Types of churches in Austin

Modern Austin Churches

Austin’s modern congregations feature band-led worship, casual dress, and tech-forward production. Many meet in renovated warehouses or multi-site campuses from South Austin to the Domain and East Riverside, offering practical teaching and robust volunteer teams for the city’s tech and creative workers.

Young Adult Churches in Austin

Congregations geared to 18–30-year-olds cluster near UT Austin, West Campus, East Riverside, and the central core. They offer late-evening services, midweek groups, and social events that fit student and young professional schedules, with rides from campus and downtown apartments. Teaching often addresses career transitions, roommate life, and finding community in a fast-growing city.

Historic and Liturgical

These congregations worship in historic sanctuaries around Downtown, Clarksville, and Hyde Park, emphasizing choral music, pipe organ, and a structured liturgy. They attract multi-generational Austinites and newcomers seeking reverence, sacramental rhythms, and architectural character.

Spanish-Language & Bilingual

Spanish‑language and bilingual congregations are prominent in East Austin, Montopolis, St. Johns, and along North Lamar and Rundberg. Many offer dual‑language worship, family ministries, and immigration or mutual‑aid support, reflecting the city’s Mexican and Central American roots. Weekends often include community meals and youth programs that serve multi‑generational households.

#ArmYourselfWithScripture
“Are you gonna stand? Are you diligently preparing yourself? Are are you investing and understanding biblical doctrine so that you have something to fight with? This is the sword of the spirit. And if I'm going into battle, I don't wanna walk out there with a pin knife. Do you? I want the biggest sword in the armory. The biggest sword I can swing. That's the sword I'm going in the battle with. But you see, they don't just hand the biggest sword to the guy that that's the new recruit. It's the guy that's shown proficiency because he's trained himself. He's shown he can handle that sword. Some of us think we're ready for the big sword, but we're liable to cut our heads off with it. Prepare, study, be diligent, know what God's word says, and live it. Train yourself for godliness.”

“Now, there's two types of fool. There's Thanksgiving fool, where you eat way too much food and you can't move, and you just have nothing to do but to sink into the couch and just sit there for hours until you come back to your senses. That's not the fool that Paul was talking about here, because that fool is a finish line. But what Paul is talking about is the other kind of fool, the gas tank fool, where you pull into the gas station and you fill up the gas tank, and now you're ready to go. Because it would be kind of silly to fill up your gas tank and just let the car sit in the driveway, but rather it's the gas tank full that says that you'll be filled to the fullness that you have what you need, you have what you have to go the road ahead.”

“``and unfortunately, what we preached to people is come here and get your spirituality and then go back home and work on your business. Come here and get your spirituality and go back home and work on your education. When god says, come here, work on your spirituality, and go home and put me in your business. Put me in your education. Put me in your relationship with other people. If you put me in it, I'll blow that up just like I'll blow the meeting place up.”

“I started to think like, oh God, why am I not coming to you in the same ways that I do when I feel really defeated, when I feel uncertain? And, I think one of the things that came up for me is how I interact with God, it's okay if it looks a little different too when I'm experiencing those pleasant emotions. What I notice is that I actually spend more time in gratitude. I'm actually more present like there can be a different way of communing with God, but sometimes we just have to practice that.”

“This isn't someone saying your God doesn't exist. That's not what he says. He just says, No, no, no, your God may exist. And it's fine for you to worship Him. He's just not worth trusting in this circumstance. Just look around. Just what do your eyes tell you? He he can't overcome this. It's irrational to trust him. It's impractical to trust him. And every crisis face, external, internal, every crisis whispers to your soul, God can't be trusted.”

“He didn't go to God. He didn't call upon the name of the Lord. He didn't build an altar. He came up with his solution of this lie and that that'll be my way of salvation. Think of what he came from, the calling out, the great obedience of leaving everything behind. Coming down to Canaan, think of hearing from the Lord as he builds these altars and he calls upon the name of the Lord, and we see him providing in so many different ways, and then he gets to this spot and he's like, I know what will save me.”

“Jesus doesn't separate the worshipers from the doubters. He doesn't shame those who show a little bit of hesitation. He doesn't revoke their invitation or say, go back down. Get off my mountain. He simply comes closer. He simply steps in and comes closer. And the reason that I wanted to use this particular translation of this particular passage from the Gospel of Matthew is that right in the middle of this passage, we're reassured that Jesus was undeterred.”

“Alright. So what's he saying here? Anything in our life that sits on the throne of our heart that is directing it, where we find our meaning, value, purpose, and worth is actually an idol in our life. Now look, I think it's easy for us to look at the easy idols and say, okay, I can take care of the the bad stuff. The bad stuff's really apparent sometimes. Right? Whether like maybe it's an addiction that has taken over our life and we wanna repent of that and turn to the Lord, or whether it is maybe some kind of sexual immorality or something that's going on in our life. It's easy to point that out and to deal with that and turn to the Lord. Right? But the ones that are more subtle and I think harder for us are the ones that actually look good.”

“I was what bishop would call drinking from the saucer. I was living in the the way I'm gonna say this is gonna sound weird to some people. It's the best way I know how to say it. I was living in the externalized experience of a reality that has been formed in my prayer closet for quite a while now. Mhmm. Like, since before we got to the land. Wow. Mhmm. So it was like think think the most extended deja vu experience.”
