#LoveLikeJesus

“Will we be the lighthouse for God or not? we be the one that shows the love for one another? Not just love for one another, but love for one another the way Jesus loved us. Meaning everybody's welcome at the foot of the cross. Mean that if they screw up, understand that you screw up and I screw up and love them the way Jesus loved us through that screw up.”

#GreatCommission

“You see, there's one way. One Jesus, one mission. Not 42,000 missions. There's one. That's seeing people come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and savior. Can I get an amen? That's then discipling him in his ways so people will know the problem with people that get saved and prayer prayer and get saved is that we get them to pray a prayer, baptize them, and get them saved. But then once they're saved, we just leave them there. And honey, if we're doing that, we're not fulfilling the great commission. You won't know not to do something because you've never been taught.”

#FollowJesus

“Is this time to take a deep breath, look into God's face, and say, right, we're ready for a new challenge. For every one of us to be willing to say, yes, Jesus. I will follow you. I don't just believe in you. I'll follow you to become a disciple who makes disciples. Because Jesus, you know what? There are 8,400,000,000 people in this world, and every one of them needs to know you. And I wanna play the part you want me to play to ensure that those in my world can be reached.”

#KeepYourEyesOnJesus

“When Peter's attention became divided, his faith collapsed. soon as you start taking your eyes off of Jesus, because of filling the blank, your pride, your arrogance, whatever it is, as soon as you get distracted by the world or the wrong friends, as soon as you start self relying again, you start to sink. sink everywhere. You sink in your heart, you sink in your mind, you sink you sink in how you speak to yourself and how you speak to others. You're no longer speaking life unto yourself because you're sinking in your relationships.”

#ArmorOfGod

“Lord, I'm putting on the helmet of salvation. Lord, I'm putting on the plate of righteousness. Lord, I'm putting on the belt of truth. Lord, I'm shodding my feet with the preparation of the gospel. Come on. Lord, I'm picking up the sword. Because it's on here too. I'm picking up the sword. Lord, you've gotta go before me. Give me boldness to be able to proclaim your gospel, your truth, your grace, your mercy. hide me behind the cross of Calvary. May they not see me, but may they see you.”

#LivingSacrifice

“God is telling us that we need to be a living sacrifice. What does that mean to us today? That means that we need to come to the altar. And we need to say, God, here I am. My everyday life I give to you. Help me to raise my children. Help me to be a better mother, father. Help me to be a better helpmate to my mate, to my husband, or to my wife. Help me to be the aunt and the uncle, the brother, the sister. Father, help me to be the church member I need to be for the body of Christ. Use everything about me that you get the glory. Everything about my life that you get the glory.”

#BiblicalSelfReflection

“The only way you can do it and wanna walk with God as part of the royal priesthood, you cannot use the bible as a weapon to get what you want or a weapon to make people hurt that you want them to hurt. But you've got to love the word of God, and you've got to draw a circle around yourself and do a sober self assessment. And that's you being honest with God just between you and God and saying, Lord, here I am. All my mess up, everything that I am, here I am. I know that only you can straighten it out.”

#RenewMindBeHoly

“The human nature and say, Lord, I know that I'm saved. I'm born again. Amen? You're you are deposited. You have sealed me until the day of redemption. asking for your help. Come on, talking to God and admitting where we fail and asking him, that's the way we lay it aside. We have to start by taking the word into our minds, by reading it, by renewing our hearts. It goes from the mind to the heart, and then it comes out in conversation. And that's what God says when he says, be holy for I am holy. What are your actions? What are your conversation? Is it holy? Or can they hear you talking about everybody else under the sun?”

#BeyondSalvation

“Here it is. He's telling us. Peter's telling us here. He's saying, look, therefore, what happened before? Go back to that. Preparing your mind for action. We need to prepare our mind for the very action of being and then it says, being what? Preparing being sober minded. Now that doesn't mean that's the difference between drunk. Come on. Some people get so drunk on religion. They start acting crazy. They think, well, you know, I've made it. And this has been the problem in the Baptist church for a long time is that we get saved, pastor Angelo. They get saved, they get baptized, and then we leave them right there. They think they've got they've hey, I've accomplished all I need to accomplish. No, you haven't. That's just the beginning. That's salvation. That is that vertical line of justification. You are justified with God through the blood of Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross. Your sin debt, my sin debt has been paid in full. But don't stop there in the doorway of the house of God. You need to get on in and walk in and see the pleasures that he has for you today as a child, his child.”

