#GentleLamb
“``And the thing that is the most striking to me, of all the images that God could have chosen to show how he turns away his own wrath, what did he choose? Of all the images that God chose to show how he turns away his own wrath, what is strong enough to turn away the wrath of God? What is the image that he chose? Behold the what of God? The lamb. I don't know about you, but lambs don't come across as real harsh. Do they? A lamb is gentle. A lamb is almost helpless even. I mean, it's just there's nothing it can do. And this is the image that God chose for us to show us. This is how you turn back my wrath. It's with gentleness. The gentleness of the lamb.”

#ExamineYourHeart
“The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. And so when we're angry and bitter and we let that come out and we just accept it, we're saying, give up on my sin. God is just gonna have to accept me the way I am and I'm not willing to put any more effort into it, and the rest of you are gonna have to just be okay with that. That's the old you. And that comes from the overflow of your heart. The mouth speaks out of the overflow of the heart. Isn't that what Jesus said? We talked about that a little bit last week. Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. And so what I wanna encourage you to do is really just examine your heart. I want you to go back to the source. If if the mouth is downstream of the heart, then let's go to the source. Let's look at the heart and examine it.”

#SeekTheLamb
“Because God sent his son, the lamb, to die in your place. And what the lamb wants you to know is that if you come to him, if you seek him, you will find him. That he's humble and lowly in heart, and he's looking for people who are looking for him. He's seeking peace and pursuing it with you. So as soon as you're ready and as soon as you want peace with him, he's ready to give it. God is an angry and jealous God. Yes. That is true. And someday you will see the lion roar. And it'll be glorious when he does because that's the end of sin and corruption. That's the end of harshness. But right now, he's presenting as a lamb. The symbol is I'm a lamb. Come to me. Follow Admit that my ways are the right ways and dedicate your life to following me. I'll give you a new heart. I'll put my spirit inside of you and you will be a peacemaker.”

#SoftAnswerWins
“You get sick of telling the kids to do it that way, and so finally you just I know that it's inappropriate and I need it to be because I I want you to listen. You're not taking me seriously. But what am I really communicating? What am I really teaching my kids when I do stuff like that? That if you don't get what you want, you gotta scream and yell. And that a soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stores up anger. I'm teaching them to use harsh words. And and in putting that inside of that's that's not the way that the Bible tells us we're supposed to live. But it can seem like, well, if I use soft words, that means I'm weak. Or if I use soft words, then I'm in agreement. You know, I I can't really take a hard stance. But I want you to know, you can say some really hard things in a really gentle way. In fact, the the Proverbs in another place say that a gentle word can break a bone.”

#HumbleConfession
“The Bible says that God gives grace to the humble. That's what you're doing. You're just saying I'm humble. I know. I'm not bragging about it. Because sometimes people brag about that. Like, oh, you know, my family, we get mad. We blow up. And that's that's not the heart. I shouldn't be that way. God, I'm confessing it. And then I wanna repent. I realized that I may fall again. I'm I'm probably going to fall again. I realized that unless you change things, this is the way I'm gonna I'm gonna have to struggle with this, but that's what I'm gonna do. I am gonna struggle with this. And so when I mouth off at somebody and I say that thing that kinda made me feel better for about two seconds, I realize I gotta go back to that person now and I gotta say, hey, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have talked like that. That's not how god deals with me. He deals with me like a father deals with his children. He has compassion. He wants the same thing out of me. That's how I wanna be with you. Please forgive me.”

#NewHeartNewYou
“But in the context of all of this, we understand that that is the way things are. But God loves us so much that he sent his only begotten son to die in our place, so that the wrath that was due us is now poured out on Jesus when he's on the cross and that we get his righteousness. And the way God describes it is we get new hearts. So when I'm saying choose words that come from your heart, I'm not talking about old you heart. I'm talking about new you heart. I'm talking about the one that's been completely rejuvenated and the law of God is written there, and it's full of life and it wants to please the father. That's the heart that I want you to draw from and that's the theology that surrounds this passage.”

#StartWithWhatIHeard
“Let me give you a phrase that you say, can just a little tool. If you're having problems with your in your marriage, you have something going on at home, and it this works with anybody, kids, coworkers, people at church. Here's what here's a way that you can say something like this. Somebody offends you, does something that you don't like, your wife smarts off and says that thing that she knows is gonna annoy you, she knows you don't wanna hear that, and so she says it. And so what do you say? Okay. Instead of me going, you know. Okay. Here's what I heard you say. Here's what I heard you say. This is what it made me think. Tell me where I'm wrong. That's gentle. And it's not weak.”

#PursuePeaceActively
“This is a hard verse. If you really start thinking about it, what does it look like for me to seek and pursue peace? I mean, if my life is full of peace and nobody's made me angry, I don't really have to do much seeking, do I? It's just there it is. What happens when when peace is a little bit hidden in a relationship? What happens when peace is far from a relationship? Well, never mind. I don't need you anymore. I'm just gonna go do my own thing and you just do whatever you want. It feels good to say. It's easy. It's proud too. It's disobedient. It's sinful. It's we got this list. It's bad. But a heart that's seeking peace and pursuing it is gonna say, okay. God sent his son seeking peace with me. What do I need to do? What do I need to do to fix this? Yeah. There are boundaries. There are things that's not gonna happen. But how can I fix peace? How can I get peace? How can I seek it and pursue it and make this a reality in our relationship?”
