Vision begins with the question, “Why are there so many Christians here?” A little girl’s question after an arena full of people worshiped Jesus becomes a picture of what God can do in a city when somebody gets passionate, tells somebody else, builds the church, and keeps pouring. God’s heart for people is always to know him, but God’s will is not automatic because he has chosen to accomplish his will through ordinary people filled with his Spirit.
Proverbs 29 says that where there is no vision, people cast off restraint. Vision puts restraint back on because a clear hill is worth climbing. Hope calls for sacrifice, stretched habits, faith in the messy middle, and a refusal to complain through hard seasons. The next generation especially needs older believers who will not take the anointing into the ground, but will pour it into spiritual sons and daughters. Methods may change from generation to generation, but Jesus must remain the person everyone loves most.
Jesus asks Peter, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter’s declaration, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God,” becomes the foundation for everything that follows. Jesus is not one helpful life option among many. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. A church cannot become a cultural club built on life hacks and still make a dent in a city. Jesus alone frees people from their past, gives eternal hope, and brings abundant life now.
Jesus then says, “I will build my church,” and he says it in Caesarea Philippi, surrounded by pagan temples and false gods. Jesus intentionally announces his church in a place far from God. That setting gives courage to a church in Western Canada: an anti-Jesus climate does not disqualify a city from a move of God. The disciples themselves begin afraid and unable, yet Christ fills them with his Spirit and sends them out as courageous missionaries. God still takes ordinary people and makes them building blocks of his church.
Second Kings 4 gives the final picture: God multiplies what gets poured. The widow has “nothing at all, except a small jar of olive oil,” and the miracle happens when she starts pouring what seems too small. Time, talent, finances, prayer, serving, and faith may all feel insufficient, but God does not wait for enough before multiplying it. Three services, room for new people, investment in young adults, and the Resonate Center vision all become jars waiting for God to fill. The future hope remains simple: children in this city may one day ask, “Daddy, why are there so many Christians here?”

Key Takeaways
- 1. Passion for Jesus comes first. Jesus cannot be reduced to a good man, a religious option, or a source of better life advice. Peter’s confession names him as Messiah and Son of the living God, and that confession still brings clarity in a culture that resists exclusive claims about Christ. Passion grows when Jesus becomes more than an idea and remains the center of everything. [47:49]
- 2. The next generation needs poured-out anointing. The anointing on one generation is not meant to go into the grave. Spiritual fathers and mothers carry a responsibility to celebrate, empower, and release those coming behind them. Jesus matters more than preferred methods, styles, or familiar wineskins. [31:32]
- 3. Jesus builds his church in darkness. Caesarea Philippi was surrounded by temples to false gods when Jesus announced, “I will build my church.” A city far from God is not proof that the church should retreat. A city far from God is often the exact place where Christ chooses to establish a bold witness. [54:46]
- 4. God multiplies what gets poured. The widow’s little jar of oil looked like nothing until she began to pour it. Faith does not wait until time, money, strength, or gifting feels abundant enough. God meets surrendered insufficiency with multiplication that could not have been produced by human effort.