#VerticalPeace

“And see that crucifix, they did what they needed to do so we could stand up here doing what we're doing today. It all works in harmony together. The vertical beam must be driven into the ground first, so too with peace, it must be made vertically before it can be extended horizontally to everybody else. You gotta have that peace with god.”

#VerticalFaithFirst

“But I'm gonna tell you what, if you understand how God the father loves you and sent his son, Jesus Christ, to take your place on the cross. And when you understand that and when you believe that with your whole heart, and you'll start walking in the faith that you have, amen, instead of struggling in the faith. When you start really walking under the power of the Holy Spirit, and you get in line, that vertical line is right, then you can go horizontal. But you can't go horizontal and reach out to other people for Christ until you get the vertical line just right. Problem is we wanna we wanna work on the horizontal and talk about everybody else. But we don't wanna get the vertical right. If conviction is gonna come to people around us, it's gonna come not because we're being God's policeman, but because we're living the way God would have us live.”

#HopeForTheLost

“We are here as a mass unit for the lost world out there. We are here to be able to say that in Luke chapter 15, the prodigal son is real, and God is a god of a hundredth of or or a million chance. Amen. Amen? He is not a god that says you three strikes and you're out. This is not baseball, baby. We're dealing with Christianity. We're dealing with where we as a church, the body of Christ as a whole, ought to give hope to everyone. The vilest sinner on earth ought to be able to walk into a Christian church. Yes, they make me convicted, but they ought to find hope in that conviction. Come on. Amen? And I'm a firm believer in that.”

#TalkToTheMountain

“``God wants to give us all freedom from every sin because he's paid it in full, but we, the children of God, have got to do it his way by going to him and naming it. You know, the bible says over Jesus said over, if there was a mountain in the way, what did he say? Talk to the mountain. Talk it to the mountain. It's not gonna move until you talk to that mountain. Don't talk to everybody else about it. Talk to the mountain. Amen? Amen. And so we need to go to in our prayer closets, and we need to get along with our God, and we need to name the sin. So we can be set free from it. Whether that's looking at porn, whether that's drinking too much, whether that's maybe drinking too many sodas. I don't know. Drinking too much. Whatever it is, if god if it gets between you and god, it's sin. Amen?”

#YouAreChosen

“But I'm telling you church, Jesus stands here today at the gates of Hades with you. In the shadow of every false god, in the face of every lie, he stands there and he says, you are chosen. You are forgiven. You are beloved, and you are his. You are someone that he can build his church upon to go out and be the disciples until every tribe and tongue has heard. And the gates of Hades will not prevail against you.”

#ForgivenAndFree

“``Beloved, if you understand the god that we have, we have a god that wants to forgive us, that died that sent his son to die on the cross to forgive us. You no longer have to be in the jail of that bondage any longer, That unforgiving spirit, that bitterness, you need to be freed from that by the blood of Jesus Christ. You need to let it go. It could be a child that has hurt you. It could be a parent that has hurt you. It could be a friend that has hurt you. Because a lot of stuff that we think in our mind is not even true.”

Put your nose back where it belongs going forward and look and with your spiritual eyes wide open and see the needs of the people around you and start serving them. Because when you do that, you serve others. It's an act of love. Amen? The Christ like love that shows through us. Amen? Now that doesn't mean to be a sucker.”

#FaithWhenShaken

“``Have you ever been going through life? And it seems like everything that you knew, the bottom dropped out? It could be money issue. It could be a a child. It could be going through different things in life with a spouse, other family, stuff that you were not even aware of, and it you started and got up one day and everything was fine and then seven days later, you didn't even know your life. Has that ever happened to you? Amen. Have you ever been to where your tree was shaken? Amen? And it shook your faith. It shook you if we're honest, that kind of stuff can shake our faith. Some even quit. And I wanna tell you today, there's no reason to quit. We have somebody that's in control. Amen? Amen. Even when we're not.”

