John declares that whosoever is born of God overcometh the world, and that victory is faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The victory is not small victory, not partial victory, but glorious victory over sin, over lying, over deceit, over deception, and over deceivers. The fall brought lying into the nature of man, and Cain showed it when he said, “I know not, am I my brother’s keeper?” Lying covers up evil, makes bad people look good, makes sinful people appear righteous, and shows the nature of the devil.

God gives victory when a sinner truly repents, turns away from every form of sin, and comes to Christ for cleansing. Christ remains the model, not Abraham, not David, not Peter, because the Bible paints every man in clear color, and only Jesus is the author and finisher of faith. David’s stay with Achish shows how a secured dependent can become a subtle liar. Achish gave David Ziklag, security, peace, and apparent independence, but David used that place to kill people, take their property, and then lie about where he had gone.

David’s cruelty shows that subtle lying is not harmless. The lie needed murder to protect it. The secret sin needed silencing mouths, killing witnesses, and keeping Achish in the dark. The same cruelty appears when a hypocrite shields family members, workers, or young people from leadership, from truth, and from light, because those people know the facts. Secretive liars think about their standing, their name, their respect, and their position, but God is not in all their thoughts.

Achish’s testimony shows the danger of believing apparently successful liars. Achish called David upright, good, and even “as an angel of God,” but Achish did not know what David had hidden. A man may receive high praise from people who do not know the facts, but that testimony cannot take him to heaven. Conscience knows more than Achish knows.

Strong delusion comes when truth is not loved. When salvation is not the ultimate, and self respect, money, position, beauty, or human honor becomes the goal, the heart begins to believe a lie. Lawless people say there is no law, but the law of Christ remains, and Christ commands repentance and obedience.

Revelation denounces all liars: fearful liars, unbelieving liars, private liars, public liars, professional liars, and those who make a lie. God calls for repentance, restitution, restoration, and renewal. First love thinks first of God, first of Christ, first of truth. Psalm 51 shows that truth in the inward parts brings cleansing, joy, and usefulness again. The rapture belongs to those who sleep in Jesus and those who remain alive in righteousness, with nothing hidden, nothing covered, and nothing secretive before God.
