Even when the winds of life's circumstances rise and the waves threaten to overwhelm, there is a presence that brings peace. The call is not to be ruled by fear but to anchor one's heart in a faith that believes in the power of Jesus to calm any storm. He is with you in the boat, and His authority extends over every turbulent situation you face. His command to the wind and waves is a promise for your own heart today. [43:03]
And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:37-39 (ESV)
Reflection: What is the specific "storm" in your life right now that causes you the most anxiety, and what would it look like to consciously speak Jesus' peace into that situation today?
For twelve long years, a woman suffered, spending all she had without finding relief. Her story teaches that faith is not a complex theological formula but a desperate, reaching hand. It is the simple, stubborn belief that even a touch of His garment is enough to release His healing power. This kind of faith acknowledges that all other resources are exhausted and He is the only hope. [47:22]
And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.”
Mark 5:25-28 (ESV)
Reflection: Where in your life have you been trying to solve a problem in your own strength, and what is one practical step you can take this week to reach out in simple, desperate faith to Jesus instead?
In the face of the worst possible news, the word of the Lord is a direct command to choose faith over fear. When the world says to stop bothering, to accept the situation as final, He invites you to a different perspective. He asks you to see with the eyes of faith, to believe that what seems dead to others is only sleeping in His presence. [52:58]
While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.”
Mark 5:35-36 (ESV)
Reflection: When you hear a negative report or a voice telling you to give up, what specific promise from God can you hold onto to actively choose belief over fear?
Not every voice deserves a place in the room where your faith is being tested. Jesus deliberately removed the crowd that was weeping and laughing in scorn, choosing only those who could partner in faith. Protecting your spirit from mockery and unbelief is not being rude; it is being wise. It is creating space for God to work without the noise of contradiction. [56:17]
And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was.
Mark 5:40 (ESV)
Reflection: Who are the few people in your life you can confidently share your God-given dreams with, knowing they will stand with you in faith and not in scorn?
His words carry creative, life-giving power. He speaks directly to situations that appear completely lifeless and commands them to rise. He is not limited by medical reports, financial statements, or the finality of broken relationships. The same voice that calmed the storm and healed the woman is speaking today, calling dead things in your life to live again. [59:18]
Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.
Mark 5:41-42 (ESV)
Reflection: What is one area in your life—a relationship, a dream, or a part of your heart—that feels lifeless, and how can you intentionally place it in the hands of Jesus, who commands it to arise?
