Embracing True Worship: Surrendering to Jesus as Lord
Summary
In this sermon, I was reminded of the simplicity of worship and the importance of surrendering our lives to God. Worship is not just about singing praises or saying beautiful words about God, it's about acknowledging Him as the Lord of our lives and surrendering ourselves to Him. It's about bowing down at His feet and acknowledging that He is in charge of our lives. Worship becomes easier the more we know Him and the more we realize that He is with us. We need to be conscious of His presence and acknowledge it in our daily lives.
The sermon also emphasized the importance of acknowledging Jesus as the Lord of our lives. It's not enough to just believe in Jesus, we need to acknowledge Him as the Lord of our lives. He is either the Lord of everything in our lives or He's not the Lord at all. Worship is born out of love and to love Him, we need to know His character. That's why it's important to go to the Word and find Him in the Word. The more time we spend with Him, the easier it is to worship and praise Him.
Key takeaways: - Worship is not just about singing praises or saying beautiful words about God, it's about acknowledging Him as the Lord of our lives and surrendering ourselves to Him ([01:03:52]). - We need to be conscious of God's presence and acknowledge it in our daily lives ([01:07:29]). - It's not enough to just believe in Jesus, we need to acknowledge Him as the Lord of our lives ([01:01:46]). - To love God and worship Him, we need to know His character. Study Guide
Main Points from the Sermon:
1. Worship is more than singing; it's obedience and full-time service to God. It's born out of love and understanding of His character, which we can learn through His Word. We should seek to find Him in the Word, not just the law. ([01:08:19])
2. Worship is a simple act, but it can be difficult because it requires surrendering our lives to God. It's not just about acknowledging Him as Lord, but truly letting Him be the Lord of our lives. ([01:03:52])
3. Worship becomes easier the more we know God and the more we are conscious of His presence. Our lives should be a continuous act of worship. ([01:06:43])
4. Jesus should be the Lord of all aspects of our lives. Meditating on who He is and what He has done for us can help us in our worship. ([59:21])

Devotional
Day 1: Acknowledge His Presence
In our daily lives, we often forget to acknowledge the presence of God. This sermon reminds us that God is always with us, and we should be conscious of His presence. By setting reminders or taking moments throughout the day to thank Him and acknowledge His presence, we can cultivate a deeper relationship with Him. This practice can help us to worship Him throughout the day, not just during specific times of prayer or church services. [01:07:29]
Bible passage: Exodus 33:14 - "And He said, 'My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'"
Reflection: How can you incorporate moments of acknowledging God's presence into your daily routine?
Day 2: Worship is More Than Singing
Worship is not just about singing songs or attending church services. It's about surrendering our lives to God and acknowledging Him as our Lord. This means giving Him control over every aspect of our lives and seeking His will in all we do. Worship is a lifestyle, not just an activity. [01:03:52]
Bible passage: Romans 12:1 - "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."
Reflection: In what areas of your life do you struggle to surrender to God? How can you work towards giving Him control in these areas?
Day 3: Know His Character
To truly worship God, we need to know His character. This means spending time in His Word and seeking to understand who He is. The more we know about God, the easier it is to worship Him. This sermon encourages us to study the names of God and understand their meanings as a way to deepen our understanding of His character. [01:10:34]
Bible passage: Psalm 9:10 - "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you."
Reflection: Choose one name of God and spend some time studying its meaning. How does this name reflect God's character and how can it deepen your worship?
Day 4: Worship Him in Spirit
Worship is not just about the words we say or the songs we sing. It's about the posture of our hearts towards God. This sermon reminds us that we should worship God in spirit, acknowledging Him as our Lord and surrendering our lives to Him. [01:00:08]
Bible passage: John 4:24 - "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."
Reflection: How can you cultivate a heart posture of worship towards God? What does it look like for you to worship God in spirit?
Day 5: Understand His Law
Understanding God's law is not just about following rules. It's about understanding His character and His desires for us. This sermon encourages us to study God's law not as a set of restrictions, but as a revelation of who God is. [01:11:12]
Bible passage: Psalm 119:34 - "Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart."
Reflection: How can you approach studying God's law with a mindset of understanding His character? How does understanding His law deepen your worship?

Do we really still confess Jesus as Lord in our lives?
Right in English, you have a saying: He is either Lord of all or he's not Lord at all. He's the Lord of everything in my life or he's not the Lord at all. Is he the master? Is he the king of your life?
Is that amazing? So this will help you to worship. Meditate on who he is and what he did for you. I love the gospels because I don't only see the names of God, but I see the person of Jesus. I see who he is towards other people, how loving he is. But I also see that he is a God of action. He is not a God that stands afar. I see the Holy Spirit and just lets us mess around and do not for my village, but he's closely involved in our lives.
Who is Jesus to me? He's my savior. He's my Lord. He's my master. He's my friend. He's the author and finisher of my faith. He is my advocate. He's the bridegroom. He's the head of the church. I said, "Hope on the cake, I expect him soon." He is my beginning and he is my end. I remember he is my bread of life.
He's the word of God. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Later, Jesus is the servant. Jesus is the Son of God. He is the King of Kings. He's altogether lovely, Allah, and worthy to be praised.
