The word of God stands as the rock, and the world keeps trying to twist it, shut it down, or call it a fairy tale. The Sanhedrin tried to stop the name of Jesus, but the followers of Jesus basically said, “the heck with that,” and kept praising him even when it cost them their lives. Christ has given faith, the message of Christ, and a relationship with God the Father because of Jesus, so the church keeps preaching that.
The Vacation Bible School lessons line up around one big truth after another. Truth comes from God, just like the garden showed when Satan and Eve twisted what God said. God’s plan is best, just like Daniel showed when God’s way of eating turned out better than Babylon’s way. Everyone needs Jesus, like the rich young ruler showed, and Jesus is the only way, because Acts says there is no other name under heaven by which someone must be saved, and Jesus said no one comes to the Father except through him.
Speaking the truth in love becomes the big day five lesson. The world often hears disagreement as hatred, and sometimes answers truth with anger, violence, or a big old confrontational mess. God’s truth still has to be spoken, whether the subject is abortion, sin, salvation, or someone close who is running from Jesus. Jesus is still running after them too, because God wants men and women to be saved.
Paul shows what that kind of mercy can do. Saul was breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples, but Jesus knocked him down, blinded him, and said, “I’m Jesus whom you are persecuting.” That was mercy, because Saul went from persecuting Christians to preaching Christ with all his heart. The scales fell off, he was baptized, and God turned an enemy into a servant.
Ephesus shows what happens when truth hits idols. Paul found people who had not even heard of the Holy Spirit, baptized them in the name of Jesus, and taught boldly for years. Some became obstinate, refused to believe, and maligned the Way. Then Demetrius the silversmith stirred up trouble because Paul’s gospel threatened the idol business, and money dressed itself up like concern for Artemis.
Ephesians 4:15 calls the church to speak the truth in love, not with malice, anger, or a mouth running too hard. Romans 12:2 calls for a renewed mind that does not conform to the pattern of this world. Jesus takes relationships seriously enough to say that reconciliation matters even before an offering. The truth must stand, but the heart speaking it has to stay with Christ.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Truth needs both backbone and love Speaking truth in love does not mean shaving the truth down until nobody gets offended. It also does not mean using truth like a hammer just because anger feels justified. Christ calls truth to stand upright while the heart stays submitted to him, not controlled by the other person’s reaction. [27:23]
- 2. Faith is not blind weakness Faith looks foolish to a world that wants every answer on its own terms. Yet faith is not a fallback for people who cannot think, but a powerful force that saves, leads, and directs. The believer’s confidence rests not in winning every argument, but in the God who is true even when the other person stays obstinate. [20:22]
- 3. Jesus still chases the runner The person running from Jesus is not beyond the reach of Jesus. The Lord’s desire for men and women to be saved gives patience to the one who keeps speaking truth with love. Hope stays alive because salvation is not produced by human pressure, but by God’s Word and the power of the Holy Spirit. [12:09]
- 4. Idols fight when profits shake Demetrius did not just defend Artemis, he defended the income that came from Artemis. Idolatry often sounds spiritual, cultural, or emotional, but underneath it can be a wallet, a habit, or a comfort that does not want to be touched. The gospel exposes false gods because it says plainly that gods made by human hands are not gods at all. [22:02]
- 5. Reconciliation matters before religion Jesus treats broken relationships as something that cannot be ignored while worship goes on like nothing happened. The command to leave the gift and go be reconciled shows that God cares about the heart behind the offering. Truth spoken in love also has to be humble enough to repair damage when anger, pride, or careless words have wounded someone.
