#GraceChangesEverything
“And I think we have to remind ourselves of this, that like, we're not cleaning ourselves up so that God will finally love us. That is not what he is saying. God loved us first. His grace meets us right in our mess. You know, but that same grace, that same grace refuses to leave us trapped in it. And God's word exposes the thorns and the weeds, not to shame us, but to free us.”

“We can deceive ourselves by hearing God's word without doing what it says. Like, we can we can start to confuse familiarity with it, with faithfulness. We can mistake knowing the truth for living the truth, and that's dangerous. We can become so comfortable around the things of God that we actually never notice how little those things are actually changing us. You know, talking church is cheap, but doing church, that's a sacrifice.”

#RootedInChrist
“But here's the thing, good fruit, it requires good roots. Like, you can you can plant wonderful seeds, you can. But if the soil is being choked out by thorns and weeds, the growth is gonna get stunted every time. Right? Because some of us, we want God to produce the the fruit of patience while we just keep watering resentment. And we want the fruit of peace while we just keep feeding anxiety. And we want to become more like Jesus while refusing to surrender our habits and our attitudes that pull us away from him.”

#LetJesusIn
“Where have you been trying to look clean rather than allowing Jesus to make you whole? You know, because we don't have to pretend. You don't have to defend yourself. Like, we don't have to keep moving the mess around, like, we can just simply open the door. We can receive the word. Right? We can practice the word, and by the grace of Jesus, we can become people through whom his word will bring hope and love and joy to a hurting world.”

#BeTheChurch
“I mean, are we? Because if all we do is evaluate or critique or just talk about what the church should be doing, and yet we never serve, we don't give, we don't encourage, we don't pray, we don't carry another one's burdens. Man, then we've just mistaken observation for participation. That's hard. Jesus didn't call us to merely to admire his way of life. He called us to follow him and walk with him in it. Okay? The world doesn't need more people who can talk about the love of Jesus. No. It needs to encounter the love of Jesus through his people.”

#ShowUpInLove
“And we don't have to pretend that suffering isn't real. And we definitely shouldn't offer just easy answers to put some spiritual slogan on somebody's pain. Now sometimes the most Christ like thing that we can do is just to sit beside someone silently in their grief, to refuse to leave their their alone. You know, because Jesus, he didn't stand at a safe distance from our brokenness. No. He entered right into it. He came close. He carried our sin, our suffering, our shame, and he opened up a whole new way of life for us.”

#EverydayFaith
“And so the question isn't whether that we can look like Christians for an hour on a Sunday. Now the question is whether we are becoming more like Jesus in the ordinary moments of our life. On Monday, and Tuesday, and Wednesday, and every single day after that, are we growing in patience? Are we becoming more generous? Are we learning to forgive? Are we speaking with greater kindness and becoming more compassionate towards people who are hurting?”

#LeadByExample
“No. But but Jesus doesn't hand me a gavel. He hands me a mirror. And I was reminded of something very important, and not just as a father to my children, but as a follower of Jesus. That my kids, they're, they will not follow me where I'm not willing to lead them. And I will never become more like Jesus if I don't start doing what Jesus did. I can't keep telling my kids to practice responsibility while refusing to practice it myself. But I also can't keep hearing the words of Jesus, admiring his life, preaching his truth while refusing to follow him in the places where obedience can cost me something.”
