As the year turns, plans and evaluations can swirl with unknowns, and fear tries to edge into the heart. But God is immutable—He does not shift with the seasons or wobble under pressure. His love, holiness, mercy, and wisdom are steady, so you can breathe and plant your feet in His constancy. Let your goals be held with open hands while your confidence rests in His unchanging character. When circumstances surprise you, remember that nothing surprises Him, and He remains good. Release the fear of the future and cling to the God who never changes. [03:12]
Malachi 3:6 — “I, the LORD, do not change; that is why you are not wiped out, for my steady character holds you fast.”
Reflection: Where has fear of the unknown been shaping your plans, and how will you remind yourself of God’s immutability each morning this week?
Revelation shows the Father on the throne, the Spirit in His fullness, and Jesus Christ—faithful witness, first over the dead, ruler over every ruler—lavishing grace and peace. God eternally reigns; He was, He is, and He is to come. In a world of variables, His rule is the fixed point for your soul. Worship steadies your steps because it turns your eyes from chaos to the King eternal. Let grace quiet your striving and peace temper your pace. Receive what He freely gives and walk today beneath His sovereign care. [04:26]
Revelation 1:4-6 — “Grace and peace to you from the One who is, who was, and who is coming; from the Spirit in perfect fullness; and from Jesus Christ—the reliable witness, first to rise, and ruler of the earth’s rulers—who loves us, freed us from our sins by His blood, and made us a kingdom of priests to serve His Father.”
Reflection: In one specific area that feels chaotic, how will you practice worship this week to remember that God still reigns there?
Jesus came just as promised, and He will come again just as surely. His return is not wishful thinking; it is the trustworthy word of the faithful God. Let that certainty shape your priorities, your time, your generosity, and your courage to speak the gospel. For those in Christ, it will be a day of joy; for those who reject Him, a day of sorrow. So live awake, expectant, and ready—today could be the day you see Him. Order your life around His promise, not your calendar. [05:09]
Revelation 1:7 — “Look—He is arriving with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the peoples will mourn because of Him—this is certain.”
Reflection: What one priority would you realign this week if you truly believed Jesus could return today, and what concrete change will you make?
There is a real spiritual war, but you are not left to your own strength. God is faithful—He establishes you, guards you, and does not abandon His people. Even when your resolve wavers, His commitment does not. Stand firm by leaning on His promise rather than on your willpower. Ask Him to stabilize your thoughts, keep you from evil, and open doors to share the gospel without fear. Take a step today that trusts His guarding presence. [02:58]
2 Thessalonians 3:3 — “The Lord can be counted on; He will make you steady and shield you from the evil one.”
Reflection: Where do you feel most under spiritual pressure right now, and what specific prayer for God’s guarding help will you pray each day this week?
Jesus declares Himself the Alpha and the Omega—the first word and the last word over all history. He holds the bookends of eternity and rules everything in between, directing history toward His good end. Your best plans are fragile; His purpose is unstoppable. Because He wins, you can trade anxiety for worship and hesitation for obedience. Let His almighty presence steady your next step, whether confessing sin, reconciling a relationship, or opening your mouth to speak of Him. Live today with the confidence that the Almighty has the final say. [03:41]
Revelation 1:8 — “I am the A and the Z, says the Lord—the One who is, who was, and who is coming—the All-Powerful.”
Reflection: What is one concrete step of obedience you will take this week because the One who began and will finish all things already holds your future?
I’m a planner. This time of year, my mind runs in evaluation mode—health, family, ministry, direction—all of it. But our plans bump into reality: the unknowns we can’t control. That’s where fear creeps in. We joke about phobias, but fear of the future is not funny; it can paralyze us. The good news is that while life is full of variables, God is not. He is immutable—unchanging in His character—and Revelation 1:4-8 reminds us of three unchanging truths we can take into the year ahead.
First, our God eternally reigns. The Father, Spirit, and Son are presented in sovereign beauty—“him which is, and which was, and which is to come.” Jesus is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. He is Alpha and Omega—present at the beginning, present at the end, and Lord over everything in between. The chaos of our moment doesn’t change who sits on the throne. He reigns now and forever.
Second, our God is faithful. Jesus is coming again. Just as the first advent was fulfilled, the second will be too. Every eye will see Him. That certainty should shape how we live—how we spend time, money, and energy. And while the second coming brings joy for believers, it will bring terror for those who reject Him. That’s not a reason for smugness; it’s a call to urgency and compassion. We must live on mission, helping as many as possible meet the Savior before that day.
Third, our God wins. He directs history—A to Z belongs to Him. He didn’t just witness the beginning or wait at the end; He is the beginning and the end. Nothing in the “in-between” is outside His authority. So our fragile plans can rest inside His firm purposes. If you don’t know Him, He saves. If you do, take the next step—repent, obey, commit, share, and serve our great unchanging God.
This time of year all of that goes into hyperdrive as I begin looking at next year and praying about what needs to change and improve.
We plan and prepare and try to achieve our goals and dreams, but so much can happen that is out of our control, and change is inevitable.
I would venture to say all of us to some degree are afraid of what the future may hold and especially the unknowns that we can’t control.
Fear of the unknown can be unsettling; it creates insecurity and indecision and can be paralyzing to our decisions at times.
We have a God who is unchanging in who he is. Immutable means God’s character and nature do not change.
We don't have to fear the future because God is already there, reigning and sovereign; even in our present chaos, an eternal unchanging God rules.
Jesus is coming again just like he promised. His immutability assures it; he is unchanging and faithful to do what he promised.
We should live every day with the expectation that Jesus could return today; our priorities, time, and money should reflect that reality.
There is a battle raging, a spiritual war between good and evil, between God and his enemies, and we need to know which side of that battle we are on.
Because of who God has made us in Christ, when all evil is defeated and Christ reigns, if you are on his team you win too — eternity is secured.
