The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learn it that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary he awakens me morning by morning he awakens my ear to hear as the learner the Lord God has opened my ear and I was not rebellious nor did I turn away. [00:01:52]

I gave my back to those who struck me and my cheeks to those who plucked out the beard I did not hide my face from shame and spitting for the Lord God will help me therefore I will not be disgraced therefore I have set my face like a flint and I know that I will not be ashamed. [00:02:09]

The purpose for which he came was so that he would die on the cross in our place and shed his blood that we might be cleansed and that we might be born again and come into a relationship with God and so what are you saying then is that he has set his face he has said his purpose on God's purpose. [00:04:24]

He is saying I have to go through and remember this word of baptism means to be immersed to be placed under to be dunked and so he understands that what is waiting for him is that he is going to be immersed in suffering the most terrible suffering that we cannot even begin to understand. [00:10:03]

The temptations of the Lord Jesus were yes at one level personal the temptation to turn stones into bread for him to for him to eat but those temptations were far more than personal those temptations had to do with the goal the goal was that Jesus had come to die an atoning death in order to gain the world. [00:16:29]

Paul says not that I have already attained or I'm already perfected he says I haven't achieved the purpose or the goal then I press on that I may lay hold or that for which Christ Jesus also has laid hold of me so so Paul is saying Jesus grabbed hold of me he arrested me remember on the road to Damascus. [00:21:28]

I pressed towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus now here's the here's the question what is the goal what is the prize and I believe that the goal and the prize for Paul is the same as for us it's easy to look at Paul and to say well for Paul it was the ministry. [00:24:38]

For whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his son that he might be the firstborn among many brethren now there are all sorts of complications here about the fall knowing and predestined we're not going to get into that obviously but the point here is that those who here saved. [00:33:20]

The purpose of everything is not preaching the purpose of everything is God shaping me into the image of his son and the thing that we're going through right now that the whole world and that Christians across the world are going through right now has one purpose you know and we can we can worry about all of the conspiracy theories. [00:34:46]

The temptations to build our own kingdom temporary kingdom here remember Jesus takes his three of these disciples up into the Mount of Transfiguration and they said well it's built some three hats here we just want to stay here this is wonderful and Jesus is now I've got a job to go and do I have a cross to go to. [00:41:29]

Therefore we do not lose heart even though our outward man is perishing in other words we're getting old we're dying we're getting sick yet the inward man is being renewed day by day in other words that's the important part what is inside and not what is outside for our light affliction our light affliction. [00:42:40]

Looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher so there's our goal the Lord Jesus let's have our eyes on him I remember when I was still doing a lot of backpacking in in wilderness areas and navigating with a map and a compass one of the things that I learned that you had to do was you had to you had to find a landmark. [00:46:04]
