69s
“God promised us that no weapon formed against us will prosper, but it's not licensed to just go pick a fight. He doesn't promise to deliver us from conflict. He does promise to deliver us through it. And so the question I have for you is, is there battle in front of you this morning? Is there a conflict in front of you that you don't see a way out? In the midst of that, what are you afraid of? God is still on his throne. And if we believe that, we truly believe that, we don't have to be afraid to do what he asks us to do because he will make a way through. Will you trust him and obey him? Because he will lead you through it.”

“We need to look at this lesson closely. Today, we arrived at a text about toppling idols, and the truth is that in our culture, in our country, we do have an idol that we like to celebrate and often defend. As a country born in rebellion, we have a tendency to idolize the rebel spirit, don't we? The rebel spirit is cool. It's trendy to be a rule breaker, to flip the bird to the authority. As we talk about what it looks like to live in a culture and not be corrupted by its way of thinking, we have to acknowledge that this is one of the ways that our culture has affected us. One of the things that we need to discuss is we do all have little problem with authority, don't we? Submission does not come naturally to us.”

“We don't wanna be led. We don't wanna be taught and challenged. We want to sit back and hear our thoughts come out of someone else's mouth. That's what we want. We are quick to criticize, demean, and throw leaders under the bus, but really this is not the way of god. This wasn't the way and the example we see in Daniel. It's not the way of the exile. If anyone has a reason to criticize and demean a leader, it's Daniel. Right? You think your leaders are bad. You don't have to work for that guy. Right? We've really got no reason to complain when we see what Daniel had to go through. Even Paul. Right? We just read the book of Romans. Romans was written to the church in Rome who were currently being fed to animals in the coliseum, and he said, submit to authorities. Respect and honor the authorities over you. If you think you have a reason to rebel, look at these two.”
42s
“We should be the best citizens wherever we are, no matter where we reside. Servant hearted, gracious to a fault, respectful and honoring in every situation, generous with what we have. But, unfortunately, that's not really the reputation that Christians have in our society. We more often are the first to complain, the first to rebel when a leader makes a decision that we don't agree with. My friends, it shouldn't be so. It's the way of the world to thumb your nose at authority, but it should not be so among the people of god.”