#RunToTheFather

“The father loves us. If you do but you don't know what I've done. No, but he does and he still loves you. You go back over to Luke chapter 15, the same god that rent the daddy. That pictures the father running after us when he sees us afar off. When we change our mind and we'll repent and we'll come to him and we'll allow him, he comes running after us. It's not what you've done. It's all about he's already forgiven us, and will you walk in that and accept that? You say, but, preacher, you don't know what I've done. Honey, he does. And he says he still loves you and still sent his son to die on the cross for you and you alone. Amen?”

#FaithInAction

“``See, if you're gonna live a testimony for Christ, you've gotta make a difference. Making a difference is we've gotta do our part and believe by faith that if we if we get in the word of god, god's gonna use us. Let me tell you something. There are people under the sound of my voice today. God wants to use you in a mighty way. It's ordinary people walking in a ordinary life that's gonna change the world around us for Christ. Stop looking for the big moments. Stop looking for the spotlight, and start living your life in such a way understanding that you wanna be connected to the holy spirit for when he shows you an opportunity that you act and speak Christ into somebody's life.”

#BewareSelfRighteousness

“The younger brother was lost in rebellion. The older brother is lost in religion. The younger brother broke the father's rules. The older brother missed the father's heart. That this is was Jesus' direct challenge to the pharisees who criticized him for welcoming sinners in. Right? So the danger of self righteousness is that it often hides behind that outward mortality. Right? Jesus warned in Luke eighteen nineteen nine through 14, I'm not gonna read it, through the parable of the Pharisees and the tax collector that pride can just be just as destructive as open rebellion.”

#ProtectTheSpirit

“That keeps the spirit from moving and we all need to we all I need to do my part as an individual. You need to do your part. We need to draw circles around ourselves and we need to ask ourselves if there's anything that we do quench the spirit. And if it does, simply ask the lord to forgive you and don't do it. Can I get an amen? One heart, one soul, sharing everything that they had. We can do that too if we'll come together. Can I get an amen? We need to understand that we are in a time today where people are hurting. Amen? Amen? And we need to be that church that says we have the answers. His name is Jesus. Amen.”

#TrainLeaders

These people that wanna come in here and be Sunday morning quarterbacks and they wanna hit me on Sunday, and then on Monday, they wanna call me and tell me or go on Facebook and say how bad all life is. The reason it's bad is because you're not in the book and you've not done any training because I'm gonna tell you something. #WorshipWithRightAttitude

“``Hey, if you're not getting anything out of the worship or the preaching, you're coming into the sanctuary with the wrong attitude. You are just as important as the person that's holding the mic and singing and a man that's streaming the guitar. You've gotta come in with the right attitude to praise God. And when you do and understand what Jesus has done for you and you start raising your hands, it's good to holler amen. Holler hallelujah. Amen? Ain't nothing wrong with that. You ought to get a little excited because I'm gonna tell you something. If you were down there in Revelation in that class, you're gonna understand. “See, the world offers us a counterfeit kingdom. The world offers us a counterfeit kingdom that is built on desire, built on image, and pride. But John tells us in verse 17 here that the world is passing away. Underline that. Circle it. The world is passing away. Everything that you long for, everything that you gain. #BetOnJesus

“This belief, by the way, is not just a minor, oh, I believe we're gonna go out to eat tonight. What do you think, Sarah? It's not a casual belief. It's the idea of a gambler putting everything he has in on this hand. There is no second chance. There is no other option. Every single thing he has is bet on this. That is belief. Some of us are living by thoughts, evil thoughts that we've had about people for so long and not took them captive and have allowed them to dictate our faith. She didn't use as an excuse of not to do. Come on. Amen. So my thing is to you today in all love and compassion is what is your excuse for not doing anything? Jesus had a decision that he could have made. He could have made that Good Friday. He could have called a bunch of angels to come down, but instead he did what his father had called to them. You have this thing in your brain that says, maybe I need to then you haven't committed the unpardonable sin. So the fact that a person feels remorse proves that blasphemy against the holy spirit has not yet been committed. So this is what Jesus is doing. He was warning us not to not to reject truth but and not to abandon your faith. Don't reject truth. Don't abandon your faith regardless what happens. Okay? This is what will save you. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. John 3, 16. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son. You can say it with me because you know it. That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Do children need advance registration, and can visiting families participate?
Visiting families are welcome. For Calvary Kids, the website describes registering your child with a volunteer on your first visit at the orange doors, so it doesn’t indicate that advance registration is required. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/calvarykids)

