#CelebrateOthers
“Last time I checked, God is more than enough. So someone else's blessing is not evidence that God has overlooked us. He's not asking us to compete and compare with one another, and that is hard. I am extremely competitive. Everything in my life is a competition. But God did not design us to function that way as members of one body. All with different assignments and responsibilities he has called us together to celebrate one another, to serve one another, to love one another, not to compete. Someone else's gifting and responsibility does not diminish yours. Someone else's opportunity doesn't cancel yours. Someone else's blessing isn't evidence that God's absent in your life, but comparison turns people who we should be celebrating into a people that we need to compete with. And that's not how the body of Christ is designed to function.”

“There is God's part. But make no mistake, there is our part. My part, your part. Everyone who ever dared follow God, there is your part. And listen to James. Submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee. Let me ask you a question. Are you a believer who is defined as more than a conqueror, who has been given the power of the Holy Spirit to live inside of you? Everything you need, God has provided for you spiritual, or are you a wimpy Christian?”

“But the thing is, when we're filled with the spirit, it's kinda like you turn the faucet on and you your cuts just overflowing. God will provide the spirit to the point that that you feel so full of him that you want others to have part of it. You wanna share it with the world. You want people to understand the transformation that's happened in your life. It's a cup filled to overflow so it spills over and people can see and experience what God's doing in your life. You see, Jesus never intended Christians to merely contain joy. He intended for us to exude it. He intended for us to share it with others, to let people see it, not the faces that were on the screen, but joy in our hearts. Sometimes our faces matter in those situations, but more importantly, our responses to the things of this world matter.”

“That by my own deeds, by my own merit, if I'm getting what I deserve, it's not Jesus's place to be on the cross, it's mine. That if I got what I deserve, I don't get to stand in the crowd and watch. If I get what I deserve, I'm on the cross beside him. That Jesus has taken my place. As we reflect on the cross, the hope is that we see what Jesus is accomplishing on our behalf.”

“Christ Jesus in our gospel today does not reject the Canaanite woman, but he tests her. Do you believe that I am the son of God? Do you believe that God has mercy on all people? And the answer that she gave was yes. Yes, Lord, you do. It might only be the crumbs, though it is more. But you do, oh, Lord. And Christ Jesus showed her that it is more than the crumbs. It is not only the earthly blessings, as much as we cherish them and think about them, they are the crumbs. But it's also the heavenly blessings which Christ calls all people to. What's the holy spirit leads and guides and gathers people from all the ends of the earth to in his church.”

#GratefulHeart
“Comparison steals contentment because it just keeps moving the finish line. And instead of being grateful for what we have, we begin living for the next thing. And comparison and discontent feed each other. They go hand in hand. We're discontent. We're dissatisfied. And we start comparing and looking around and questioning, why does their marriage look like that? Why do they get to go on that vacation? Why did they get that opportunity? Why haven't they asked me to do this? Why is my kid not getting the playing time? And it's the constant looking around, questioning, measuring that quickly turns to grumbling and grumbling against God.”

#FollowJesus
“Because following Jesus was never about keeping up with everybody else. Keeping up with the Joneses and doing this, it was never about having what everybody else has. It was never about being further ahead or being more recognized or being more successful. It has always been and always will be about following him. Jesus didn't ask Peter to follow John. He didn't ask Peter to, you know, to have John's future future or to carry John's responsibility. He said, you must follow me. I've given your you your assignment, now follow me.”

#StayInYourCalling
“Peter's problem wasn't that he didn't know his assignment and what God had given him. It was that he was distracted by someone else's. And I think this is where many of us get caught up. We become so consumed with what's happening in somebody else's life that we lose sight of what is happening in our very own. And we lose sight of what Jesus is asking of us. Comparison does that to us. It's dangerous. It takes our eyes off of the one that we are supposed to be following. And it doesn't just change how we feel, it changes how we see. It changes how we see things and situations and circumstances. It messes with our perspective.”

#FaithfulToYourAssignment
“Paul directly addresses comparison. And in context, he's defending his ministry. He's being compared to other people's standards. And he says, no, no, no, no. I'm not gonna be compared to everyone else's standards. I'm compared to the responsibility that God has given me. And there is a principle in here for every single one of us today. We cannot be faithful to the assignment that God has placed on our life when we are comparing it to someone else's. Comparing distracts us from our calling. It distracts us from what God has given us to do.”

#BiblicalContentment
“But I also wanna say that biblical contentment is also not complacency. We're not meant to just be complacent. We... Paul teaches us to be content in Christ and to also press forward in spiritual growth to mature and become more like Christ. So contentment doesn't mean we just stop growing. It means we stop requiring different circumstances to trust God while we grow. Ouch.”
