Walking a Memorable Journey with Christ

Summary

In reflecting on the journey of life, it's clear that what we remember most are not the mundane details but the meaningful experiences and relationships that shape us. This is true in our spiritual journey as well. Life is often compared to a journey, and how we walk this journey can vary greatly. Some walk with enthusiasm and joy, while others drag their feet, lacking excitement and purpose. The question arises: how do we walk our spiritual journey with Jesus? Is it marked by passion and transformation, or is it overshadowed by worldly distractions?

To cultivate a Christian walk that is truly memorable, we must embrace four key characteristics. First, our walk should take scriptural truths to heart. It's not enough to know the facts about Jesus' death and resurrection; these truths must penetrate our hearts and transform our lives. The journey from head knowledge to heart knowledge is crucial for a vibrant faith.

Second, we must study the Scriptures for ourselves. The excitement of our Christian walk cannot rely solely on emotional experiences. Instead, it should be grounded in the diligent study of God's Word, which matures our faith and fuels our spiritual growth. Engaging with the Bible personally allows us to encounter God in a profound way.

Third, our walk should invite Christ to stay with us. It's essential to have Jesus as an active part of our lives, not just during difficult times but consistently. Inviting Christ to abide with us brings peace, purpose, and joy to our journey. We must ensure that He is an integral part of our daily lives, not just a distant figure.

Finally, a walk to remember is one that excitedly proclaims the risen Savior. The resurrection of Jesus is not just a historical fact; it's a life-changing reality that should be shared with others. We are called to be influencers, sharing the unexpected and transformative news of the risen Savior with the world.

As we celebrate Easter, let us commit to a Christian walk that is worth remembering. May our journey be marked by a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus, characterized by taking scriptural truths to heart, studying the Scriptures, inviting Christ to stay with us, and proclaiming the risen Savior with excitement and joy.

Day 1: Transforming Head Knowledge to Heart Knowledge
In our spiritual journey, it's not enough to merely know the facts about Jesus' death and resurrection. These truths must penetrate our hearts and transform our lives. The journey from head knowledge to heart knowledge is crucial for a vibrant faith. This transformation involves allowing the truths of Scripture to deeply impact our emotions, decisions, and actions. When we internalize these truths, they become the foundation of our faith, guiding us in our daily walk with Christ. [11:53]

"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth." (Ephesians 3:14-18, ESV)

Reflection: Think of a scriptural truth that you know well but have not fully embraced in your heart. How can you allow this truth to transform your actions and decisions today?

Day 2: Grounding Faith in Scripture
A meaningful Christian walk requires more than emotional experiences; it must be grounded in the diligent study of God's Word. Engaging with the Bible personally allows us to encounter God in a profound way, maturing our faith and fueling our spiritual growth. By studying the Scriptures for ourselves, we gain a deeper understanding of God's character and His will for our lives. This personal engagement with the Bible strengthens our faith and equips us to face life's challenges with confidence. [14:35]

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17, ESV)

Reflection: Identify a specific passage of Scripture that you have not studied deeply. How can you set aside time this week to study and meditate on this passage?

Day 4: Proclaiming the Risen Savior
The resurrection of Jesus is not just a historical fact; it's a life-changing reality that should be shared with others. We are called to be influencers, sharing the unexpected and transformative news of the risen Savior with the world. Proclaiming the risen Savior with excitement is a hallmark of a memorable Christian walk. This proclamation is not only a declaration of faith but also an invitation for others to experience the transformative power of the resurrection. [31:37]

"But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead." (1 Corinthians 15:20-21, ESV)

Quotes

My friends, when it comes to spiritual things or your walk with Jesus, do you simply go through the motions? Do you have to drag yourself to church? Do spiritual milestones and learnings mark or change your life in any way? Does the knowledge that you serve a living, risen Savior bring joy to your life? [00:02:50] (21 seconds)

If there isn't much excitement or notable things in your journey through the Christian life, then I want to introduce to you four things that should characterize your Christian walk that will hopefully bring passion, excitement, and great memories. Because I desire that your Christian walk with Jesus is indeed a walk to remember. [00:03:21] (20 seconds)

The Bible tells us the two disciples told the resurrected Jesus the talk of the town. Surprisingly, they seemed to know a lot about what had happened to Jesus. They knew of the powerful words and deeds of Jesus' earthly ministry. They knew of his death through crucifixion. They even knew Jesus' assurance that he would rise from the dead in three days, and that today, Sunday, was the third day. [00:08:26] (27 seconds)

The facts in their minds didn't somehow make it to their hearts, so whatever the facts on the ground, it was not real for them, and therefore, it elicited no life change. They were sad and frustrated. There was no excitement in their walk. That's why it's imperative to understand that a walk to remember is, number one, a walk that takes scriptural truths to heart. [00:10:00] (25 seconds)

The Lord knew that the excitement of our Christian walk cannot be based solely on experience, because if it were so, then we would only look for bigger and better emotional hits and supernatural experiences to get us excited. And this is impossible to sustain. My friends, the joy of our Christian walk must come from the studying of God's Word ourselves, which help us mature in the faith. [00:15:20] (25 seconds)

There is no better an Easter commitment today than a commitment to study daily the Scriptures for yourself. Notice, I didn't say read the Bible, but use the word study. Many read mindlessly, but don't have any desire to study God's Word. A British pastor shared this story. Not far from our home was the lamppost under which 14-year-old lad Bob Flint received Christ. [00:16:41] (29 seconds)

The Bible tells us when they arrived at Emmaus, and it seemed that Jesus was going further, they showed how much they loved listening to Jesus and appreciated His company, that they requested, even begged Jesus to abide with them. Abide is the idea of living, remaining, and staying with them. And when the invitation to Christ to stay with them came, notice that Jesus did not refuse when invited to come and stay. [00:22:59] (28 seconds)

Sadly, many are walking the journey of the Christian life without inviting Christ along, which is why their Christian life is so miserable, so lonely, so without excitement. These are people who claim they are Christians, but don't find the need to go to church regularly or to be a part of a Christian community. They don't read the Bible or pray to the Lord regularly. They choose not to live life as a Christ follower. [00:24:38] (26 seconds)

So it is in our Christian walk through life. Many of us have forgotten the most essential part of life's journey, and that's inviting Christ to come along with us. With Him on the journey, we are guaranteed to have peace, protection, pleasure, and purpose. Why in the world would we not invite Christ in our life's walk? [00:26:19] (23 seconds)

Notice verse 32 where it tells us that their hearts were burning within them. Remember, they were sad and hopeless when the Lord met them. But while He was teaching them from the Scriptures, their sadness turned into a fire in the soul, meaning they were comforted, encouraged, challenged, and convicted. This is certainly what Jesus does for us when we read His Word. [00:30:59] (26 seconds)

Their knowledge of the risen Savior could not be contained. Now, for these two disciples, the resurrection wasn't simply a fact, an intellectual understanding. That information made the 18-inch journey from their heads to their hearts. That information made the 18-inch journey from their heads to their hearts, and they could not contain themselves. [00:31:59] (19 seconds)

Things which stand out get the attention which is necessary for virality. By this definition, then the message of the risen Savior should be a viral message today that emotionally impacts the world. We're all called to be so-called tastemakers, called to be influencers as salt and light to this world whose community impact is far and wide. And we carry with us the most unexpected of news that someone rose from the dead. [00:33:48] (33 seconds)
