved because there'll be another one tomorrow. It's founded sitting at his feet. That's the peace. That's the presence of the power of Jesus still today.”

“Christian life doesn't begin with knowing. It begins with credo. believe. I believe no matter what I'm facing. I believe this whole Christian life. I believe that's why I practice. I believe even when my heart is breaking, I put it into practice because I know my creator is gonna be pleased. I believe even when all circumstances are hell against me, I put it into practice because I know my God is working on my behalf. The modern church, this no, believe, then I might, if I have time, put it into practice. The early church would be like, what are you talking about?”

#WhoShapesYourFaith

“Everyone is being discipled. Everyone is being discipled. No one is neutral. Everyone is being discipled by someone. The only question is is who is shaping your beliefs? Is it culture? Is it politics? Is it entertainment? Is it social media? Or is it god through his word? And cultural creeds are really, I believe, shaping a lot of Christians' lives right now. Amen.”

#LordMeansMaster

“``And so the very fact that we say I receive you as Jesus and make you the lord of my life, they can just assume they've made him lord. But how many know just because you say he's lord doesn't make him lord? Amen? you know what lord means, don't you? Means master. Yeah. In other words, he's the one who calls the shots. In other words, he's the one who tells you how to live. Amen? Amen. Ain't nobody gonna tell me how to live. I know we can tell. Yeah. How many know God wants to tell you how to live? Not so he can dominate your life. He wants to tell you how to live because he knows how to live. Amen? And he knows how for you for you to live. He knows how to make things work in your life.”

#ArmorOfGod

“``And if you were designing armor of a soldier, you'd probably ask, what are they going to face? God didn't randomly choose six random pieces of armor. He designed them because he already knew what the enemy was gonna bring. So when Satan lies and distorts and twists, we know God gives us truth. When shame whispers, you're not enough, give up. God gives us righteousness. When fear and worry come, God gives us peace that stands firm. When doubt and distractions come, God gives us faith. When your identity is questioned, God reminds you of your salvation. When you don't know what to say or believe, God gives you his word.”

#WearTheArmorDaily

“``But it got me thinking, why in the world is it in my closet all year when I literally wear it twenty five days out of all the rest of the year? And then God convicted my heart. He's like, do you do that with the armor of God? Is do you hang it in your closet and you only pull it out for a special occasion? Is it hanging in the back of your closet and you pull it out when you're in a storm and you try to see if it still fits? Do you do you put it on regularly or is that just the holidays? Is that just when you really need it? So I sat with that for a moment and I would like for you to as well.”

“Every day when I see the scar on my chest, I'm reminded not only of what I've been through, but of the God who carried me through it. Yeah. What once looked like a huge ordeal has become a daily reminder that he works all things together for my good. Yeah. Proverbs four twenty three says, above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. God repaired my physical heart. But through this experience, he strengthened my spiritual heart. He declares the lame can walk and the blind can see. He calls the sinner forgiven and the forgotten redeemed. He paid a debt that he didn't know because I owed a debt I couldn't pay. #NeedJesusNow

“``I need Jesus in my life y'all, I need Jesus in my life and it's one of the greatest ways the devil keeps us trapped and in the same habitual sin patterns is by convincing us that we can do it ourselves. You know what changed me in my addiction? Was I stopped trying to fix it myself and I started saying, God, give me your strength. God, give me you father, I need your strength. We start to lead more like Jesus, and it takes effort to keep those arrows out, the whole point is is the goal of following Jesus isn't, you know, isn't just becoming a better version of ourselves. #JesusStandsForYou

“``So back to my question, why did Jesus stand? Here's my answer. He stood because advocates stand. He stood because faithfulness matters. He stood because love refuses to stay seated. The enemy knows your past, but Jesus knows your future. The accuser knows your failures, but Jesus knows his forgiveness. The world may throw stones, but heaven is already spoken. Please hear this. He stood because love doesn't stay seated when you're under attack. And the same Jesus, Stephen saw, he's not distant. He's not distracted. He's the same Jesus who stands for you.”

#CastDownStrongholds

“``And the Bible talks about mindsets. It just doesn't use the word. It talks about strongholds. And a stronghold is a negative mindset. A stronghold is a mindset that you've got that you've had for so long that it is literally a stronghold in your life. You see yourself this way. You think this way negatively about something, relationships, finances, whatever the case may be, And it is a stronghold that the enemy is using to keep you from living the life that God wants you to live. Amen? And the apostle Paul talks about casting down imaginations and every high thing that really the imaginations and the high things, the pretend pretensions are the things that make up the the stronghold. The thoughts, the reasoning, are what make up that stronghold in your life. And so he says you have to cast it down. Well, you can't cast it down if you don't know it's wrong, and you can't cast it down unless you've got something to replace it with. And what you replace it with is God's word. Amen?”