Who is he to you? Just ask yourself that. That's how you should worship him. Maybe you don't always know what to say, but then you start with a few words and then you start worshiping him in spirit. Worship is something that you do.
I mentioned this before, but years ago I had a vision. I had a lot of visions, but I remember this vision very clearly. This is one of the ones that I got very shortly after I was born again. I wasn't married yet, so the Lord showed me in this vision a large group of people, almost like a city square, filled with people who were tormented, that were bowed down.
In the middle of worship, I was the one that got up in that group of people and I said, "Lord, how do I worship?" And he answered, "Just do it. Do it at home. Just do it."
That was before Nike, but this is nice: just do it. Just do it at home. You're like, "I don't understand exactly." I didn't understand either, but I saw all these people that were bowed down in worship to God. I asked, "How do I worship you?" And he said, "Do it. You just worship."
You know what it is? You acknowledge that he is God. You acknowledge that he is Lord. You throw yourself down at his feet the same way that people in the New Testament did. They ultimately threw themselves down at the feet of Jesus. That is what worship means: throw yourself down at his feet and acknowledge him as your master.
You acknowledge him as your Lord. You acknowledge him as the love of your life. He is your first love. It's that simple. So simple. Don't make it more complicated. Worship is actually quite simple.
It's the same thing with praise. It's actually quite simple. It's ultimate, but as you start doing it, you will always learn how to do more. The reason why it's so hard for some people to worship is because it's hard for them to surrender their lives. They don't really want to throw themselves down, and they don't really want to acknowledge him as Lord.
They don't mind saying that he is Lord, but to really acknowledge that he is Lord, or the boss of their lives, that's a different level. So that's why the Bible says, right? It's not enough to just believe in Jesus because even demons believe. They are afraid, right?
So we need to believe, but we need to acknowledge him as the Lord of our life. Is he the Lord of your life, or are you still your own boss? Worship is not so hard, but it's the hardest thing in the world because it means you surrender your life over.
It's not just saying, "I just need to tell myself, 'Lord, you are mighty.'" It's not just saying, "Lord, you are beautiful." It's not just lifting your hands and singing pretty songs. It's bowing down at his feet. It's bowing down of your heart. That is saying, "Lord, you are in charge of my life."
What is worship? It's acknowledging that he is God and that you are not. We are the subjects, and he is the king. It means loving him at this level. It means expressing our emotions to him. That is also a motive. It means adoring him.
You can only worship God in the areas that you have a revelation of him. He needs to reveal himself to you. So in the beginning, you probably worship him as your savior, but from there, you will get to know him in so many different ways.
I worship him as my father. He's my heavenly father. He is my source. Everything I have, all I own, all I see for myself in the future, all of it is amazing that you can make this. Amen.
Hebrews 10 verse 22: "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water."
So let's draw near to God. We need to draw near to God. We should have times of worship, right? We should have times of worship not just in the church, but in our house. It's very good to start with praise and worship and then from there move to prayer and intercession.
It's not necessary, but it's helpful. But more than just our times of worship, we should realize that our lives should be a continuous worship. Worship becomes easier the more we know him and the more we realize that he is with us.
We need to be presence-conscious. Be conscious of his presence. So it helps when you just acknowledge it out loud.
Does it help? What I said when I used to have alarms on my phone? I didn't do tunics right, and every hour I would get a notification: "Practice his presence." I would take the time, "Yes, thank you, Lord, for your presence. Your presence is here doing good things. There's none like you that is in all the heavens and all the earth. There is none like you."
And then I would go on and do my work. It helped me to worship him throughout the whole day. Worship is more than singing. It's obedience.
You need to know his character. So that's why you go to the Word. Don't find the law in the Word, but find him in the Word. That's the secret of reading the Bible.
From the Bible, find Jesus in the Word of God. It's Jesus. What is his purpose? His purpose was to manifest himself. This is what Jesus also said. He was there to manifest the Father. He said, "If you know me, you know him."
So know Jesus because he is the Word of God made flesh. Go to the Word and then spend time with him. The more time you spend with him, the easier it is to worship. The easier it is to praise him.
Amen. Amen. Study who he really is. One of the first things that I did when I became a Christian was study the names of God. I had one guy that came to me because I talked to him about all the names of God.
He said, "I don't understand this. Why is this so important to you, all these Hebrew names?" A couple of weeks later, he came to me because we were singing a song. I don't remember which name, but it probably was Adonai or something else.
He said, "You're actually right because I didn't even know what I was singing." I said, "Yeah, you can sing Adonai, but you don't know what Adonai means."
Anything else to die, but you don't know what else to die because I'm not going to tell you today. So that could be a challenge for you to start reading up on this.
Did you know that what it means? He says, "I'm El Elyon." I'll just let that simmer right there. The more you know about God, the easier it is to worship him.
God is who he says that he is, and he reveals himself throughout the whole Bible. I opened by itself for doing the daily life.
That's why the Word of God is so powerful. A lot of times I hear people talk about the law, and it's not like the law is not important, but this is the revelation of God.
I did this to open bodies. It's not the revelation of the law. I just need to open bodies. It's the revelation of God. This is the open body. Through the law, you get to know him by obeying the law, by knowing why he wrote what he wrote. God.
