Power to Walk This New Life In Christ

Matthew 4 puts Jesus right in the wilderness, led by the Spirit and tempted by the devil after forty days and forty nights of fasting. Jesus is hungry in real human flesh, but Jesus does not let hunger, pressure, or Satan’s “if thou be the Son of God” talk set the terms. The child of God is called an overcomer, not a professional victim.

Trusting God’s will also means not trying to help God out like He is too busy. Proverbs says to acknowledge Him in all ways, and He shall direct the paths. David stood before Goliath with no confidence in his own ability, but with confidence in the Lord of hosts. Isaiah says those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength and mount up with wings like eagles, and that is the walk the world ought to see.

Prayer becomes a must for staying resilient. Jesus prayed in Gethsemane when His soul was sorrowful unto death, while the disciples slept and later scattered. Prayer gives strength, clarity, and spiritual eyesight. Prayer is not vain repetition, but persistent crying out to the heavenly Father from a spiritual heart.

Serving others also builds resilience, because self-pity loses its grip when eyes open to the needs around. Jesus washed feet, fed multitudes when resources looked limited, and came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and give His life a ransom for many. The church is called to be a safe harbor, a place where broken people can come to the foot of the cross, stay under the Word of God, and be changed by the Holy Spirit, not by religious police work.

Faith is the foundation of resiliency. Jesus asleep in the storm shows that the winds and sea obey Him because He is God. Mustard seed faith speaks to the mountain, not because the believer is strong, but because Christ is trusted. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and the call is to make room for the Word until fear gives way to obedience.
