#HeartAndWords
“Whatever it may be, we have to first understand that our words come from our hearts, and our hearts show us who and what you and I really worship. Our hearts show us what we really put into our faith, and what's coming from our hearts is showing what our faith is all about. Our hearts are the root of all of our actions, especially with what we say. So to understand your words, my encouragement for you is to look at your heart. And if you're someone who needs to address what you say, it's not simply something you can do just by sheer willpower or just watching your words. We need to address it with our hearts first.”

#LoveGodLovePeople
“Jesus said the two greatest commandments are to love God with everything you have and to love your neighbor as yourself. And what James does here is he reminds us that these are not two separate commands. They are both one and the same. They are two sides of the same coin. We can't praise God and hate our neighbor. We show we love God by the way by the way we love those around us, that especially includes our words.”

#WordsMatter
“Listen, we are in a time in our culture that our words are so important right now. There is so much hate and division and brokenness that we see every day that the world is watching for the words of the church. People are watching what you say. They are listening to what you say. They are impacted by what you say. So when you speak, do your words show that Jesus is on the throne of your heart, or does it show something else?”

#HeartOverWords
“The words show what's in your heart. And this is what makes our words, I think, a little more uncomfortable because they are a reflection. They are evidence of truly what's taking place inside of us, inside of our hearts. If you're someone who lashes out with anger with your words, you don't have a language problem. You have a heart problem. There's something in your heart that's producing this fruit of anger. Maybe it's a desire for control that you don't have. Maybe it's from a previous hurt that you never dealt with. But when anger is the one controlling you and leading to the words that you say, this is evidence of a heart issue, not a word issue.”

#FaithInAction
“And now we start to see what James is getting at here. Now we're starting to see how our words connect to our faith in following Jesus. James says that we can praise god with our words and then curse our fellow human beings as well. That we'll praise God, that we'll thank God, we'll sing to God, we'll pray to God, and tell others we believe in God. And then we'll talk about how much we hate this person or that person or that people group or how the people who go this way or that way are the worst.”

#SpeakLife
“Our words should be ones of love and grace and truth. It should look to unite the church together, not divide it. It should be to build up those around us. It should be words that equip and words that show the good news of Jesus to our loved ones and our neighbors and our friends and and everybody else we come across. Our words should build up our children and point them to Jesus. Our words should be words of love and honor and respect with our spouses. Our words should give compliments and encouragement and point people to the truth of Jesus to each other.”

#ConfessionAndRepentance
“Take this to Jesus. It can start simply with confession. Going to God and to the people that you've hurt with your words and confessing to them that you now see how your words have impacted them. And listen, this is a hard thing to do. Confession is not comfortable, but it is healing. We can start with confession, and that will lead us to something even more vital, that's repentance.”

#ThinkBeforeYouSpeak
“And I think we need to remind ourselves of this because when we say something good or bad, we can't get them back. It's when James is reminding us that salt and fresh water can't come from the same place. We can't claim to follow Jesus and then our words represent destruction. When we say them, they're gone. Remember that. Be reminded of that.”
