Embracing Your God-Given Purpose and Impact

Summary

In my sermon, I began by addressing the congregation with a warm welcome and appreciation for the worship and the diligent work of our ushers. I encouraged the congregation to arrive early to secure their preferred seats and highlighted the importance of our children's ministry. I also mentioned our upcoming community service initiatives and the mission trip to Africa, emphasizing the importance of physical presence in the community and supporting missions through giving and prayer.

I then transitioned into the heart of the sermon, focusing on the series "Promises," which explores the four core promises God made to the Israelites in Exodus and their fulfillment through Jesus Christ. I reiterated our church's vision to help people know God, find freedom, discover their purpose, and make a difference, aligning these with the four promises.

I delved into the importance of discovering one's purpose, using Jeremiah's calling as a prophet to illustrate how God has a specific plan for each of us, regardless of our circumstances. I emphasized that God does not consider our past or limitations when calling us to our purpose. I challenged the congregation to stop making excuses and to embrace what God is speaking into their lives.

I spoke about the dangers of not walking in our God-given purpose, which can lead to a counterfeit version of ourselves and rob others of the blessings we are meant to provide. I stressed that discovering our purpose is not just about volunteering in the church but finding where we fit in the body of Christ and the world at large.

I addressed the enemies of purpose, such as comparison, confusion, counterfeit, and inferiority, and how these can prevent us from fulfilling our God-ordained roles. I encouraged the congregation to clothe themselves in spiritual fruit and to connect with the church and God's word to discover their purpose.

I concluded by praying for the congregation, asking God to help us all discover and walk in our purpose, and to give us the courage to step out in faith, even when it means leaving our comfort zones.

Day 1: Embracing Your Unique Role in God's Plan
God has intricately designed a unique purpose for each individual, one that extends beyond the walls of the church and into the very fabric of the world. This purpose is not a one-size-fits-all role but a specific calling that aligns with the individual's gifts, passions, and the needs they see around them. It's about finding that place where one's deepest joy meets the world's deep hunger. This discovery process is not just about volunteering for various church activities but about seeking God's guidance to understand where one fits within the larger body of Christ and how they can impact the world.

This journey of discovery requires introspection, prayer, and a willingness to step out in faith. It's about listening for God's voice and being open to the opportunities He presents. It's also about community—engaging with others to find where one's talents can best serve the needs of those around them. When individuals embrace their unique role in God's plan, they not only find fulfillment but also become conduits of blessing to others, living out the love and grace of Christ in tangible ways. [07:40]

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10 ESV

Reflection: What unique gifts or passions do you possess that could meet a need in your community or church? How can you take a step this week to explore or act on this?

Day 2: Overcoming the Obstacles to Your Purpose
The path to fulfilling one's God-given purpose is often littered with obstacles such as comparison, confusion, counterfeit, and feelings of inferiority. These enemies of purpose can cloud one's vision and hinder them from stepping into the role God has designed for them. Comparison can lead to discouragement when one measures their progress against others. Confusion can arise when there are too many voices and choices, making it difficult to discern God's direction. Counterfeit purposes may tempt individuals with the allure of success or recognition, while feelings of inferiority can convince them that they are not worthy or capable of fulfilling their calling.

To overcome these obstacles, it is crucial to ground oneself in faith and the truth of God's word. This involves recognizing one's unique value in Christ and the specific plan He has for each life. It also means being vigilant against the lies that can derail one from their purpose and instead, focusing on the promises and affirmations found in scripture. By doing so, individuals can break free from the chains of these enemies and walk confidently in the purpose God has for them. [55:19]

"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." - 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

Reflection: Which of the enemies of purpose (comparison, confusion, counterfeit, inferiority) is most affecting you right now, and what scripture can you meditate on to combat it?

Day 3: Letting Go of Excuses to Embrace God's Call
God's call on one's life does not depend on past achievements or failures, nor does it consider one's limitations. The divine calling transcends human inadequacies and invites individuals to step into greatness that can only be accomplished through God's strength. Embracing this call requires letting go of excuses and the comfort of the known. It means trusting that God has equipped and will continue to equip those He calls for the work He has assigned to them.

This step of faith can be daunting, but it is also liberating. It allows individuals to break free from the constraints of their own self-doubt and to experience the fullness of life that comes from walking in God's purposes. When one aligns with God's will, they open themselves up to possibilities beyond their imagination and become part of a larger story of redemption and hope. [46:41]

"For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." - Philippians 2:13 ESV

Reflection: What excuses or limitations have you been holding onto that prevent you from embracing God's call on your life, and how can you surrender these to God today?

