Unleashing the Power of Prayer in One Name
Summary
In this week's message, we delve into the profound significance of prayer, focusing on the concept of "One Name" and the power it holds in our spiritual lives. The theme for the year is "one," and this series is dedicated to understanding the depth and impact of praying in the name of Jesus. We explore the idea of having a singular prayer for the year, a prayer that unites us as a church and as individuals, allowing us to focus our spiritual energy and intentions on a common goal. This prayer is not meant to be our only prayer but serves as a central point of reflection and connection with God.
We are encouraged to engage in prayer with a posture of openness and stillness, allowing God's presence to dwell within us. This involves recognizing the intimacy of our relationship with God, approaching Him as our Father, and understanding our identity as His children. The act of prayer is described as the native language of our soul, a way to express the deepest cries of our heart to the Lord.
The message also highlights the importance of declaring God's greatness in our prayers. By hallowing His name, we acknowledge His holiness and power, setting the stage for spiritual warfare against the forces that seek to disrupt our connection with Him. This declaration is not just a personal act but a statement to the spiritual realm, affirming God's supremacy and our trust in His strength.
We are reminded of the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16, who, despite being imprisoned and beaten, chose to pray and sing hymns to God. Their faith and praise led to a miraculous release, demonstrating the transformative power of prayer and worship. This story serves as an inspiration for us to maintain our faith and continue praising God, even in the darkest moments of our lives.

This prayer serves as a filter through which we view life, aligning our hearts with God's will and purpose. By concentrating on one central prayer, we can channel our spiritual energy towards a common goal, fostering a sense of unity and purpose within our church and personal lives. This does not mean abandoning other prayers but rather using this singular prayer as a focal point for reflection and connection with God. [02:34]
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." (Matthew 18:20, ESV)
Reflection: What is one specific prayer you can commit to focusing on this year that aligns with God's will and can unite you with others in your community?

Quotes
And it really is impactful when we understand the dynamic, the beauty, the power, the significance of engaging. Engaging one-on-one in prayer with the Lord. And then engaging with the Lord in one prayer. And in all my years of ministry, and this is, I've just started 33 years completed of full-time ministry. And in that time, I've never really had a one prayer for the year. [00:01:20] (28 seconds)
But what would it be like if every day, multiple times a day, we all prayed this prayer and we allow ourselves to sit in it and even expand upon it. As the Lord interacts with us, what just might be? [00:02:16] (19 seconds)
We approach him as I got into this last week, the intimacy of praying and him drawing near like the prodigal son returning, something close. Just to have a moment just to be still. It's a Psalm 46 says, be still and know that I am God. You being still, you're not in control of the world. Be still. [00:04:44] (27 seconds)
Make his name holy, separate. It's far above all. Revere his name. Honor his name. Worship his name. His name is all powerful. Put his name on the throne. Make it above all, in all, through all. Hallow his name. It is holy, separate, amazing. Revere it. Revere where we get the word reverence for it. There is something there. Declare his name. Hallowed be his name is important. What's the importance of that in prayer? Jesus goes, here's your posture. Now do this first. [00:11:13] (29 seconds)
He said, the girl is a victim of being trafficked because she had a spirit within her. He speaks to the spirit and he speaks to the spirit and says this, in the name of Jesus Christ. Why? Because there is no other name. In the name of Jesus, every knee will bow. He starts making a declaration and makes it clear. It's not just God. It's not just Father. It's Jesus. [00:30:24] (20 seconds)
And just when it seems like the day is done, just when it doesn't get any darker at about midnight, Paul and Silas were praying, that I understand, and singing hymns to God. In that situation, in those circumstances, but he doesn't stop there. So Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Oh, they weren't praising quiet. [00:36:38] (30 seconds)
You see, what seems to be your darkest, most God-absent moment, is when he is, is going to be revealing himself at his greatest. So there we are in the very, very center. They start praising and they can all hear them. Is it possible that some other prisoners, who by the way, possibly all deserve to be there. Is it possible that some of them were followers of the one true God at some point in their life? And when Paul and Silas started praising, they went, I remember this one. [00:37:27] (28 seconds)
You've got to get it. And I know I'm a passionate guy, but you've got to get a passionate heart in praise every day because it aligns your head and your heart. Because I'm just misaligned all too often. His ways are not my way. So I have to see him. I have to fix my eyes on Jesus and make that declaration. [00:40:58] (25 seconds)
