Understanding God's love requires us to look beyond our immediate desires and circumstances. In John 11, we see a profound example of this through the story of Lazarus. Jesus, upon hearing of Lazarus's illness, chooses not to rush to his side but instead allows him to die. This decision, seemingly counterintuitive, is rooted in a deeper purpose: the glorification of God. Jesus's actions reveal that God's love is not always about immediate relief or comfort but about leading us to a greater understanding and satisfaction in His glory. [02:17]
John 11:14-15 (ESV): "Then Jesus told them plainly, 'Lazarus has died, and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.'"
Reflection: Think of a current struggle or discomfort in your life. How might God be using this situation to reveal His glory to you?
Day 2: True Satisfaction in God Alone
True satisfaction is found in knowing and enjoying God, not in being the center of attention or receiving earthly blessings. Our ultimate fulfillment comes from seeing and savoring the glory of God in Jesus Christ, which is the essence of eternal life. This perspective shifts our focus from temporary pleasures to the eternal joy found in a relationship with God. [06:24]
Psalm 16:11 (ESV): "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
Reflection: Identify one area where you seek satisfaction outside of God. How can you redirect your focus to find joy in His presence today?
Day 3: Trials as Pathways to God
We often mistake God's love for the fulfillment of our desires, such as health or success. However, true love from God is about drawing us closer to Him, even if it means allowing us to go through trials. These experiences help us shift our focus from ourselves to God, leading us to find true joy and fulfillment in Him alone. [07:36]
James 1:2-4 (ESV): "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."
Reflection: Reflect on a recent trial you faced. How did it help you grow closer to God, and what did you learn about His love through it?
Day 4: God's Love Reveals His Glory
The love of God is defined by His willingness to do whatever is necessary, at any cost, to reveal His glory to us. This is not about God making much of us, but about transforming us to delight in making much of Him. Our lives are meant to reflect His glory, and His love guides us toward this ultimate purpose. [08:33]
2 Corinthians 4:6 (ESV): "For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
Reflection: Consider how your daily actions and decisions reflect God's glory. What is one change you can make to better align with this purpose?
Day 5: Finding Delight in Jesus
Our distorted desires often lead us to seek satisfaction in being made much of by others. However, true satisfaction comes when we forget ourselves and are swallowed up in Jesus Christ, making Him our treasure and delight. This shift in focus allows us to experience the fullness of life that God intends for us. [09:51]
Colossians 3:1-3 (ESV): "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
Reflection: What is one practical step you can take today to make Jesus your ultimate treasure and delight? How can this change your perspective on your current circumstances?

Sermon Clips
What If instead of any of these things, God showed his love to you by letting you die in sickness? It's a crazy thought, right? Totally counterintuitive, and yet this is exactly what we read about in John chapter 11, verses 1 to 44. Listen to this extraordinary story because in it we find a life-changing lesson God wants all of us to grasp. [00:40:02]
Notice three things: one, Jesus chose to let Lazarus die; two, he was motivated in this by his Zeal for the glory of God to be manifest; third, this motivation is love. Do you see the word so or therefore at the beginning of verse 6? Do you see what it's preceded by and followed by? [03:16:20]
God's love is his doing whatever needs to be done, at whatever cost, so that we will see and be satisfied with the glory of God in Jesus Christ. Say it again: the love of God is his doing whatever needs to be done, at whatever cost to himself or to us, so that we will see and be satisfied by the love of God in Christ forever and ever. [04:38:00]
If Jesus loves you and prays for you, do you know what he finally asks for you? That you may see him. The ultimate answer to the prayer of Love is show them my glory, Father, show them my glory, and they will have arrived at ultimate satisfaction. [06:00:36]
Why do you want to be loved by God? Yes, not to perish, yes, not to go to hell, yes, not to have a guilty conscience anymore, yes, to have the marriage put back together. But if that's all you want, you don't know him. You don't know him. [06:28:34]
It's for life, and what is life? It is to know him and his son, is to fellowship with him, it's to Behold Him, it's to be satisfied with him, it's to enjoy him. Until Christ becomes our treasure, we don't know what it is to be loved by God. [06:46:20]
I hope before we're done, God will have worked in your heart so that you see enough of God the father and enough of God the son Jesus Christ, so that you will know and feel that it is not finally for the relief of your conscience, it is not finally for escape from hell, it is not finally for health in our bodies or reconciliation among our family members. [07:18:72]
It is finally to bring you home to God, where you can see him and enjoy him forever and ever and ever. And I want to know, do you want this? Do you want this? Do you want to be loved by God for God? [07:45:00]
When in fact the love of God Is So working as to change you so that you enjoy making much of him forever and ever and ever, and that's the end of your quest. There isn't anything beyond it. I do believe that is in every heart in this room. [08:39:36]
You're being tricked, many of you, into thinking that the satisfying thing in life is to be made much of. If I could just get some people to clap for me, to like me, to approve me, to give me a raise or to give me an advancement, if I could just get someone to pay attention to me, I would be satisfied. [09:13:80]
You wouldn't. I promise you in the name of Jesus Christ almighty, you wouldn't. You will be satisfied when you forget yourself and are swallowed up in Jesus Christ, and he becomes your treasure and he becomes your delight and he becomes what you cherish and what you value. [09:42:12]
And you spend the rest of your eternity growing in your capacity to see and Savor, to know and Delight in him forever and ever, and it will get better and better and better. Powerful. The love of God is his doing whatever needs to be done at whatever cost to himself or to us so that we will see and be satisfied by the love of God in Christ forever and ever. [10:11:82]
