Could you let us know why so that we can improve our ministry?
by Fellowship Baptist Church of Vienna, WV on Nov 05, 2023
He performed miracles right before your eyes. He did things that were unmistakable and could not be denied. And you know this to be true because you witnessed it firsthand. You saw him heal the sick, give sight to the blind, and even raise the dead. These miracles were evidence that he was approved by God and that he was the promised Messiah.
But Peter doesn't stop there. He goes on to explain the purpose and significance of these miracles. He says, "Jesus of Nazareth, being delivered by the determinate council and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain." Peter makes it clear that Jesus' ministry was not without purpose. He was not just a good teacher or a moral man. He was sent by God with a specific mission - to die for the sins of the world.
Peter goes on to explain that Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of God, as it was not possible for him to be held by death. He quotes from the Psalms of David, showing that even David prophesied about the resurrection of Christ. This is significant because it shows that Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament and that his resurrection was evidence of his divinity and power over death.
So Peter's message concerning the unmistakable ministry of Christ is one of great importance. He is proclaiming that Jesus was not just a man, but that he was approved by God and performed undeniable miracles. He was crucified and raised from the dead, fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament. This is the foundation on which the Christian faith is built.
In addition to the message concerning the ministry of Christ, Peter also includes a message concerning the identity of Jesus. He proclaims that Jesus is both Lord and Christ, a declaration that would have been radical and controversial to his Jewish audience. The Jewish people were expecting a Messiah who would come as a political and military leader to overthrow their oppressors, but Jesus came as a humble servant, offering salvation and forgiveness of sins.
Peter's message is a powerful one, convicting his audience of their rejection and crucifixion of Jesus, but also offering them hope and redemption through faith in him. He challenges them to call on the name of the Lord and be saved, emphasizing that salvation is available to all who believe, regardless of their past actions.
Overall, Peter's message is one of power, truth, and hope. He proclaims the unmistakable ministry of Christ, the identity of Jesus as both Lord and Christ, and offers salvation and forgiveness to all who believe. It is a message that still resonates today and continues to transform lives.
