“Her prayer was never, give me what I want, and then I will praise you. Or bless me first, and then I will bless you in return. She's still waiting when we're told that she worships. And her theology that we've learned about so far holds, you are God, you are good before I have seen what it is that you will do. And that is what faith does in prayer before the answer ever arrives. It doesn't make God's worthiness depend on his fulfilling our desires.”

“The ordering of this is essential. The ordering of this is essential. Grace precedes obedience. Hannah's faithfulness is a response of faithfulness. That is where she is our sister. That is where she leads us and encourages us. Before she receives what it is that she has asked for, she goes forth because she trusts who God is. She's not working to make God faithful. She is worshiping because he already is, and she knows it.”

“What you have been given and what I have been given in the person of Christ is a display of God's faithfulness laid utterly exposed, laid utterly bare. A complete unveiling of just how marvelous he really is. What are the links that he will really go to to fulfill his covenant promises? How can we trust him? We look at his son, and then we stand on those promises. We shouldn't live a day, dare thinking by the faulty logic and sin that doubts his goodness. We should stand on those promises and live all of life as a living sacrifice.”
