Bible ReadingIsaiah 54:14-17 “In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you. Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me. Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake. Behold, I have created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire, Who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
[03:30]Ephesians 6:10-17 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;”
[34:36]2 Corinthians 4:8-9 “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;”
[08:01]Psalm 91:1-7 “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’ Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.”
[25:09]1 Chronicles 4:9-10 “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, ‘Because I bore him in pain.’ And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!’ So God granted him what he requested.”
[21:23]Observation questions- In Isaiah 54:14-17, what comes first: being established in righteousness or dealing with the weapon? What else does God say will be far from His people? [13:53]
- In 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, what pressures are named, and what does Paul say those pressures do not get to do? [08:01]
- In the example from Psalm 91, what kinds of danger are mentioned, and what repeated promise is given about fear and nearness? [25:39]
- In the story of Jabez, what was spoken over his life through his name, and what specific things did he ask God to do? [22:01]
Interpretation questions- Isaiah says, “their righteousness is from Me.” How does that shape the way a believer fights oppression, accusation, and fear? [40:54]
- Fear separates, but caution discerns. What is the difference between pulling away from a person in fear and asking God how to handle what is unhealed wisely? [11:01]
- The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. What does it mean that silence can leave a situation unchallenged, while speaking God’s Word brings light to the way? [19:01]
- Jabez did not deny the pain connected to his story, but he refused to let pain become his future. What does that show about how God can interrupt labels, old reports, and words spoken over a life? [22:44]
Application questions- Where has oppression, fear, or terror been trying to feel normal in this season? What would it look like to agree with God that this is not the house you have to live in? [14:17]
- Has there been a relationship where fear made you want to throw the whole person away? What might caution and discernment look like there instead, without excusing what is unhealthy? [10:49]
- What lie has been repeated so often that it has started to feel true? How can that lie be rebuked at the root instead of watered any longer? [11:59]
- When pressure rises, is your first instinct to go silent, complain, or declare the Word? What is one Scripture you need to speak over your mind, body, family, or home this week? [20:23]
- Has pain, disappointment, or somebody else’s words ever tried to name your future? What would it sound like to pray like Jabez and ask God for blessing, enlargement, His hand, and protection from evil? [24:21]

- What “weapon” needs notice served on it right now—grumbling, exhaustion, accusation, isolation, compromise, fear, or something else? What would it look like this week to stop talking about it and start speaking to it in Jesus’ name? [31:17]
