Seeking Christ: Lessons from the Wise Men

by elizabethMo
on Nov 05, 2023

Hi Emlyn, your chatbot for this sermon is being created and we'll email you at edhartze@gmail.com when it's ready

The religious professionals said, "Oh, we know, we know what they're saying. You see."

Hello wonderful and beautiful people of God, this is your friend and your sister, Elizabeth Mo. Happy 2022 to you all. Yeah, happy 2022.

I know that as we continue in this year 2022, a lot of us have plans, a lot of us have things that we want to achieve in this 2022. But before we go on into racing down to say this is what we want to do, this is what we don't want to do, I want us to have it at the back of our minds that please, we need Christ. We need Christ.

This is a time for those of us that have not given your life to Christ; this is the time when you should accept Christ. And for those of us who have given our lives to Christ, this is the time for us to get more serious and build on that relationship that we have in Christ.

Do you know why I said this? Yeah, I'm saying this because in Him we live, we move, and we have our being. That's what the Bible says. So if we want to achieve, overachieve, and even make an impact in the lives of our friends and our community, we need Christ to help us in our journeys.

Okay, so today what I want to say is, yeah, before we go, just like as we're going into 2022, you know, I want us to just look back into the activities that we've done during the Christmas and let's see how these activities can help us to push us into 2022.

Christmas is not just an event; Christmas is not just a festival or something. Christmas has its own things, activities inside of it that we can learn from. And one of the things I want us to learn from this time around is what happens to the wise men.

Remember the wise men in the story in the nativity story? Yeah, we're gonna see what can we learn from these wise men that can push us forward in 2022.

Okay, now I want us to know that these wise men, they didn't even believe in Christ. They were not Jews to start with. They have come from the East. They have traveled all the way from the East. They are stargazers; they are astrologers.

So some scholars have said that they have traveled almost 800 miles following the star to Judea just because they knew that this that they have seen in the sky means that a king has been born. So they understood that so well, so they had to travel 800 miles to get to where the king is.

But the first error, the first mistake they've made is they went to the wrong place. Yeah, they went to the wrong place. They followed the star, but in their minds, they thought, which everybody and almost all of us would think as well, that oh, when they say a king is born, it has to be born in the palace.

Okay, so they went straight to the capital, that is Jerusalem, and they went to the palace of Herod and they were asking. Not only that they went to the wrong place, they were even asking the wrong people. So they went to the palace, okay, and then they were asking, "Oh, a king has been born," but guess what? Herod knew nothing, absolutely nothing.

The first mistake the wise men made was going to the wrong place. Herod called his scribes and chief priests, who were religious professionals, to ask if they knew anything about what the wise men were saying.

The religious professionals knew that the prophet Micah had written that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, not Jerusalem. However, they were not aware of the time or the happenings of what was written in the word of God.

The wise men followed the star and knew the time when it happened, but not the place. The religious professionals knew the place, but not the time. In order to have clarity on all things, they all had to go back to the Bible, which was their compass.

The response of the wise men when they finally got to Bethlehem was worship. Worship is not just about singing, but about listening to everything that God says and offering your whole life as a living sacrifice.

Their response was to worship Him, and this was even premeditated. From the time they went to Herod, they told him that, "Where is the King that we might worship Him?" So they had already had it at the back of their mind that this is a King and they have to worship Him.

I want to challenge you today. I want to ask you, what will your response be? You don't need to go to Judea to meet Him; you know that He can walk into your room. What do you think? Excuse me, what do you think your response will be to the stargazers, the astrologers? They knew that they would worship Him.

Do you intend your worship to be like that? How are you gonna worship Him? Is it with your whole life? Are you just gonna bow to Him or you're just gonna sing some songs to Him that you don't mean? If you mean those words in those songs, I don't leave them out.

That's how to worship God, and that was what the wise men exemplified to us there—that they are going to worship Him because He is a King.

So as we go on to this year 2022, these are the things that I want us to watch out for as we turn to give our lives to Christ or as we continue to build on the relationship that we already have.

So thank you very much for listening to me, and I pray that you will use some of those things accepting in our lives in 2022.

I believe in my heart, in the name of Jesus, that we will reap abundantly; we will reap enough harvest, enough souls will bring a lot more people to Christ.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Thank you very much until I come your way again next time with my videos. I'll leave you with the peace of God.
