Bible ReadingLuke 1:67-79 (ESV) 67 And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying,
68 “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people
69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David,
70 as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
71 that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;
72 to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,
73 the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
74 that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear,
75 in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins,
78 because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
79 to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Jeremiah 31:31-34 (ESV) 31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah,
32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord.
33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Observation Questions- In Zechariah’s song (Luke 1:67-79), what does he say God has done for His people, and what does the phrase “visited and redeemed” mean in this context? ([36:11])

- In Jeremiah 31:31-34, what is new or different about the covenant God promises to make with His people?
Interpretation Questions- The sermon explained that when God “remembers” and “visits” His people, it signals a decisive moment of intervention. Why is this significant for understanding God’s character and how He works in our lives? ([42:14])
- Zechariah’s song connects Jesus to the promises made to Abraham and David. Why is it important that Jesus fulfills both the old covenants and brings a new one? ([49:52])

Application Questions- The sermon described baptism as more than a ritual—it’s a declaration of a new beginning in Christ. If you have been baptized, how did that experience mark a turning point for you? If you haven’t, what questions or hesitations do you have about it? ([13:49])
- Zechariah’s song celebrates God’s faithfulness to keep His promises, even after long periods of silence. Is there an area in your life where you are waiting for God to “remember” or “visit” you? How can you hold onto hope during seasons of waiting? ([42:14])
- The gospel offers a new identity, not just a fresh start. Are there labels from your past—failures, family history, trauma—that you still carry? What would it look like to let Christ define your identity instead? ([54:23])
- The sermon challenged the idea that we are simply products of our environment or past. Is there a specific pattern or cycle in your life you feel stuck in? How might God’s grace empower you to break free from it? ([54:23])
- Zechariah says John’s calling is to “prepare the way” and give people knowledge of salvation. Who in your life might need you to “prepare the way” for them to encounter Jesus? What is one step you could take this week to point them toward Him? ([57:57])
- The pastor warned that it’s possible to be surrounded by God’s activity and still miss Him because of distractions or expectations. What are some distractions or expectations in your life that could keep you from noticing God’s presence? How can you be more attentive to His “visitation”? ([01:06:18])
- The invitation was clear: “Today is the day of salvation.” Is there a step of faith, obedience, or repentance that you sense God is calling you to take today? What is holding you back, and how can the group support you in responding? ([01:09:48])
