God starts with the question that has to come first: “Who is God? Who is Christ? And who am I?” God cannot be understood by putting man at the center. The difference between “who are you?” and “who am I?” is the difference between pride and getting things right. God is God, and people are not.
Biblical illiteracy leaves the church in the dark. Scripture is not something that can be picked up for thirty minutes and then put back down until next Sunday. The Word has to be read, checked, studied, and compared, because darkness is simply the absence of light. Christ calls His people the light of the world, and darkness grows when that light is not being shined.
Genesis declares that God created the heavens and the earth. God said, and it was. God does not need permission from science, culture, education, or human opinion to be true. Job shows the gap between the infinite Creator and finite people: God laid the earth’s foundations, and no human being was there to tell Him how it happened. God names Himself “I AM,” because yesterday, today, and tomorrow are all present before Him.
Ecclesiastes calls everything apart from God meaningless. Things, success, Super Bowls, pretty little things, drugs, alcohol, and another win cannot fulfill a soul made for God. God alone fulfills. God will bring every hidden thing into judgment, and the right conclusion is to fear God and keep His commandments.
John identifies Christ as the Word who was with God, was God, and made all things. Christ is not merely part of the Bible’s story. Christ is the center of it, from Genesis to Revelation, or “Genesis to Maps.” Angels, Simeon, the Magi, John the Baptist, Samaritans, disciples, demons, and God the Father all testify that Jesus is the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the Savior, and the King.
Christ says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Christ leaves no other way to the Father, no competing truth, and no life outside of Himself. Sin leaves every person dead, condemned, and unable to earn salvation. God makes dead people alive through grace, through faith, in Christ alone.
God calls those made alive in Christ His handiwork, His masterpiece. Christ does not leave His people as they are. The Holy Spirit seals, teaches, reminds, and gives peace until the day of redemption. God’s final answer is plain: God is “I AM,” Christ is “I AM,” and the redeemed are His children and His masterpiece.

Key Takeaways
- 1. God is God, people are not God’s “I AM” does not need human approval, explanation, or vote. Human knowledge is finite, even when it carries degrees, titles, and confidence. Job’s question still stands: where was man when God laid the earth’s foundation? [51:18]
- 2. Darkness grows where light stays hidden Christ names His people the light of the world, so darkness is not merely an outside problem. Biblical illiteracy weakens the church’s ability to shine because people cannot faithfully carry what they do not know. God’s Word has to be read until it becomes more than somebody else’s opinion. [31:06]
- 3. Jesus is the Word of God John does not present Christ as an add-on to Scripture. Christ stands at the beginning of creation, enters flesh in grace and truth, and returns as the Word of God. Scripture comes alive because it testifies to Jesus from beginning to end. [60:09]
- 4. Grace makes dead people alive Sin does not leave people merely struggling or needing improvement. Sin leaves people dead, deserving wrath, and unable to save themselves by being “good enough.” God’s mercy makes people alive in Christ, and grace gives what works can never earn. [77:50]
- 5. God calls His children masterpieces God’s masterpiece is not a reason for pride, because God is still working on His people. God loves people as they are, yet loves them too much to leave them as they are. The Holy Spirit seals that work and carries it toward redemption.
