“Lord, make us Melvins. Lord, we wanna be a people who come with hunger. Those who aren't interested in who's the best, who we like better. But Lord, we're hungry for you in any way that you choose to come. We're so grateful for the many avenues that you do choose to come in the unexpected ways. Lord, you love us that much that you wanna continually be before us, showing yourself to us, transforming us into your image. We pray that as a body, we could be a body of hunger that's all about God. It's not interested in being better or worse than anyone else. It is here for you and loves you. We pray all this in Jesus' name.”
25s
“But this kind of listening, it takes away our need to critique or rank things, particularly a sermon, and puts us in a posture of longing, of wanting, of hunger. It could bring God to us. I think it can be unexpectedly helpful in having more conversations with God, the thing that we want to do in the first place.”
37s
“what if I came with a hunger to know, love, hear, see, encounter God or be encountered by God? That's my goal when I sit down. When the person whoever's up here starts talking, how do I access this hunger? If I don't have it, I ask God for more of it. what if I ask the Lord to speak to me today? Even if Charlie's up here and I usually just check out when Charlie talks. God, can you speak to me even through somebody like that?”
