#NotEveryOpenDoor
“``And here's the thing, just because there is an open door doesn't mean that God is opening it. One of the greatest temptations we face, one of the greatest challenges we face is chasing opportunities that look so good, but they actually mean we are no longer walking in obedience to what God is asking. I mean, that opportunity to take that job that list looks so enticing, that looks so good, that has all the perks. But deep down, we know to take that job means we're not living in obedience.”

#PromiseNotPrize
“the season of waiting, the promise cannot become the prize. If the promise becomes a prize, we end up chasing opportunity rather than living in obedience. You think about it. If the crown was a prize for David, he would have taken that opportunity. It would have turned him to a murderer and a king who had the reputation for doing it in his own strength rather than God releasing him. See, how we reach the promise matters as much as reaching it. Why? Because God is wanting to form something deeper in us. It's not just about the promise. It's about the journey to the promise and what God wants to do in us. See, for I love David. God's purpose being fulfilled was always the prize.”

#LeaveItToGod
“This is a profound piece of scripture because this opportunity presents itself to David. The opportunity to take out his enemy, to end his suffering, to take the kingship for himself, to take what God has promised him by his own hands. And as men see it as well as the perfect opportunity, so perfect that they say it's been given by God. And David is tempted. He creeps up to Saul, takes it immediately. He is regretful. He says, I cannot touch the Lord's anointed. He makes the call not to take the opportunity, but to choose obedience. makes the call not to take matters into his own hands, but to leave it in God's hands.”

#PursueTheSpirit
“He focused on who God was in the middle of the circumstance, And that focus meant that he was sustained through the cave. That focus meant that he's he meditated on the character of his god. It meant that he overcame in the cave. He meditated on god's love, his faithfulness, his goodness, his mercy, the one who helped him, the god that was his strength. And the other incredible thing that David did is he was a man that pursued the Holy Spirit. He was a man that pursued the presence of God. And what God has been so teaching me lately”

#ExtendGrace
“Your spouse, when it feels like so much hurt has been done, No. I'm gonna extend God's goodness to them. I'm gonna extend grace to them. I'm gonna be Jesus to them. Come on. There is breakthrough in our goodness. There is breakthrough that God wants to reveal in our goodness. This is all through scripture. Love your enemies. Turn our cheek. Repay evil with good. Love those who persecute you. Be known for our good deeds.”

#BreakthroughThroughGoodness
“It causes him to look at what God is doing at all through scripture. You and I, we're called to be that type of people. Come on, some of us are looking for breakthroughs in the wilderness, and God wants you to know today your breakthrough's gonna come through doing goodness. Come on from forgiving that person that just feels like there's a personal attack by doing good to them, by treating them well, by treating your boss well when he's just being a jerk. But you're just, okay. I'm gonna treat him well. I'm gonna represent Jesus. I'm gonna reveal who Jesus is. Come on. That family member that keeps irritating you over and over again feels like they don't deserve goodness. No. I'm gonna extend goodness.”

#KnownForGoodness
“And it was this moment of going, God, help us. Help us stand where we need to stand, but, Lord, help us to be known for our goodness. Help us to be known for our good deeds. God, help us to be known for what you wanna do through us. God, help us to be known for the light that can penetrate the darkness. God, help us to be known for our community work. Help us to be known for loving our neighbor. Help us to be known for people that reach the unreachable. God, help us to be known that people that are not wrapped up in our own grievances, but we're standing for God's goodness. Help us to be big people that take territory for your kingdom. God, help us.”

#DrawnByHisSpirit
“Now one of the incredible things that the Holy Spirit does is that he convicts us when we're not right with God. He convicts us when we're not walking with God. And the incredible thing about our God is that he draws us to himself through his Holy Spirit. He draws us into relationship. He he draws us with his love. He just loves us that much. He wants all of us to know the wonder and the goodness of what it is to walk with him. And Jesus came and died on the cross and then rose again so that we could know the wonder of a personal God, a God that overcomes in our life. For we don't need to walk this life on our own, but we have a God who is victorious, a God that sets us free from our sin, a God that sets us free from our wrongs, a God that brings victory into our life, that reveals his love towards us, that we are not alone, but we are children of the living God. And I know that there is people in this room right now. There's people joining us online.”

#SpiritReveals
“is how the Holy Spirit is there to also we we get to meditate on the word of God, but the Holy Spirit is there to reveal who the father is. God's presence, it brings this uh-huh moment in our spirit where it clicks about the nature of who our God is. It literally causes our spirit to register to go, uh-huh. I get it. you're with me. God, your love is greater.”

#GraspHisCharacter
“Okay? That's the revelation that I want to bring to life in your spirit. I wanna reveal who I am in a deeper way. And when the Holy Spirit comes, he just drops those moments. This is one of the prayers I've been praying lately to God. God, in different areas of his character, God, help that to click. That verse that we read out before in Ephesians, it says to grasp. That word grasp means to fully know. It's the moment. And if you're saying today, you know what? I just I need an moment. I need an moment around certain characteristics of who God is.”

