#PlacedForPurpose
“``God put the Athenians in Athens and he put their answers right under their nose. God put you in this city for his purpose. You're in the church today, this church, because he wanted you to hear this message. Folks, God doesn't do anything by accident. He sent Paul to tell them that God sent a sacrifice to save them, but it wasn't the sheep. But our Christ was the lamb of God who offered the atoning sacrifice.”

#AdvanceTheGospel
“Maybe you're like me. You knew the story of Paul preaching on Mars Hill, but this historical understanding just deepens our appreciation of God's sovereignty. God's sovereign hand in history and how he shaped Paul as a missionary. Hopefully, it has also encouraged you to advance the gospel in your community. Now, as we faithfully communicate the gospel to those we love, those we come into contact with and in this region, We know we're gonna get all kinds of mixed reaction. Some will mock us. Some will get angry. Some will wanna ignore us. Some will be intrigued and wanna talk more. And eventually, you'll find the one or the two who's gonna believe that Jesus Christ is your lord and savior and they would want that for their lives.”

#ImageNotIdols
“And so because we are created in the image of God, we have, you and I have these amazing abilities of brilliance and science and technology. Just think again about this area of the the startups. Number of years ago, Microsoft and Amazon and FedEx and Meta and all of these different companies that were started, some of them here. But it is also a corruption in our hearts that without Christ ruling in our lives, we are essentially idolaters. We worship and serve the created thing rather than the creator.”

#GrieveForTheLost
“think about the modern day idolatry we have right in our own city that we see around us. Do you grieve over the lostness of your neighbors and coworkers, even many of them, the brilliant philosophers and scientists and technicians, but having empty hearts and souls just like Paul saw in that day? I just think of those people who live in those apartments down the road here. And I think of how many of them actually know Jesus Christ as their lord and savior. How many of your coworkers, maybe your CEO, maybe your manager, whoever it might be, do they even know about Christ? Do they even understand Christ's sacrifice for them?”

#DivineProvidenceHere
“And so just quickly moving on. You realize that in God's providence, you are placed where you are right now, in your workplace, in your family, family situation you live in right now, in your community, in this city, God does not make mistakes with you and me. And not a moment of your life, if you understand that, not a moment of your life will be wasted. He will use you to bring glory to him if you're aligned.”

#WitnessByYourLife
“And so let us be faithful to witness to his glory wherever we might be. And you know, sometimes that witnessing is not in what we say, but it is in how we live before people. You don't have to go into work tomorrow with a big old bible this big. You know, the family bible that's this big? You don't have to put that under your arm and walk into work tomorrow. But it's by you being who you are as a disciple of Christ, as his follower, who you are will testify about Jesus Christ in your life. Amen?”

#IdolsEverywhere
“Athens was not just highly populated metropolis, but it was also a spiritually crowded city and there was a saying that there were more statue more gods in Athens than men. Imagine a city with temples and shrines and votive niches on every corner and nearly every wall. The Greek the Greeks also had their temple with the Parthenon of 12 gods. They had Yero cults, mystery religions, practiced veneration to their ancestors and even worshiped the unknown god. So this, to be blunt and to be honest, this was a demonized city. All those statues, all those images that they had were drawing people away from the one true god. It was actually a demonized city.”

#TrustGodsJudgment
“The question that I'm asked many a time is, how will God judge those who've never heard the gospel and thus have had no chance to be saved? Have you ever thought about that question? Paul's teaching in Athens gives some insight as well as his letter to the Romans, though some of this is shrouded in mystery and at the end of the day, neither you or I are gonna judge gonna go into heaven and who's not gonna be in heaven. That's God's business, not mine. All I gotta do is remain faithful and I gotta witness in the day in which I live. I'm fascinated that Paul, the Jew, has this insight that God is indeed very close to these Gentiles, these pagans, and that God desires that they seek after him and find him.”
