#JesusIsTheLight
“That word for grasp in Greek is the word keteleben, and it has the idea both of grasping with the hand, physically or having power, as well as grasping with the mind, being able to understand it. And so this verse is saying that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness could not stop it, could not overpower it, cannot understand it. That the light shines and the darkness cannot stop it. Jesus is the light of the world. The light that the darkness cannot grasp or overcome or ever stop.”

#GodsFamily
“The Bible opens with Adam and Eve in perfect union with God. Because of sin and the attack of Satan, there is death and distance and pain. Then, all the way at the end, we see the marriage supper of the lamb, the new heaven, the new earth, all things made new. God gets his family back. And Jesus says that when you receive him, when you believe in his name, he adopts you into his family. He gives you the rights of sonship, and that changes everything.”

#JesusIncarnation
“That that holiness, that power, the manifest presence of God put on skin and bones. Here's why the Greeks would have been stunned. Because in Greek thought, you can see this when you study philosophy, they thought the spirit was good and the flesh was bad. That the mind and the will were virtuous, but the body was bad. And so the fact that the God of the universe would take on flesh and blood, skin and bones, it would have stunned them to imagine such a thing. But that's exactly what Jesus did.”

#LightInTheDarkness
“So right now, invite you to ask, to think about your own life. Areas that there might be darkness in your own life. And what would it look like to shine the light of Jesus into those areas? Maybe it's a big dramatic thing or maybe it's something more ordinary and you've just gotten used to it. But what would it look like to take that verse and truly believe that verse? If the light shines in the darkness and the darkness could not grasp it, could not understand it, could not overpower it. The light shines and the darkness doesn't stand a chance.”

#ComeAndSee
“We're always gonna have more questions, and Jesus is saying, come and see. Maybe you're talking to a friend who doesn't know Jesus, who's never been to church, and he's like, what's it gonna be like? Respond like Jesus said, come and see. And Jesus says to all of us, follow me. Maybe today, you're gonna make that decision to follow him for the very first time. Maybe you've been following Jesus for years. For all of us, this call, to follow him is a daily call, a daily decision.”

#GodsPresence
“Or maybe think about it this way. How would your actions and your attitude look different this week while you're at work if Jesus in the flesh was sitting right next to you as you were at your desk? If he was right there at your lunch table. Because we see in scripture that he is omnipresent, he is everywhere. So he is there. Often we just lose the awareness of it and we forget about that. But with that in mind of thinking, would my actions, my attitude, my responses look different with the awareness of Jesus right here with me right now?”

#WalkWithJesus
“Maybe there'd be someone that he would call you to encourage. Maybe you'd feel a little bit convicted about holding your tongue. Maybe you'd stand up and not allow those jokes to be said that you used to tolerate. Maybe improve your joy and your passion, realizing that the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords is with you and promises to never leave you or forsake you.”

#FollowJesus
“So now point three is, will you follow Jesus? How will you respond? Will you follow Jesus? As chapter one goes on, if you were to read this whole chapter, we see Jesus go on, to call the disciples, to walk up to them and say, follow me. They ask questions, and he doesn't respond to the questions directly. He says, come and see. Come and see. Follow me. This is the call of Jesus, and it's the call for you and I today.”