#AnointedIntoTheWilderness
“Jonathan, the king's son, becomes his best friend, loves him, and says to him, you will be king one day. I will be seeking in command. Everything is looking good for David until the king, the current king's jealousy starts to take over. And he tries to kill David. He ends up chasing him, and David has to run for his life. And this isn't just a casual suggestion of I wanna kill you. This is sending 3,000 of his top men to kill David. And David ends up running into the wilderness. 400 men end up joining him. Men were discontented, distressed, and indebted, the bible says. And David and his men end up running in the wilderness for approximately seven to eight to ten years. Seven to ten years in the wilderness. Once you've been anointed to be king, once the crown has been promised, yet he's sent into the wilderness.”

#WildernessIsPurposeful
“And pastor Craig spoke such an incredible message last week. If you haven't listened to yet, I really encourage you to. But he spoke about how in God, a wilderness is never meaningless. And all through scripture, we see our people having desert seasons, wilderness seasons. Moses discovered that he was the god that wanted to move through him in the in the desert. Israel discovered god as the provider in the desert. Hagar, as we heard last week, discovered the God who saw her in the desert. Jesus was tested and then empowered through the desert. But today, we're gonna focus on David and his wilderness experience.”

#KnownForWhatWeAreFor
“But then we said to them, what is it that we can do for you? And and they said, just keep doing what you're doing. Honestly, we feel like sometimes what difference are we making? But we look at the church, the collective church, and what God is doing through his church. And it's amazing the good works, the transformation that's happening in people's lives. It's incredible seeing the good deeds that are taking place. But then they also said, here's the thing though. People know you for what you're against. All through our parliament, people know Christians for what they're against. He said, you've got a they said you've got a lot of work to do to be known for what you are for.”

#UnexpectedAnointing
“Everyone say amen. Amen. We're ready? Let's go. So David is just a shepherd boy. That's how we we start out hearing him in in the bible. He's probably around 15 to 16 years old, the youngest in his family. And king Saul who was reigning at the time has disobeyed god, will not listen. So god says, that's it. I'm preparing a new king, a king that is after my own heart. And so he tells the prophet Samuel to anoint a new king, one of Jesse's sons. So Jesse brings seven of his sons before Samuel, and he misses David. And, you know, it makes sense when you have eight sons to miss one. Before appear before we're parents, we can be judging of those kind of moments. But once you become a parent, you're like, I respect that. I get that one son was missed.”
39s
#ObedienceFirst
“See, just because there is opportunity doesn't mean it's obedience. And David's pursuit was obedience first and foremost. It meant he didn't succumb to the temptation that an opportunity provided. It meant he didn't live entitled. It wasn't about his honor, about what I want, about what I deserve. No, god. It is all about your honor. So here's the thing. The promise cannot become the prize.”

#TrustGodsTiming
“Character that would make him king, character that would sustain him for the position that God had for him with the pressure of that moment, sir, form something of strength and sustenance in his character. See, the cave wasn't punishment. It was preparation. The cave was where David had to trust God's timing over his timing. And, man, we struggle with that today. Now when we want something delivered, we track that delivery. We, like, we deliver something, and then we're on it. We know the tracking. We know if it's been sent from the warehouse. Does anyone else do that? You follow it the whole way? We live in a world today where we track the deliverable, but we can't do that in God. We actually have to step back and trust his timing, that he is the god that sees the big picture and can be trusted. The cave was where praise became priority because it brought the presence of god.”
37s
#ChooseGoodness
“What a powerful piece of scripture. David could have so easily chosen resentment, entitlement. I deserve this. I should take this. I should take this moment. The king does not deserve my goodness. He could have chosen to be in personal grievance, but instead, he chose goodness. He chose to do good to soul, to honor him, to humble himself before, to love him. He chose goodness when he could have held onto his grievance. And you know what? We all have the same choice today.”
33s
#DwellOnHisCharacter
“And the last thing at the team can join me, please, is when the promise takes its time is we've gotta dwell on God's character rather than the circumstance. The Psalms are full of the decision that David made to dwell on God's character in the middle of untold circumstances. When it felt like literally death was at his door, he chose to focus on God's character.”
24s
#FreshOilSeason
“There's a parable of the 10 bridesmaids that were waiting for the for the groom, which is a picture of us as the church. And what did they have to wait with? They had to wait with oil. There is fresh oil that God wants to give us in this season of waiting. Come on. We're in this year of fresh oil. There is oil that God wants to give us in the waiting.”
48s
#OpportunityVsObedience
“That opportunity to step into that relationship that manages look so good. It means I won't be lonely anymore. It means, you know, all the desires in my heart will be fulfilled. I'm sick of waiting, God, for someone who actually loves God. But we know to take that opportunity is not obedience. The opportunity to buy a house. Man, we wanna get that house and we can see the the plant is saved and how we could get there, but it means not giving our tithe. Again, there's opportunity, but it means we're not walking in obedience to what God has asked.”
