In my recent sermon, I addressed the concept of dignity and how it often hinders our worship and relationship with God. I emphasized that as believers, we should not be overly concerned with our appearance or reputation before the world. Instead, we should focus on our identity as kings and priests unto God, as stated in Revelation 1:6, and prioritize our worship and relationship with Him.
I discussed the importance of atmosphere and environment in worship, highlighting that worship is not confined to the church setting but begins in the privacy of our homes. Worship is about humbling oneself and exalting Christ. The church serves as a training ground, teaching us to worship freely and without judgment, preparing us to carry that worship into the world.
I delved into the omnipresence of God, explaining that while God is everywhere, there is a distinction when His manifest presence, or glory, is experienced. This was illustrated by recent moments in our services when we felt a tangible shift in the atmosphere as we gathered around the altar.
I used the analogy of a fisherman catching a shark to illustrate the importance of being in the right environment. Just as a shark is powerful in the water but helpless on a boat, we too can feel out of place and powerless when we are not in the right spiritual environment.
I recounted the biblical story of David and Michal from 2 Samuel 6, focusing on David's undignified worship as he brought the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem. Despite being king, David set aside his royal garments and danced before the Lord with all his might. Michal, observing from a palace window, despised him for his undignified behavior. I emphasized that our worship should be genuine and not performed to impress others, but solely for God.
I encouraged the congregation to worship freely, without concern for the opinions of others. Worship should be an expression of our gratitude and love for God, who has chosen and appointed us. I reminded everyone that our worship can have spiritual implications, piercing through darkness and confusion, and inviting the presence of heaven into our midst.
Finally, I urged the congregation to become even more undignified in their worship, following David's example. By humbling ourselves and decreasing in earthly standing, we allow God's presence to increase in our lives, leading to greater blessings and opportunities to glorify Jesus.
