The church is God’s tapestry, woven from clashing threads into a masterpiece. What looks like chaos from the back—knots, loose ends, tangled strands—is the exact process that creates beauty on the front. Every strained relationship mended, every awkward conversation had, every stubborn grudge released adds color to the pattern heaven studies. Unity isn’t achieved through absence of friction but through costly reconciliation. The messiness of showing up for one another isn’t failure; it’s the fabric of divine wisdom being stitched. Sermon Summary

Ephesians 3 lifts the church off the ground and hangs it in the heavens. Paul says that God has a wisdom so vast, so elaborate, so many colored, that the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places are leaning in to study it. God’s display case is not a galaxy, a mountain range, the Grand Canyon, or an empire. God’s display case is the church, an ordinary gathering of forgiven people.

Paul writes to believers in Ephesus, a city drowning in fear of unseen powers. Ephesus knew amulets, spells, incantations, and spiritual fear. Paul tells these former fear-driven people that the powers are not their masters anymore. The powers are the audience. The church, this awkward, mixed, unimpressive gathering of Jews and Gentiles, is the show.

The phrase “multifaceted wisdom of God” means many colored, like an embroidered cloth or a richly woven tapestry. God’s wisdom is not just that God is smart. God’s wisdom is a masterpiece. The threads are reconciled people, enemies who had no business being in the same room, now worshiping the same Lord. Fear divides. Greed divides. Pride divides. That is the oldest trick in hell’s book. But Christ takes enemies and makes them family.

The cross holds the whole thing together. The wall came down because Jesus was broken down. The two became one because he was torn apart. Every color in that tapestry was dyed in his blood. The powers thought Good Friday was their victory, but God disarmed them by the cross and then built a living exhibit of his wisdom right in front of their faces.

Ephesians 3 then presses the church toward three visible answers. The church is to show heaven a people made one, because unity is not decoration, it is the church’s message. The church is to show heaven a people made clean, not polished or pretending, but confessing sin and walking in the light. The church is to show heaven a people on the move, because the display is not a museum piece. Ordinary faithfulness, prayer, forgiveness, repentance, invitation, endurance, and love are kingdom-sized work.
