Understanding the Transformative Presence of the Holy Spirit

1) "And of all the teachings, I thought about this, and of all the experiences, because it is an experience for sure, that I've had as a Christian that have impacted my life, my encounter with the Holy Spirit, being baptized with the Holy Spirit, being filled with the Holy Spirit, whatever terminology you're accustomed to, has to rank in the top five. And I think that's a great thing. Up near the top. I mean, it really does, because it totally changed. I mean, it totally changed my walk with God. It revolutionized my walk with God. 2) "But let me tell you what I am into. I'm into truth. I'm into understanding. Are you listening to me? I'm into life because I believe, I don't believe, I know the Holy Spirit is the giver of life. He brings life to you that makes you alive in Christ. But if you think that's the last time he brings life to you, man, I'll tell you, he doesn't only quicken your immortal body. How many know he'll bring life to every aspect of your life where there's death? Isn't that right? The Holy Spirit can bring life to you. He can bring life to you and do that." 3) "So the power is what the Holy Spirit was all about. That's why he came. That's why he fell upon them. That's why they were baptized in the Holy Spirit was so they had power. Power to carry out the mission of God. Power to do the works of Jesus. Man, this is not in my notes, but anyway, this is where I'm going. Do you realize that Jesus didn't do one miracle until after the day that he went down to be baptized by John in the river Jordan. And when he did, the Bible says the Holy Spirit descended upon him, came upon him, like it did in Acts chapter two on the disciples and rested on him. Isn't that right? 4) "How are you ever going to take advantage of all that the Holy spirit is in your life? If you don't really truly know who he is and you don't have the kind of relationship with him, you really ought to have, and you really need to have, amen. So that he can do the things in your life. And for that matter, through your life that he desires to do. So many are like the Christian, like these disciples, they're uninformed. Then there's another group of believers that aren't in this text, but I've ran into over the years that are misinformed. 5) "And you know what? I can walk into a service like I just talked about where God is moving. There's no doubt God is moving and the presence of God is strong and there are marvelous things happening, but there are people who maybe are overly emotional. Again, they just, come on, a little bit of crazy. And I've got enough sense to disassociate the one with the other and to ignore that. 6) "So whether you're uninformed, misinformed, or skeptical, regardless of what your background is, here's all I'm asking from you over the next few weeks. I'm asking you to set aside your preconceived ideas, your biases, whatever. And for the next few weeks, let's approach the scripture with fresh eyes and let's discover, or for that matter, rediscover who the Holy Spirit is, what he does, and why we need him in our lives. 7) "The Holy Spirit is God. He's as God, as God the Father, God the Son. He's just a different expression. Are you hearing me? And he's God with us in the now. That's who the Holy Spirit is. He's a person. Do you know why you need to understand that he's a person? Because you see him as a force. Or if you just see him as an energy, as a power. I don't know anybody who has a relationship with a force. You got to see the Holy Spirit as just as much a person as God the Father and God the Son are.
