God stands above every situation, every habit, every feeling, and every excuse. Second Samuel says, “How great you are, sovereign Lord,” because there is nobody like Him and no god beside Him. The mind has to get saturated with that truth, not just the emotions stirred up for a minute. Life be lifing, bills be due, bodies get sick, people walk off, and loneliness can hit hard, but God is still God all by Himself.
The flesh, soul, and spirit pull in different directions. The flesh wants what it wants, the soul feels what it feels, and the spirit was made to worship. The subconscious can turn repeated choices into habits, addictions, and patterns that feel hard to break. But the spirit man has to tell the soul, “Straighten up,” and tell the flesh, “You are not my god.” Conviction by itself can make somebody feel bad, but conversion keeps somebody from going inside the door.
God does not force anybody to let go of liquor, drugs, sexual sin, bitterness, or any other “it.” God says, “I can’t take nothing that you won’t let go.” The call is to fight through it, get back up, and praise God anyway. Praise cannot depend on feeling worthy, because God’s worth does not rise and fall with human behavior. Praise belongs to Him not because life is easy, but in spite of what hurts.
First Kings declares that there is no God like Him in heaven or earth, and First Samuel says there is no one holy like the Lord. God is incomparable, stands alone in creation, has no equal, does what nobody else can do, knows the end from the beginning, shows His power through His people, and deserves exclusive worship. Human greatness fades, but God stays on the throne.
Job proves that worship is not supposed to be a transaction. Job blessed God with cattle, children, wealth, and comfort, but Job also blessed God when everything got stripped away. The devil may touch circumstances, but God sets the limit and says, “Stop right there.” God looks for people who will not leave Him when stuff leaves them. Worship, gratitude, obedience, and celebrating somebody else’s blessing show that God Himself matters more than the leftovers on the table.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Praise Him in spite of it [30:59] Praise cannot be built only on healing, money, open doors, or good news. God remains worthy when the body hurts, the bank account is low, and people disappoint. The soul may be crying, but the spirit can still say, “Hallelujah.” That kind of praise refuses to make God’s goodness depend on present comfort. [30:59]
- 2. Your flesh is not your god [45:12] The flesh remembers old appetites even after years of walking with Christ. Conversion does not mean temptation never shows up; conversion means temptation does not get the final answer. The spirit man must tell the soul what road it is not taking tonight. Worship becomes real when the flesh is no longer allowed to sit on the throne. [45:12]
- 3. God cannot take what stays held [41:45] God does not force a person to release the habit, relationship, substance, or secret sin that the heart keeps protecting. Surrender requires an honest willingness to let go, even when the flesh wants another puff, another drink, or another look. The struggle is not proof that God has left; refusing to surrender is the deeper danger. God gives strength for the release that a person chooses. [41:45]
- 4. Job worshiped after losing everything [01:06:28] Job’s worship exposed the devil’s lie that people only serve God for blessings. Loss revealed that Job valued God more than cattle, children, riches, and comfort. The devil was limited even in his attack, because God never surrendered Job’s life to him. Faith grows deep when God remains blessed in the middle of what cannot be explained. [66:28]
- 5. Celebrate blessings on somebody else [01:10:21] Jealousy turns another person’s testimony into a reason to complain, but gratitude learns to celebrate what God gives somebody else. A right attitude can rejoice over another person’s car, house, job, or favor while still waiting on God. God is not short on blessing, and another person’s increase does not cancel His care. Celebration trains the heart to trust God without bitterness.
