Who Do You Say Jesus Is?
Summary
In today's reflection, we explored the profound question Jesus posed to His disciples: "Who do you say that I am?" This question, found in Matthew 16, is not just a historical inquiry but a personal challenge to each of us today. As we approach the remembrance of Christ's crucifixion, understanding who Jesus truly is becomes paramount. Jesus asked this question in the district of Caesarea Philippi, a place known for its beauty but also for its pagan worship. It was here, amidst the backdrop of idol worship, that Jesus chose to reveal His true identity to His disciples.
The responses to Jesus' question varied. Some thought He was John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or another prophet. These were all great men of God, but they fell short of recognizing Jesus' true nature. Peter, however, declared, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." This confession was not just a statement of belief but a revelation from God, affirming Jesus as the Messiah, the anointed one prophesied in the scriptures.
This question, "Who do you say that I am?" is not just for the disciples of old but for us today. It challenges us to move beyond popular opinions and personal assumptions to a personal encounter with the true Jesus of the Bible. Many may admire Jesus for His teachings or moral example, but to truly know Him is to recognize Him as the Son of God, the Savior of the world. This recognition is not just intellectual but transformative, impacting how we live and relate to God.
As we ponder this question, we are reminded that our response determines our eternal destiny. Jesus' victory over death is our victory if we believe in Him. Therefore, this question demands a personal answer, one that shapes our lives and aligns us with God's purpose. Let us seek to know Jesus more deeply, allowing His identity to transform our hearts and guide our lives.

Day 1: Personal Revelation is Key to Knowing Jesus
Understanding who Jesus is requires more than just intellectual knowledge; it requires a personal revelation from God. Like Peter, who declared Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God, we must seek a deeper understanding that comes from a relationship with Christ, not just from human teachings. This revelation is transformative, impacting how we live and relate to God. It is a call to move beyond popular opinions and personal assumptions to a personal encounter with the true Jesus of the Bible. [01:17:29]
Ephesians 1:17-18 (ESV): "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints."
Reflection: In what ways can you seek a deeper revelation of Jesus in your daily life, beyond what you have learned from others?
Day 2: Misunderstanding Jesus is a Common Challenge
Many people admire Jesus for His teachings or moral example, but they may not truly know Him as the Son of God. It is possible to be sincere yet sincerely wrong about who Jesus is, which underscores the importance of seeking the true Jesus of the Bible. This challenge invites us to examine our own understanding and to ensure that it aligns with the biblical revelation of Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. [01:15:01]
2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (ESV): "But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough."
Reflection: Reflect on your current understanding of Jesus. Are there any misconceptions you need to address to align with the biblical truth?
Day 3: Jesus' Identity is Central to Our Faith
Jesus' identity as the Messiah and the Son of God is central to our faith. This identity was the reason for His crucifixion and is the foundation of our salvation. Colossians 1:15-17 (ESV): "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together."

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Quotes
"Who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the son of the living God." We commit to you Lord our time to listen to the message Lord that you have prepared for us again we pray that you will touch people's heart today Lord from your word and bless them Lord in Jesus name. [01:00:35]
Who do you say that I am a question asked by Jesus to his disciples and therefore to all who follows him even today and I believe this is also a fitting question since a couple of weeks from now we will be remembering the crucifixion of Christ on the cross of Calvary. [01:01:27]
I think you will never appreciate the cross unless you have a full understanding of who Christ is so now let's go to our text and let's try to unpack Our text for today it says here that Jesus brings his disciple to the district of Cesaria Cesaria Philippi. [01:02:18]
Now first Jesus asked his disciples what other people say about him the exact question is in verse 13 who do people say that the son of man is now at this time Jesus is entering into a critical point in his ministry from then on he was to start revealing himself to his disciples. [01:08:26]
The common people has embraced him he was he was been preaching for many months already and they have seen his miracles and heard his teaching and the word has spread from village to village have you heard about this man Jesus and so he is part now of every conversation and people were wondering who he really is. [01:08:26]
On the other hand the religious leaders of that time was threatened by the growing fame of Jesus and they were baffled by the things that he was he had been performing and so he they accused him of doing these things by the power of Belibu or the prince of the demons and indeed there were different reactions and opinions among people who came in contact with Jesus. [01:10:49]
He inspires devotion as some become his loyal followers but to others he inspires fear aruck by the miracles he performs they recoil some in some of his hard teachings but he also inspires hatred to some especially in the latter part of Jesus' life that they want to to they want to kill him. [01:10:49]
There are two points to note first many people love Jesus even though they do not really know him personally and secondly it is quite possible even with a very sincere heart to misunderstand who Jesus is i mean it is possible for a person to believe in Jesus some people really believe in Jesus they like Jesus they love Jesus. [01:15:01]
They want to you know to elevate him like uh because they know uh uh he's he is a great man but they really do not know the true Jesus of the Bible they were sincere sincere but they were sincerely wrong about who Jesus is example you know the Christian calls they like to worship Jesus also they would like to be followers of Jesus. [01:15:01]
Peter answered always the spokesman of the 12 and I think he was uh speaking from the bottom of his heart okay and this was the greatest affirmation that Peter did on Jesus he said "You are the Christ the son of the living God." Yep you got it right i think Jesus could have said that but uh he said that in another way. [01:16:43]
Peter confession does two more things it identifies Jesus as the Messiah where the word Christ comes from you know it means uh the anointed one so when you say Jesus Christ you are saying Jesus the Messiah he is divine and Peter was declaring that there this is no mere prophet or teacher this is the long awaited anointed one who was prophesied about so long ago. [01:18:17]
The word of God in fact shows that he is what he says he was the fruit the proof is you know and we will be celebrating uh this couple of Sundays um today that he was victorious over death he they killed him but he rose up again on the third day victorious over death and his death his his victory over death is also our victory if we believed in him.
