Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

1) "So as Pastor Rob said, we're currently in a series that says, Does the Bible Really Say That? And so the first week we talked about God won't give you more than you can handle. Is that true? No. All right. The next thing was only God can judge me. Is that true? No. If you weren't here, there's a pattern. All right. Next. God helps those who help themselves. Is that true? Not within the context of how we presented it. And then last week we talked about God wants me only to be happy. True? No." [52:18] (33 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2) "And so what we need to understand is that sin, because that's what we're going to be talking about for the rest of the day, is that sin is very real and it does have serious earthly consequences and potentially devastating eternal consequences. And so today I want us to look at three misconceptions about sin and see what the Word of God says about it. And so the first one is this, it is, I'm not a bad person." 3) "Guys, here's the reality is that we all, especially if we have, we were born into this world a sinner, right? We were all sinners at one time. We do make mistakes. We do need to repent. And so I want to have a little fun for a moment. Anybody like having fun? Okay. So has anybody ever heard of Ray Comfort? He was a guy, he wrote some books. He was very, very good at writing. He was a great evangelistic. He would go out to campuses and present the gospel message." [01:02:53] (27 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4) "The Bible does not teach that all sin is the same. What it does say is that all unforgiven sin leads to eternal death. Romans 6 .23 says, So, what do we get for sin? Death. Whether it's a small one or a big one. But any kind of unforgiven sin leads us to death. But here's the good news. It's found in the rest of this verse. It says, But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." [01:04:07] (36 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5) "And so, when it's talking about treasures, it's talking about these rewards that we'll receive in heaven based on what we do here or what we don't do here. And so, we've got to recognize that how we live on this earth influences also our reward. Our rewards in heaven. So, we're talking about things that help us to, we need to recognize that how we live influences several things." [01:08:45] (28 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6) "And so, as we get closer to him, he exposes those dark places and he does it because he loves us because he wants to create us more into his image, less of us and more of him. And I don't know if you guys have ever recognized this, but something we got to understand is that sin thrives in the dark. Agreed? It thrives. A lot of the sins that we truly struggle with, they're in the dark." [01:24:55] (33 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7) "Sin is progressive. You know, you cheat once on a test and then the temptation to do it again makes it easier, right? Until you're just doing it all the time. You look at pornography and then there's that pool that brings you in deeper and it just makes you want to do that more. You tell maybe what you would call just one small little lie and then suddenly you find yourself lying all the time where you don't even know what the truth is anymore." 8) "The truth is sin does have a cost. But Jesus is greater than our sin. Can anybody say amen? We saw that in 1 John 1 .8. It says that if we say that we have no sin, I'm not a bad person. We deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. But the next verse, I love this promise. If we confess, confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from what? All unrighteousness." [01:30:40] (30 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
