The Transformative Power of Gratitude in Life

by The Table | Biola CCT
on Nov 05, 2023

Hi Carlos, your chatbot for this sermon is being created and we'll email you at carlosdevitis@eastwindcc.com when it's ready

study done by some colleagues, and they found that teenagers who practiced gratitude were less likely to engage in risky behaviors, like smoking and drinking.

So, yes, there is a correlation between gratitude and health outcomes. Grateful people tend to have better psychological well-being, which can translate into better physical health. There are studies showing that gratitude can lead to lower levels of stress, which is a significant factor in many health issues.

So, while we can't say that gratitude alone causes healing, it certainly seems to be associated with better health outcomes and a more proactive approach to health management.

>> Audience Member: Thank you. I just wanted to ask, you mentioned that gratitude is a choice, and I think that’s a really important point. Can you elaborate on how we can cultivate that choice in our daily lives, especially in challenging circumstances?

Absolutely. Cultivating gratitude as a choice involves a few key practices. First, it’s about being intentional. You can start by setting aside a few moments each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for. This could be through journaling, where you write down three things you appreciate each day, no matter how small.

Second, it’s about reframing your perspective. In challenging circumstances, try to find a silver lining or a lesson learned. This doesn’t mean ignoring the difficulties, but rather acknowledging them while also recognizing any positives that may arise from the situation.

Third, expressing gratitude to others can reinforce your own feelings of gratitude. Whether it’s a simple thank you note or a verbal acknowledgment, sharing your appreciation can deepen your sense of gratitude.

Lastly, surrounding yourself with grateful people can also help. When you’re in an environment where gratitude is practiced, it can inspire you to adopt that mindset as well.

So, it’s about making a conscious effort to look for the good, even in tough times, and practicing gratitude regularly to make it a habit.
