39s
“That's the space that opens up when we find that it is both kind and honest to tell that truth between ourselves. That's the kind of relationship that Jesus invites us into with what sounds like such a hard teaching. But one step, one truth, one honest conversation at a time, we are guided into those relationships that are the kingdom of God by the gift of love between us. Thanks be to God.”
39s
“We evade the truth because we take responsibility for each other's reactions. We try to say only as much as we need to say because we've decided somehow that it is our fault if I say something that somebody else reacts to in a way I don't like. So I imagine how you're going to respond, and I say not exactly what is true. I say what I hope will give the response that I want or will avoid the response that I'm afraid of.”
45s
“And the grace in that is that we can then trust each other to support one another, to grow in a relationship that meets our needs without that falsehood that otherwise hangs in between us. Jesus tells us that we don't change heaven or earth or God or even ourselves with some magic based on whether we keep our word, but we change the world that we live in by whether our answers and our questions are authentic and honest and generous.”
