Types of churches in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs Military-Friendly Churches

With Fort Carson, Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases, and the U.S. Air Force Academy nearby, many congregations tailor ministries for active-duty members, veterans, and their families. Expect flexible service times, deployment and PCS support groups, and programs near Fountain, Security-Widefield, and Northgate that accommodate rotating duty schedules.

Contemporary Non-Denominational

Large, modern congregations cluster along the Powers corridor, Briargate, and Northgate, featuring band-led worship, practical Bible teaching, and extensive kids and student ministries. They often draw UCCS students and young families from fast-growing neighborhoods like Banning Lewis Ranch and Wolf Ranch, with multiple service options and strong small-group networks.

Historic & Liturgical

In Downtown and Old Colorado City, historic sanctuaries host traditional liturgy, choir or organ music, and reverent worship in century-old spaces. These congregations resonate with residents who appreciate architectural heritage and a steady rhythm of the church calendar, often connected to the arts scene near Colorado College and Tejon Street.

Colorado Springs Spanish-Language Churches

Bilingual and Spanish-only congregations serve families in Southeast Colorado Springs, Knob Hill, and along South Academy Boulevard. Services blend Spanish-language worship with community resources, from ESL classes to family assistance, creating a strong cultural hub for Latino households across the city.

#LoveLooksMessy
“``Sometimes love looks like this. Sometimes love looks messy, awkward, uncomfortable. Sometimes it looks like Jesus taking a towel and washing our feet, not because we like it or because it feels good, but because we need it. Before it's about anything else, this passage reminds us that unless we let God love us to wholeness first, we'll never be able to love others to wholeness ourselves. So don't you dare turn away. Sometimes love looks like letting somebody else serve”

#SpiritEquipsYou
“``And also the new covenant is saying, you have the spiritual resources of wisdom, of knowledge, of power, of gifts. I believe that's the double portion that we get to look at Elisha's humble and courageous request and bring that request to God for every area of our lives. The holy spirit wants to equip us in all of those areas from being new parents. This is the new parent corner of our church over here. Right? That's good. there's is there other corners? I don't new parents and all of you.”

#LiveWhatYouBelieve
“Calling ourselves Christians is not enough. Going to church is not enough. Knowing the gospel intellectually is not enough. If that's all we have, we will share it only in comfortable spaces and like the Christian college kids in the story I opened with, we will refuse to step out of our comfort zones to share it with people like pastor Neville. We have to actually believe it. Paul says when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation and believed, We have to live like we believe it. Like we believe that it is powerful enough to save anyone. We have to live like we believe that it is powerful enough to save anyone.”

#AnchorToGod
“And John realizes what's happening. He sees the danger in the culture, and so he writes a letter about this. And he says, look. Here's the deal. You're gonna be pressured to constantly change what you think is right or wrong. You're you're constantly gonna chase a moving target for what is truth. You're constantly gonna be here and there if you try to chase after what this world thinks is good or evil, whatever it may be. But that's not gonna work. So he says, here's what you need to do instead. You need to have fellowship with God because God is immovable. What's for God, what's truth today, you know, for certain, it's gonna be true tomorrow and next week and so forth. He never changes. He's the same yesterday, today, and forever. And so what John is trying to tell the people is we need to anchor ourselves to God.”

“Where I'm challenged with this text the most is, it's hard to listen to God when all you hear is yourself. And so many times because we make the many requests we make, all we hear is ourselves. But I come to share with you church, I'm grateful for isolation. Those are those moments where I can get in my prayer closet. I can get in my car and take a long ride, raise the windows up, cut the radio off, put my phone on do not disturb, and it'd be just me and the Lord. Go in my man cave, close the door, and just pray. Don't be afraid of isolation because isolation allows you to go one on one with God, watch this, so that you can do it his way and not your way.”

“``Recognize that the power of the disciple is not found in the disciple. The power of the disciple is found in our proximity to God. The closer we are to God and the reminder that God has not left us, so we need to run to him. He is near to us and we must run to him. That's where the power to live as God has called us to live. The power to overcome temptations and fears and struggles and anxiety and doubt all rest in the one who has the power to create everything from nothing.”

“It's messy. It's messy. And then we have daily actual lives, and and god really does show up daily, and we see him at work. He's purifying us, and he's not leaving us alone, but messing with our attitudes and our habits and making us into his image. And when we bump into each other and we throw each other off balance and we stumble. And we thought we were safe in the company of God's people. So we go off on Turon to cultivate our pure spirituality away from those hypocrites down at the church. But eventually, if we're honest and reading our Bibles and praying honestly, we find out we can't do it. We can't do it on our own. like David, we can't survive in the wilderness on our own. We really do need each other.”

“``So beloved, I just want you to notice here some very foundational truths Jesus gives about marriage. Here's the first truth, that marriage is God's good design. He invented it, he came up with it, it is from the beginning, and marriage is also his doing. It's not the pastor officiating the wedding, it's not the state who hands you the license, what God has joined together and therefore, God is the one who gets to define it. Not me, not you, not the supreme court, God gets to define marriage. And here's how he defines it. He says that marriage, by his design, is meant to be between one man and one woman for life.”

“God promised us that no weapon formed against us will prosper, but it's not licensed to just go pick a fight. He doesn't promise to deliver us from conflict. He does promise to deliver us through it. And so the question I have for you is, is there battle in front of you this morning? Is there a conflict in front of you that you don't see a way out? In the midst of that, what are you afraid of? God is still on his throne. And if we believe that, we truly believe that, we don't have to be afraid to do what he asks us to do because he will make a way through. Will you trust him and obey him? Because he will lead you through it.”

“We see that this beautiful, united, perfect, painless, free of injustice and suffering, we see that this world is coming, and Jesus tells us to pray, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So what do we do with this? Friends, if Revelation 21 is where we're headed and your kingdom come is a prayer that pulls a future reality into our present. How we live today is not incidental. It's not waiting for God to finally show up and do his thing because God has already shown up, and he has done his thing, and his thing is you. All across the city, churches are meeting, people are worshiping and praising. All across the globe, people are meeting and worshiping, and God has called all of us together. That until his dwelling can be made with us fully, he sends his spirit to fill each one of us so that we can bring God's presence into the world.”

Why Colorado Springs churches are unique

With multiple military installations—from Fort Carson to Peterson Space Force Base and the U.S. Air Force Academy—the city has a high number of active-duty families and veterans, and Colorado Springs churches reflect this with practical care, mobility-friendly programs, and a deep sense of service. Many churches in Colorado Springs offer deployment support, trauma-informed care, and community for rotating schedules, often highlighted by military and veteran support groups, flexible service times for shift work, and pastoral counseling and resilience.
Set at the foot of Pikes Peak, the city’s outdoorsy rhythm shapes worship and community life, with congregations planning trail meetups, service projects on public lands, and reflective spaces that take advantage of big skies and sunshine. This geography encourages gatherings that feel both adventurous and contemplative, seen in hiking and outdoor fellowship groups, creation care and environmental stewardship, and early sunrise services with views.
A family-friendly demographic and a growing student population from nearby campuses foster robust discipleship and outreach, with many neighborhoods—downtown, Old Colorado City, and the fast-growing northern suburbs—supporting distinct styles of gathering and bilingual options. Influenced by the city’s role as a hub for faith-based nonprofits and global missions, Colorado Springs churches lean into practical service and clear teaching, often emphasizing strong kids programs for young families, college student ministries, and expository Bible teaching.