For nursery and preschool (Calvary Clubhouse), the site provides a registration form but doesn’t say whether it must be completed in advance. Clubhouse is available during the 10:50 a.m. Sunday service. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/clubhouse)

Beliefs

What denomination or network does the church belong to?
Calvary Virginia Beach doesn’t identify a denomination or network on its website. It describes the local church as autonomous and free from external organizational control, suggesting it is independent (non-denominational). (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-church)

What are its stated core beliefs?
Calvary Virginia Beach’s stated core beliefs are:

- **Jesus Christ:** Jesus is central to everything and the only one who can reconcile people to God. He lived without sin, died in humanity’s place, rose again, and will return.
- **The Trinity:** There is one eternal God—Creator of all things—who exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- **The Bible:** The Bible is God’s Word, accurate, authoritative, and applicable to everyday life.
- **Sin and separation:** Sin separates people from God and His purpose for their lives.
- **Reconciliation and salvation:** Forgiveness and a new beginning with God come through repentance, faith in Jesus, and commitment to His will.
- **The Church:** The Church is significant, and believers should meet together regularly. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/beliefs)

The church also states that the Bible is inerrant and infallible, salvation is by grace through faith rather than human works, Jesus is God in human flesh and the Church’s head, and ministry depends on the Holy Spirit. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/beliefs-1)

How does it practice baptism and communion, and who can participate?
Calvary Virginia Beach practices **believer’s baptism by immersion**: it is a believer’s public testimony, symbolizing faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, new life in Him, and identification with the visible church. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-church)

The church observes the **Lord’s Supper** to remember and proclaim Jesus’ death until He returns. It teaches that participants should first examine themselves, and describes the Supper as fellowship with the risen Christ and His people. The website does not specify a more detailed eligibility rule, such as a membership requirement. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-church)

What roles can women hold in church leadership?
Women can serve as pastors and other church leaders: one sermon explicitly refers to “Pastor Pam” alongside other pastors and leaders. It also describes women speaking to women and men as part of ministry. ([53:11 from June 26, 2023]) ([49:38 from June 26, 2023])

The church website identifies elders/pastors and deacons as church offices, but does not specify whether women may hold each office. A sermon describes the seven people chosen in Acts 6 as men; it does not state that this example sets a blanket rule for every deacon role. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-church) ([50:32 from May 31, 2026])

What are its stated policies concerning LGBTQ people?
The provided materials do not state an explicit policy about LGBTQ people—for example, on membership, leadership, or same-sex relationships. The church website does teach that believers should pursue holiness and separate from sinful practices, but it does not identify LGBTQ people or specify how that teaching applies to them. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/man)

A sermon discusses marriage in terms of a man and a woman and describes marriage as a God-ordained covenant, but it does not directly address LGBTQ people or set out a specific policy concerning them. ([23:18 from October 24, 2024]) ([24:57 from October 24, 2024])

Who leads the church, and how are leaders accountable?
Christ is the church’s supreme authority and head. Elders—also called pastors or bishops—and deacons serve under Him; they must meet biblical qualifications, and the congregation is called to submit to their leadership. The local church is self-governing, with its elders responsible for applying Scripture to matters such as policy and discipline. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-church)

We also teach that pastors, leaders, and teachers will give an account to God for their responsibility. Deacons are described as providing counsel to the pastor, rather than leaving one leader to control every part of the church. ([01:46:04 from June 10, 2024]) ([41:45 from May 31, 2026])

Teaching

Which recent sermons would help someone understand the teaching?
These recent sermons would be helpful:

- **A message on God shaping believers and their response to Him** explores yielding to God through life’s circumstances and trusting Him to form and use His people. ([01:11:29 from September 30, 2024])
- **A message on Christian hope and witness** connects salvation through Jesus with sharing faith through everyday actions and treating others with Christlike love. ([01:14:09 from February 02, 2026])
- **“What are you setting yourself up for?”** considers spiritual growth, serving others, and moving from participating to helping others grow as disciples. ([46:22 from September 14, 2026])
- **A message on welcome, reconciliation, and the gospel** emphasizes that all people need Jesus and invites listeners to trust Him for eternal life. ([01:16:08 from August 31, 2026])
- **The Christmas-season message on Mary** studies the announcement of Jesus’ birth in Luke 1 and would help someone explore the church’s teaching about Jesus. ([47:56 from November 16, 2025])

