Day 1: Confessing Christ in the Shadow of False Gods

Jesus stood before temples of pagan deities when Peter declared Him the Son of God. In a place symbolizing spiritual darkness, Peter’s confession became a beacon of divine truth. Caesarea Philippi’s cliffs housed shrines to false gods, yet Christ’s identity shone brighter. This moment reveals that true faith isn’t shaped by culture but by revelation. Our confession of Christ matters most where lies seem strongest. The world still offers competing answers, but only Jesus is the living God. [33:11]

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:13–16, ESV)

Gates of hell—symbols of death and evil—cannot overpower those rooted in Him. Our mission thrives not by adapting to culture but by clinging to the Rock. [55:12]

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18, ESV)

Day 5: Losing Your Life to Find It

Following Jesus costs everything—but refusing Him costs more. Surrender isn’t passive resignation; it’s active trust in the One who exchanges our brokenness for His purpose. The cross we carry is both death to self and doorway to life. What the world calls loss, Christ calls victory. [01:02:21]

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:24–25, ESV)

Matthew 16 brings the whole thing down to one simple line. Jesus takes his disciples to Caesarea Philippi, a dark, pagan place full of false gods, temples, and idols, and asks, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” Jesus already knows the answer, but the question pulls the opinions of the crowd out into the open.
