Understanding Poverty and Embracing God's Prosperity

Summary

In my sermon, I discussed the importance of understanding the systems we function under, particularly the system of poverty versus the system of prosperity. I emphasized that poverty is not just a state of material lack, but it can also manifest as spiritual, relational, and motivational poverty. Spiritual poverty is not knowing and trusting God as our source, while relational poverty is being focused solely on oneself and one's immediate family, failing to see the bigger picture of God's love for all humanity. Motivational poverty is being focused on personal consumption and materialism without understanding the value of sowing and replanting for the future. Material poverty is the lack of resources for basic needs. I stressed that God has given us a system of prosperity and it's up to us to choose to function under it.

Key takeaways:
- Poverty is not just material but can also be spiritual, relational, and motivational. ( [01:14:08])
- Spiritual poverty is not knowing and trusting God as our source. ( [01:10:32])
- Relational poverty is being focused solely on oneself and one's immediate family. ( [01:12:53])
- Motivational poverty is being focused on personal consumption and materialism without understanding the value of sowing and replanting for the future. ( [01:14:08])
- God has given us a system of prosperity and it's up to us to choose to function under it. ( [01:07:33])

Devotional

Day 1: Understanding Systems of Existence

We must understand the systems we function within to fully manifest God's goodness in our lives. This understanding allows us to discern whether we are operating from the Kingdom of God or the system of the world. As we strive to manifest God's goodness, we must remember that the Christ within us is not poor, and we are called to bring ourselves out of poverty ([01:08:26]).

Ephesians 1:17-18 - "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people."

Reflection: How can you discern whether you are operating from the Kingdom of God or the system of the world in your daily life?

Day 2: Breaking Free from Spiritual Poverty

Spiritual poverty is not knowing and trusting God as our source. To break free from this form of poverty, we must acknowledge that everything we have comes from God and we are merely giving back to Him what is already His ([01:11:12]).

1 Chronicles 29:14 - "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand."

Reflection: In what areas of your life do you struggle to trust God as your source?

Day 3: Overcoming Relational Poverty

Relational poverty is being focused solely on ourselves and our immediate family, failing to understand the broader journey of Christ. We are called to love not just those within our immediate circle, but all of God's children ([01:12:10]).

1 John 4:21 - "And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister."

Reflection: How can you extend your love beyond your immediate family to reflect Christ's love for all?

Day 4: Conquering Motivational Poverty

Motivational poverty is focusing on personal consumption and materialism without understanding the value of sowing and replanting into the Kingdom of God. We must shift our motivation from self-centeredness to Kingdom-centeredness ([01:14:08]).

2 Corinthians 9:6 - "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously."

Reflection: How can you shift your motivation from self-centeredness to Kingdom-centeredness?

Day 5: Eradicating Material Poverty

Material poverty is the belief that there are not enough resources for basic needs. We must trust in God's provision and believe in His abundance ([01:15:31]).

Psalm 34:10 - "The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing."

Reflection: How can you cultivate a mindset of abundance, trusting in God's provision?

Quotes

1. "Our purpose is bigger than our family. Our relationships have got to grow. Who I am is bigger. I'm not just here for my family. We got to get locked into that and especially if you're in any kind of ministry." - 01:13:29

2. "God is going to give you the revelation of how to live in the abundance he's called me to. I will not be a victim of poverty but I will be a system breaker. I'm living beyond the language of the world, I'm living in the language of spirit." - 01:16:38

3. "God is Awakening you to address a system. It is a system that will bear his grace and goodness in the lives of others. We've got to look at and make sure that we do not allow ourselves to miss knowing which system we're functioning under." - 01:07:33

4. "The Christ in you is not a poor Christ. The anointing wants to bring you out of poverty. Yes, nobody can bring you out, you gotta come out. God has given us a system of prosperity." - 01:09:03

5. "Spiritual poverty is not knowing and trusting God as source. God is your source. We have got to be spiritually mature enough to know that God has us. It's not about the what but all about the who." - 01:12:10