You absolutely do get to a point where you don't have to cultivate the lives of your children anymore, and it's when you're six feet under. Everybody say cultivate Cultivate. And keep. And keep. You know what the word keep means? It means to protect and guard. If this generation is guilty of anything, we're guilty of not protecting our homes, our marriages, and our children. And whatever, it says, after that storm comes, that man's house falls, and great is the fall of it. But the wise man, he trusts God, and he builds his house upon the rock, the rock of God's word. “The battle isn't out there with everyone else. It starts here. First Peter two one, Peter says, therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Peter starts with the heart. Not politics, not government, not persecution, which all of these would have been just as bad or worse than what we experience today. in the land, He starts with the soul, with our mind, our will, and our emotions. It is better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and drowned in the depths of the sea. What is he saying? #WeAreTheAggressors

Who's the aggressor? Here's the deal. What we want, the abundant life, is on the other side of whatever it is the enemy is using to hold us back right now. “That he took Jesus from his rightful throne in heaven, gave him, birthed him, blessed him, actually took him, placed him in Mary, blessed him with miracles, signs, and wonders. Look here. Broke him on a cross because of your sin and mine. This is the gospel. But then gave him to be the savior of the world. In our lives, this is how God works. In other words, we're not coming to church just for us. We're coming to church for each other. We're coming here to see who's here. And if you do need encouragement, to encourage you, if you did do need someone to love on you a little bit, we'd love on you. If you do need prayer, you got somebody who's praying for you so you walk out of here on Sunday ready to face the rest of the week. Amen? Amen. We're here for one another. Fill us with faith so we can respond and obey every bit of your word, even the parts we don't like, god. Fill us with faith to make room for you in our life, to allow you into every space. “And so Mary's journey to hope was faith. She went from fear, she chose faith, and it led her to hope. The common denominator in all of these hope guides is that something changed in their life when they decided to walk in the direction of hope.Zach was silenced to leave disappointment. Elizabeth chose courage to leave inadequacy.Joseph chose obedience to leave inconvenience. And Mary chose faith to overcome fear.”

#TrustGodInSetbacks

“``Be confident that God is working in the setback for your good. There's a verse in the New Testament. We quote a lot. We even sing it a lot. And we act like we believe it, but I don't know if we do. I know this. While we may say we believe it, I don't think we know it. And those are very different things.”

#ForgivenessIsAntidote

“``Forgiveness is not optional forgiveness is something that we are commanded to do by god it's a part of his plan for our life and our families forgiveness is forgiveness is actually a gift from god that he's given us to help us heal our human heart we are built to heal and forgiveness is the antidote an antidote is something that counteracts what's attacking it blocks it prevents and so forgiveness does that in our life and in our families it counteracts and it blocks and prevents what the enemy tries to do with unforgiveness.”

#DoYourPartForUnity

“You can pray all day long for unity. But if you're not willing to do your part and I'm not willing to do my part, I can't try to fight fair. And I'm going to show you that I can't try to fight fair and believe God for unity. I've got to do my part and I've got to learn to fight right and trust him to do his part of helping bring the unity to my family.”

#DivinePullVsWorldPull

“God, I can live the way you want me to live or I can live the way the world pulls me, which is what this series is about. And the pull of the world is so diabolically and different than the way God pulls us.”

#LiveByGodsWord

“So if all of a sudden what I believe is different than what the Bible believes, if Jesus is Lord of my life, if he's really, Lord of my life, come on, then I forsake what I believe and I embrace what his word says. Amen. And this now becomes what I believe. And I'm going to live by my life by, because that is truth. Come on. Not what I think is truth. Not what I feel is truth, but what God's word said is truth in my life. Amen.”