Day 4: Serving Others as an Expression of Divine Calling
The purpose God instills in each person is not solely for their own benefit but is deeply connected to serving others. This service is an expression of love for God and humanity and is a tangible way to contribute to the kingdom of God. By serving others, individuals live out their divine calling and become a source of blessing to those around them. This service can take many forms, from simple acts of kindness to dedicated ministry work, but at its core, it is about reflecting the love and grace of Christ to the world.

Serving is not just an activity but a lifestyle—a way of being in the world that seeks to uplift, support, and encourage others. It is through this service that individuals can truly make a difference, impacting lives and drawing others closer to God. By embracing this aspect of their purpose, they fulfill their role in God's grand narrative of redemption. [01:00:13]

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." - 1 Peter 4:10 ESV

Reflection: How can you serve someone in your community or church this week, and what might be the first step to take in offering that service?

Day 5: The Ongoing Journey of Discovering Purpose
Discovering one's purpose is not a one-time event but an ongoing journey that requires daily renewal and commitment. It involves continually seeking God's guidance, immersing oneself in His word, and cultivating the spiritual fruit that comes from a life lived in relationship with Christ. As individuals grow in their faith and understanding, they draw closer to comprehending their unique reason for being and what they are meant to do.

This journey is marked by moments of clarity as well as periods of waiting and seeking. It is a process of becoming, of being shaped and molded by God's hand, and of learning to trust in His timing and plan. By committing to this daily pursuit of purpose, individuals can live with intention and direction, making the most of every opportunity to fulfill the calling God has placed on their lives. [58:07]

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9 ESV

Reflection: What is one way you can actively seek to understand your purpose today, and how can you incorporate this into your daily routine?

Quotes

"See, the way I was going to end my message was with this quote right here. My purpose is to serve God by serving others. My purpose is to serve God by serving. So how do I serve God? By serving people. And that's the reason why it's important to discover my purpose, my place in the body of Christ. Because he set the members in the body as it pleases him." [01:01:08]( | | )

"Some of y'all have dumbed down who you're called to be. And now you're trying to be a pastor, a minister. And that's good if that's your calling. I am content in my calling. But if that's not what you're called to do, stop pursuing stuff like that. Because someone looked at you and said, oh, you look like a preacher." [01:02:01]( | | )

"For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus. For what reason? So we can do the good things he has planned. See, it's not good. See, and again, even though I'm teaching this of getting us out of Egypt, getting Egypt out of us, and then restoring us back to our original design, don't miss my point as it relates to that God has some good things for us to do as an isolated thing." [01:03:50]( | | )

"Is your relationship in a low place? Is your vision in a low place? Is your calling in a low? It says he stooped down. Yeah. Is your marriage down here? Is your faith? Is your dream? It says he stooped down and made me great. God is in a business of stooping down and one thing I like the fact that if God has stooped down and pull me up, who am I not to be willing to stoop down and pull somebody else up?" [56:36]( | | )

"As I clothe myself in those garments of love, joy, peace, and long-suffering, and patience, and then I begin to find myself in his word and connect to a life-giving church and go to step three of the growth track. I think that happens today or next week. Next week, discover your purpose next week in growth track. But right now, discover it in his word, okay?" [58:07]( | | )

"Ephesians chapter 2 verse 10 says, For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Listen, he's planned something for you long ago. Before you even showed up, he had a plan for you. That's the reason why these little babies in your hand right now, there's a purpose locked up in the baby that you don't even know." [59:07]( | | )

"Comparison, confusion, counterfeit. As the enemy to your purpose. Watch this here. Inferiority. You feel inferior. Inferior. Scripture says here in Psalm 1835. I love this here. You stoop down to make me great. Are you in a low place right now? Is your marriage in a low place?" [55:19]( | | )

"The danger of you not doing, I'm saying this here, the danger of you not assuming the position that you have been assigned. How many other people are being robbed of what was? So you don't have a right to say, I don't want to do A, B, and C, because what you're saying is, I don't care about people. I don't care about those people who I'm assigned to, who I'm called to, whether it's in education, whether it's in politics, whether it's in religion, whether it's in entertainment, whatever mountain of influence." [01:04:52]( | | )

"Many of you are not walking in your purposes right now because you have some circumstances that conflicts with who God says you are. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. You are allowing the circumstances where you were born, where you were not born to dictate who you can and will become. You was born on the wrong side of the trike. You did not have the right resources. You did not finish school, but God is calling you to do something specific, but you're referring back to your condition." [46:41]( | | )

"How oftentimes have you talked yourself out of what God's trying to talk you into? And now you better shut your mouth. You better. Be quiet. Why? Because the power of life and death is really in your tongue. And how many doors have you shut in your own life? Because you didn't know when to shut your, no, I'm going to say what I want to say. I'm a man. That being in the man, that being a man or being a woman is going to get you in trouble. If you don't know how to control your." [48:12]( | | )
