Christ has not promised a trouble-free earth life, but Christ has overcome the world, and the enemy does not get to determine the outcome. Second Corinthians puts the whole thing in the right frame. The outward man may be perishing, but the inward man is being renewed day by day, and the light affliction is temporary while the unseen realm is eternal.

Faith looks at what cannot yet be seen and pulls on what God has already said. Elijah kept saying, “Look again,” until the little cloud showed up, because the abundance of rain was already alive on the inside before it showed up on the outside. The same spirit of faith that was in Caleb, Joshua, David, and Christ is in the believer, so trouble is not the time to whine, complain, or murmur. Trouble is the time to preach, sing psalms, stir up joy, and declare that God is able.