What happens during a typical service, and how long does it last?
A typical service lasts about an hour. We sing a few songs together and listen to a message from God’s Word. Everyone is welcome, and there’s no need to dress up. Kids’ services offer age-appropriate fun and structured learning. (https://thelc.church/i-m-new)

What is the worship format, and does it vary by service?
The usual format includes a congregational worship-and-singing portion at the start of the service, typically about 15–20 minutes, followed by the message. ([44:02 from June 13, 2021])

It can vary occasionally: one Sunday, the pastor said they started with a song and then adjusted the service to fit the message theme. He also noted that the planned order may shift if God leads them in a different direction. The sources don’t indicate that the services have different standard formats. ([24:59 from March 15, 2026]) ([00:26 from October 04, 2022])

Can someone attend while exploring Christianity or questioning their beliefs?
Yes. We welcome people who are still exploring and have questions; we teach that you don’t have to already believe to belong, and that church can be a place to learn about God. ([10:48 from August 13, 2023]) ([42:47 from December 06, 2020])

You’re also welcome to join Explore after a Sunday service to hear more about who we are, what we believe, and what to expect. (https://thelc.church/explore)

Where should a first-time visitor park, enter, and check in children?
Park near the **South Lobby/KidsLife entrance**—the website identifies it as the most convenient entrance for families. A COVID update also says to use the **main front lobby on the west side**, so check the church’s current entry instructions when you arrive. For children, go to the **first-time check-in station**; the KidsLife team will help you get started. (https://thelc.church/covid-19) (https://thelc.church/kids-life)

Kids & families

Do children need advance registration, and can visiting families participate?
For regular Sunday preschool/KidsLife, the information provided lists Sunday morning times but doesn’t say advance registration is required. (https://thelc.church/preschool)

Visiting families are welcome to participate in family events—the church invites families to bring their children to its Easter egg event. For Parents Night Out, though, the church asks families to sign up in advance so it can prepare. ([01:27:51 from March 21, 2022]) ([01:33:44 from February 28, 2022])

Beliefs

What are its stated core beliefs?
The church’s stated core beliefs are:

- **God:** There is one eternal God in three persons—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—creator of all things and perfect in character.
- **Revelation:** God has revealed himself through Jesus Christ, Scripture, and creation.
- **Mankind and the Fall:** Humans, male and female, were created in God’s image. Adam and Eve’s disobedience brought sin, separation from God, and brokenness to creation.
- **Salvation:** Jesus lived without sin, died for human sin, and was raised from the dead. By grace, eternal life is offered as a free gift to those who follow Christ by faith as Lord and Savior; salvation is found in Christ alone.
- **The Church:** The Church is Christ’s visible body, sent to glorify God and proclaim the gospel.
- **Resurrection and return:** Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead and bring the fullness of God’s kingdom on earth. (https://thelc.church/what-we-believe)

What roles can women hold in church leadership?
Women can teach and lead in virtually any ministry role, provided they meet the same biblical qualifications as men and submit to the church’s governing leaders, including the senior pastor. The church reserves the senior pastor position for men. ([11:03 from April 22, 2024])

Examples include teaching, leadership, prophecy, and public prayer; the church also points to Phoebe as a woman leader in ministry. ([19:10 from April 22, 2024]) ([35:41 from April 22, 2024]) ([34:01 from April 22, 2024])

What are its stated policies concerning LGBTQ people?
The church’s stated position is **not to affirm LGBTQ relationships or lifestyles, but also not to alienate LGBTQ people**. It presents its approach as “grace and truth”: being friends with LGBTQ people and welcoming them, while teaching that its understanding of the Bible does not affirm same-sex sexual relationships. ([23:36 from April 15, 2024]) ([26:56 from April 15, 2024])

On sexual ethics, the sermons describe homosexual sexual activity as sinful and call people to repentance, citing biblical passages about marriage and sexual conduct. They also say that this teaching applies alongside other kinds of sin, and that people who have sinned can be “washed” and changed through Jesus. ([36:49 from April 29, 2024]) ([38:23 from April 29, 2024]) ([39:59 from April 29, 2024])

The sermons discuss how to respond to people who identify with a gender different from their sex, but the supplied material does not set out a specific policy about participation, membership, leadership, or other church practices for LGBTQ people.

Who leads the church, and how are leaders accountable?
Jesus is the head of the church. The pastor is described as the leader of the local church, appointed by Christ to equip people for service and build up the church. ([53:03 from September 28, 2026]) ([01:07:54 from May 01, 2023])

Leaders are accountable to God: their work is to watch over people’s souls. The church also teaches that members should follow their leaders as they follow Christ. ([43:07 from April 14, 2025])

Teaching

Which recent sermons would help someone understand the teaching?
If you mean the teaching in the sermon excerpts, **Cross = Love** is the clearest starting point: it explains how the cross and resurrection relate to salvation and why the resurrection matters for believers’ lives. ([47:33 from April 18, 2022]; [49:05 from April 18, 2022]) (https://thelc.church/media/page/13/)

For practical application, try **Practical Christianity**—it is described as covering basic things that help people live a successful Christian life. ([44:26 from April 18, 2022]) (https://thelc.church/media/page/13/)

