“What was Jesus experiencing on his way to the cross? What's it say? Jesus experienced joy. Why is that? We were the source of his pain. We were the source of his suffering. It's our sin. It's our rebellion against him that sent him to the cross. We are the source, but we are also the source of his joy because he knew this. Again, because we know the rest of the bible and so did he. When he died on the cross and rose from the dead, he defeated sin. We can now have a restored relationship with God through the blood of Christ. We can have eternal life through his resurrection.”

And and this is so cool because as I heard somebody say one time that if Jesus does this, Jesus might be offering her a gift that she hasn't had in a long time. You know what that gift is? The dignity of having something worth asking for. And I thought about that. I thought, that's pretty cool. The dignity of being seen, of of of having importance, to be able to help someone, a chance to be a blessing to somebody else. Maybe hasn't happened in a long time for her, and he gives her that opportunity.”

“But I'd wanna know why. I wanna know where we were going, how long are we gonna be there, what's it gonna cost me. I'd wanna know what's in it for me. Would anybody else be asking Jesus some more questions before we just dropped everything and followed? Twenty five years into ministry, I still questions. I don't think that faith means that we stop asking our questions. I think it means that we learn whom we can trust with questions. I have a feeling that Peter and Andrew are not all that different from us. After all, maybe the biggest question in all of this is who is the me that we are supposed to follow? When Jesus says, follow me, who exactly is that Peter and Andrew, before they could follow him, they had to decide if they trusted and if they loved him enough in order to follow him.”

“And maybe our calling during transition is not to cling too tightly to the past or fear the future, but to stay centered in Christ while we move forward. God is our strength and our refuge and ever present help. Therefore, we will not fear as the psalmist says. You see, anxiety does not get the final word. does not lead the church. Christ leads the church. And in the middle of all the worldly noise we have around us, the church still has an opportunity to be something meaningful. A place of grace, a place of kindness, a place where people are reminded that they, yes, are loved by god. Don't let anybody tell you differently.”

Or or I know he's guilty, but I'll serve his sentence. Give his debt to me, and I'm gonna pay it in full. Church, that's what we have in Jesus. He took all the guilt and the shame that belonged to us, and he died for it so that we could be forgiven, so that we could be brought to God.”
