Vigilance Against Satan: Embracing God's Power and Truth
Summary
In today's message, we delved into the often-overlooked reality of Satan's influence in our lives. Many Christians live as though Satan is a mere myth, but the Bible warns us to be vigilant and self-controlled because our adversary prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to devour us. Satan's strategy is subtle; he wants us to ignore his presence and influence, making us vulnerable to his deceptions. We explored the story in Luke 11, where Jesus casts out a demon, and the Pharisees accuse Him of using Satan's power. Jesus refutes this by explaining that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, emphasizing that His power comes from God.
We also discussed the dangers of dabbling in occult practices, which can open doors to demonic influence. The Bible is clear in its condemnation of such practices, urging us to remain blameless and avoid anything that could lead us away from God. Satan often masquerades as an angel of light, making sin appear attractive and harmless. This deception can lead us to justify actions that are contrary to God's will.
Furthermore, we examined the false teachings that distort the nature of God, such as the belief that humans can become gods. These teachings undermine the eternal nature of God and the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice. As believers, we must be discerning and grounded in Scripture to recognize and reject these lies.
Finally, we emphasized the importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Just as a house must be occupied to prevent a demon from returning, our lives must be filled with God's presence to resist temptation. Regularly immersing ourselves in God's Word and prayer strengthens us against the enemy's attacks. We must continuously seek the Holy Spirit's guidance and power to live victoriously.

Day 1: Recognizing Satan's Subtle Influence
Satan's influence is often underestimated, yet the Bible warns us to be vigilant and self-controlled because our adversary prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to devour us. His strategy is subtle; he wants us to ignore his presence and influence, making us vulnerable to his deceptions. In Luke 11, Jesus casts out a demon, and the Pharisees accuse Him of using Satan's power. Jesus refutes this by explaining that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, emphasizing that His power comes from God. This passage reminds us of the reality of spiritual warfare and the need to be aware of Satan's tactics. [00:51]
1 Peter 5:8-9 (ESV): "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world."
Reflection: In what subtle ways might Satan be influencing your thoughts or actions today? How can you actively resist these deceptions and remain vigilant in your faith?
Day 2: Avoiding the Occult and Its Dangers
Engaging in occult practices, even out of curiosity, can open doors to demonic influence. The Bible is clear in its condemnation of such practices, urging us to remain blameless and avoid anything that could lead us away from God. Satan often masquerades as an angel of light, making sin appear attractive and harmless. This deception can lead us to justify actions that are contrary to God's will. It is crucial to recognize the dangers of the occult and to steer clear of anything that might compromise our spiritual integrity. [14:09]
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (ESV): "There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord."
Reflection: Are there any practices or beliefs in your life that might be opening doors to spiritual harm? How can you take steps to remove these influences and align more closely with God's will?
Day 3: Discerning False Teachings About God
False teachings can distort the nature of God, such as the belief that humans can become gods. These teachings undermine the eternal nature of God and the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice. As believers, we must be discerning and grounded in Scripture to recognize and reject these lies. It is essential to have a firm understanding of biblical truth to guard against teachings that lead us away from the true nature of God and His plan for salvation. [23:42]
2 Peter 2:1-2 (ESV): "But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed."
Reflection: What are some teachings or beliefs you have encountered that might distort the nature of God? How can you ensure that your understanding of God is rooted in Scripture?
Day 4: Being Filled with the Holy Spirit
Our lives must be filled with God's presence to resist temptation. Regularly immersing ourselves in God's Word and prayer strengthens us against the enemy's attacks. We must continuously seek the Holy Spirit's guidance and power to live victoriously. Just as a house must be occupied to prevent a demon from returning, our lives must be filled with God's presence to resist temptation. [34:42]
Ephesians 5:18-20 (ESV): "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Reflection: How can you intentionally create space in your daily routine to be filled with the Holy Spirit? What practices can you incorporate to ensure you are continually seeking His guidance and power?
Day 5: Choosing Sides in Spiritual Warfare
Jesus makes it clear that there is no neutral ground. We are either with Him or against Him. This decision is crucial, as it determines our eternal destiny. We must choose to follow Christ wholeheartedly, recognizing that our allegiance to Him is a daily commitment. This choice involves actively resisting the enemy and aligning our lives with God's will. [31:40]
Matthew 12:30 (ESV): "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters."
Reflection: In what areas of your life are you tempted to remain neutral or indecisive in your faith? How can you make a conscious decision to align yourself fully with Christ today?
Quotes
Most Christians don't live as though Satan was real. I'm willing to bet most of you didn't even think about Satan this week, and that's exactly the way Satan likes it. He wants you to assume like he has no influence in your life, but the truth is he's had tremendous influence in all of our lives. [00:36:52]
The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 it says be self-controlled and alert, your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking for someone to devour. The Bible says to be self-controlled and alert recognizing that there's an enemy, recognizing that someone is after you. [01:08:40]
You don't just become demon-possessed. It's not like you're just living your life doing nothing wrong. First of all, as a believer, you can't be demon-possessed because you're already possessed by the Holy Spirit. He already owns you. God has you in his hands, and no one can snatch you out of his hands. [07:25:00]
Satan is not an idiot. The demons are not foolish. The Bible talks about him being this roaring lion prowling around seeking whom he can devour. It's the whole idea of just this cunning, sneaking way of getting into their life to devour them, and that's what he does in our lives. [08:55:39]
Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising then if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. Can you understand that what the Bible says is when there are false teachers that come to the church and come to the world, they don't walk in and go I'm of the devil, listen to me. [09:57:44]
God says very clearly to them I cannot stand those practices. If anyone is practicing those things, get them out of there, destroy them, get him out of that land. I don't want them in that land. I hate that stuff, and you stay away from it. You stay completely pure of that. [14:26:39]
Satan fell because he wanted to become like God. Isaiah 14:13 says you said in your heart I will ascend to Heaven, I will raise my throne above the stars of God, I will sit enthroned on the Mount of the assembly on the utmost Heights of the Sacred Mountain. [21:20:00]
He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. Very important verse. This is directly at the Pharisees. He goes I want you to understand if you are not for me, you are against me, and another one of Satan's lies is you can be neutral. [31:30:23]
If your house is empty, demon will just come right back in. You better fill it with something. You better fill yourself with the Holy Spirit so that demons can't come in because it's already occupied. [34:32:40]
The problem is I can eat in the morning, and a few hours later I'm hungry again. I got to eat again. I keep eating. I got to keep eating good stuff so I don't just run to the candy. See, and that's a problem with most believers. We all have an appetite. We all have an appetite for fulfillment. [39:00:16]
If we're not filling ourselves up in the word of God all week, guess where we're going to run to? The entertainment that Satan has. When we fill ourselves with the word of God, then suddenly that starts getting in our mind, that fills us up, and yeah, there's still some temptation of evil, but not so much. [39:34:08]
The only way you're going to be able to resist the devil, resist his temptations, is to fill your mind with the word of God. See, it's all about packaging. It's all about something that looks so beautiful. [40:25:59]
