“And maybe you're here today and you're thinking, pastor, I really can't love anybody because I didn't grow up in an environment of wealth. I just don't understand it. I barely started coming to this church. I'm barely starting to learn how to shake hands and, like, sorta hug people. Like, I never did that before. Like, I don't know how to love people. Alright? Often the most important spiritual question isn't, you know, what's wrong with them over there? You know, it's what's going on within me. And so Jesus really has us do that first. You know? And that's that's part of, I guess, could say, conflict resolution. You know, what's happening in me? What am I afraid of? What am I avoiding? What am I assuming about this person, or what's shaping my attitude or my choices? What wound might I be guarding right now?”

This entrance to the temple where it had Corinthian brass and it was actually visually beautiful and this entrance to be a place where they could meet with God and yet he's outside of it. And I wonder if we've ever felt that way coming to church or going to small group or interacting with other believers where we're like, we're in proximity to a beautiful thing but our situation feels broken. His joy was not determined by his circumstances.”

“Whoever was the feet washer was the lowest of low. None of the disciples wanted to do it. They're like, I ain't washing that man's stinky feet. I ain't gonna do that. We can't make Jesus do it. The most powerful person in the room in the universe, what does he do? How does he serve them? He serves he loves them by serving them. He gets up. He puts on. He wraps a towel. He goes and gets a bucket. He gets some water, and he gets a towel, and he starts to clean their feet. Because a disciple loves people. How? By serving them.”

God kind of forgiveness is hard. It doesn't deny what happened. It just says, I refuse to let you have any control over me by staying tethered to you because of this thing you've done to me. And it says, I will trust that God will take care of me. He will pay you back, and he'll pay me back.”