For teaching on purpose, **Purpose Over Preference** may be a helpful companion. The purpose-focused sermon excerpt discusses living with the aim of decreasing so Christ can increase, and finding purpose even in painful seasons. ([49:26 from May 11, 2026]; [50:24 from May 11, 2026]) (https://thelc.church/media/page/13/)

How does the church talk about sin, confession and forgiveness?
We talk about sin as “missing the mark”: everyone sins, and sin separates people from God. We trace it to humanity’s disobedience and teach that Jesus, who lived without sin, died to pay sin’s penalty and reconcile us to God. Salvation is offered by grace through faith in Christ. ( [11:47 from April 10, 2024]) (https://thelc.church/what-we-believe)

We encourage people to face sin honestly, confess it to God, and turn from it toward God. Confession isn’t about earning salvation; we teach that God is faithful to forgive and cleanse those who confess. Repentance means turning back to God, and can include making practical changes to leave a pattern of sin behind. ([18:51 from April 10, 2024]) ([50:56 from August 14, 2023]) ([55:45 from August 14, 2023])

We also encourage confession and prayer with a trusted fellow believer, while noting that people don’t need to disclose personal struggles to everyone. We connect this kind of support with healing and encouragement. ([34:42 from May 19, 2025])

Forgiveness is presented both as God’s gift to us and as something we’re called to extend to others. We teach that forgiving someone can be difficult and may be a process, but choosing forgiveness by faith can help free us from bitterness and resentment. ([01:06:21 from September 27, 2021]) The church’s “Fresh Start” prayer invites people to ask God to forgive their sin, cleanse them, make them new, and help them live for Him. (https://thelc.church/fresh-start)

How does the teaching approach community and honesty with others?
We approach community as something people build through commitment, time, effort, and continuing to show up for one another—not something they simply find. We encourage people to invest in relationships where they can be honest and supported. ([33:37 from August 28, 2019])

We also teach that healthy community makes room for authenticity and accountability: having trusted people with whom you can take off the mask, share what you’re really experiencing, and receive both encouragement and challenge. In the context of seeking freedom from harmful patterns, we encourage confession and connection with a safe group, such as a Life Group. ([30:02 from August 19, 2024]) ([23:12 from August 19, 2024])

Honesty with others means addressing conflict directly and calmly—saying what is going on inside rather than avoiding the issue—while listening carefully, guarding our words, and treating the other person with honor. ([01:06]) We also call for integrity: not speaking one way to someone’s face and another way behind their back, and extending grace by considering that others may be struggling or trying harder than we realize. ([19:50 from November 16, 2025]) ([22:16 from November 16, 2025])

How does the church approach doubt and suffering?
At our church, doubt is not treated as something that must be hidden: hard questions are acknowledged, and we recognize that some may not have answers this side of heaven. We encourage people to bring those questions to God and let them draw them closer to him, trusting in his love even when they cannot understand what is happening. ([36:04 from November 06, 2023]) ([37:45 from November 06, 2023])

We also acknowledge that suffering is real; faith does not guarantee a life without pain. We point to Jesus, who experienced deep sorrow himself, and encourage people who are hurting to know they are not alone. ([34:17 from November 06, 2023]) ([22:14 from September 08, 2019]) In difficult seasons, we encourage prayer, support from others, and hope in God’s eventual restoration—while making room to say “I’m sorry you’re hurting,” rather than minimizing someone’s pain. ([32:28 from August 10, 2019]) ([34:17 from November 06, 2023])

How does the church approach faith and work?
Life Church treats faith as something put into practice: we pray in dependence on God, while working diligently and serving others. The church describes this as “pray like it depends on God and work like it depends on us,” and connects work with helping people meet Jesus. (https://thelc.church/vision-vibe)

We teach that faith is active, not passive: it responds through obedience, trust, risk, and generosity. In practice, that means taking what we hear beyond church and living it out. ([22:06 from September 07, 2025]) The church also sees people’s gifts and talents as ways to contribute and serve in the church and community. (https://thelc.church/vision-vibe) ([05:00 from April 07, 2025])

Is an answer based on an official statement or an interpretation of sermons?
It depends on which source the answer uses: the church website provides official statements of belief, while conclusions drawn from sermon examples are interpretations of the church’s preached teaching.

For example, the website explicitly states that Scripture is inspired by God and that salvation is through Jesus. (https://thelc.church/vision-vibe)

A more specific position expressed in a sermon—such as how the church should respond to a particular cultural issue—is sermon teaching, not an official statement on the website. For instance, a sermon describes the church’s response as holding grace and truth together and welcoming people while speaking truth. ([23:36 from April 15, 2024])