How does the church talk about sin, confession and forgiveness?
Calvary Virginia Beach describes sin as both humanity’s inherited condition and a matter of personal choice: all people sin, and sin brings spiritual and physical death and leaves people unable to restore themselves apart from God’s grace. The church teaches that salvation is God’s gift through Jesus Christ, not something earned by good works; believers are then called to grow in holiness, while recognizing that the struggle against sin continues in this life. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/man)

For becoming a Christian, the church calls people to repent of sin, confess Jesus as Lord, and believe in his death and resurrection. It says those who believe in Christ can receive forgiveness and eternal life. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/how-may-i-become-a-christian)

We also emphasize honestly naming sin to God and turning away from it. The church teaches that God is faithful to forgive and cleanse those who confess, and that forgiveness rests on Christ’s work—not on our own merit. ( [01:17:56 from August 10, 2026] ) ( [36:40 from August 13, 2020] ) The sermons also encourage apologizing to someone when you have wronged them. ( [01:20:30 from April 26, 2026] )

How does the teaching approach community and honesty with others?
We teach that Christian growth happens in community, not isolation: relationships can support one another through sorrow and joy, and help us notice blind spots we may not see on our own. ([44:39 from July 25, 2024])

Honesty means being willing to let others see our real struggles, rather than hiding them. In authentic relationships, we can encourage one another and lovingly point out where our actions need to change. ([51:00 from July 25, 2024]) Accountability is meant to restore and guide one another back toward Christ—not to condemn or control. ([56:41 from October 10, 2024])

The teaching also uses Ananias and Sapphira as an example of why openness matters: the issue was not that they kept some of the money, but that they lied about it. The point is to be truthful rather than pretend to be more generous or holy than we are. ([59:45 from October 10, 2024])

How does the church approach doubt and suffering?
The church approaches doubt with reassurance from Scripture and an invitation to turn toward Christ, not to hide the questions. We point doubting believers to the promise that nothing can separate them from God’s love in Christ, and to Jesus’ response to Thomas: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The sermon also invites people unsure of their faith to seek help and surrender their lives to Jesus. ([34:58 from November 09, 2025]) ([37:07 from November 09, 2025])

We treat suffering as real and painful, rather than something to dismiss or judge. We encourage people to seek God through prayer and Scripture, trusting that the Holy Spirit helps even when they cannot find words. The church teaches that trials may strengthen faith and endurance, while emphasizing God’s comfort and presence through hardship. ([34:24 from March 06, 2025]) ([46:05 from February 06, 2025]) We also pray for the sick and suffering, trusting God to answer according to His will. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-church)

The church offers hope beyond present suffering in Christ’s victory over death and the promise of resurrection and renewal. It encourages believers to hold on to that hope while allowing God to comfort them in the midst of grief. ([44:30 from February 06, 2025]) ([49:12 from February 06, 2025])

How does the church approach faith and work?
The church distinguishes **being saved by faith** from **living out faith through work**: salvation is God’s gift, not something earned by human effort, while believers are called to serve and do good work for God’s glory. The church teaches that every Christian is called to ministry and should use their God-given gifts to build up the church and serve Christ in the world. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/beliefs-1) (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-church)

That faith should shape ordinary working life, too. We emphasize being a visible witness to Jesus at one’s job, and putting faith into action through practical help for others. ([01:10:31 from June 21, 2026]) ([01:15:43 from June 21, 2026]) Work should also be done justly: the church’s teaching warns against withholding workers’ wages and treats that as contrary to loving one’s neighbor. ([35:10 from May 06, 2021])

Is an answer based on an official statement or an interpretation of sermons?
It depends on the claim: if it comes from the church’s “We teach” beliefs pages, it is an official statement; if it is inferred from a sermon, it should be described as an interpretation of that sermon. For example, the church formally states its beliefs about Scripture and salvation on its website. (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/the-holy-scriptures) (https://calvaryvirginiabeach.church/man)

In a sermon, Pastor Bubba explains the church’s practice of folding communion linens as a sign connected to Jesus’ return; that is a sermon explanation, not a statement from the cited beliefs pages. ([01:12:46 from August 17, 2026])
