Trusting God's Provision and the Power of the Spirit
Devotional
Day 1: Trust in God's Unseen Provision
God's provision often comes in unexpected ways, reminding us of His faithfulness and care. When we step out in faith, we may encounter surprising forms of support, just as the stories of unexpected provision illustrate. These moments are not mere coincidences but are orchestrated by God to meet our needs and strengthen our trust in Him. By relying on God's provision, we learn to let go of our own understanding and embrace His divine plan. [16:19]
"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19, ESV)
Reflection: Think of a recent situation where you felt uncertain about your needs being met. How can you trust God to provide in ways you might not expect?
Day 2: The Holy Spirit as Our Guide and Strength
The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in the life of a believer, acting as a Counselor and Comforter. This relationship requires active engagement and a willingness to be led by the Spirit. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and empower us for service. As believers, we are called to be open to the Spirit's leading, allowing Him to shape our lives and direct our paths. [31:41]
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." (John 14:26, ESV)
Reflection: In what areas of your life do you need to be more open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit? How can you actively seek His direction today?
Day 3: Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit
The true evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit is seen in the fruit we bear, such as love, joy, peace, and more. These qualities reflect the Spirit's transformative work in our lives and are more significant than any spiritual gift. As we grow in our relationship with God, the fruit of the Spirit becomes more evident, showcasing the depth of our faith and the impact of the Spirit's presence in our lives. [56:18]
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." (Galatians 5:22-23, ESV)
Reflection: Which fruit of the Spirit do you find most challenging to exhibit? What steps can you take to cultivate this fruit in your daily life?
Day 4: The Power of Persistent Prayer
Persistent prayer is key to receiving the Holy Spirit's power. This persistence is not about convincing a reluctant God but about preparing our hearts to receive what He is eager to give. Through prayer, we align ourselves with God's will and open ourselves to His transformative work. By committing to a life of persistent prayer, we invite the Holy Spirit to empower us and guide us in our faith journey. [13:14]
"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." (Romans 12:12, ESV)
Reflection: How can you incorporate persistent prayer into your daily routine? What specific time or place can you dedicate to seeking God's presence through prayer?
Day 5: Total Commitment to God
Presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice is a call to total commitment. When we give ourselves fully to God, He fills us with His Spirit, enabling us to live out our faith with power and purpose. This commitment requires surrendering our desires and aligning our lives with God's will. By doing so, we experience the fullness of His Spirit and the transformative power of His presence in our lives. [43:26]
"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." (Romans 12:1, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you find yourself holding back from surrendering to God? What would surrendering this area to Him actually look like in terms of daily habits?
Sermon Summary
In this message, I shared a series of personal anecdotes and spiritual insights to illustrate the profound ways in which God provides and guides those who trust in Him. Beginning with a story from my early days as an evangelist, I recounted how God provided for my needs in unexpected ways, such as a policeman offering me a place to stay and a custom-built bicycle being gifted to me. These stories serve as a testament to God's faithfulness and the importance of trusting Him with our daily needs.
I then transitioned to discussing the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as a Counselor and Comforter, one who strengthens and guides us into all truth. Every true believer is born again by the Spirit, indwelled by the Spirit, and assured by the Spirit. The Spirit's presence in our lives is a mark of God's ownership and a guarantee of our inheritance in heaven. However, being filled with the Holy Spirit is an ongoing process, one that requires our active participation and commitment.
I emphasized that the filling of the Holy Spirit is not just for the apostles or famous evangelists but is available to every believer. This filling empowers us for witnessing, suffering, preaching, and service. The evidence of being filled with the Spirit is not merely in the gifts we receive but in the fruit we bear—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, and moderation. These fruits are the abiding evidence of the Spirit's work in our lives.
Finally, I encouraged everyone to seek this filling of the Holy Spirit through persistent prayer and total commitment to God. The Lord is eager to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask, and it is through this empowerment that we can truly live out our faith and impact the world around us.

Sermon Clips
If God can take care of me one day, He can take care of me tomorrow. If the Lord takes care of me this week, He can take care of me next week, this month, next month. You see, when the disciples went to the Lord and said, "Lord, increase our faith," He didn't say, "Very well, then I'll give you a great big ready-made faith." [00:16:17]
I decided to pray for a new bicycle or the money to buy one. I had to wheel that bicycle 10 miles. Have you ever wheeled a bicycle for 10 miles? You get all twisted to one side, and then you walk on the other side. I was asked to spend the Christmas vacation with an Englishman at a place called Gravesend. [00:17:51]
The answer to prayer came so unexpectedly. A Baptist church, the Baptist pastor on the other side of the River Thames in Essex, had suddenly taken ill. His deacons were in desperation trying to get another preacher to take his place two days before Christmas. Most people have made their arrangements for Christmas in advance. [00:18:46]
Our Lord Jesus Himself told His disciples, "Nevertheless, I'm telling you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you. And when He comes, He will convince the world of sin." [00:31:03]
Every true believer is born again by the Spirit of God. This seems to be very clear. John chapter 3, we're born of the Spirit. This experience they talk about today, it's a popular phrase in America, being born again. They talk about born again this and born again that. [00:32:36]
Every true believer is indwelled by the Spirit of God. Paul said to the Corinthians, "Don't you know that your bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and that God's Spirit dwells within you?" And then a word of warning: you do despite to the temple of God, your body, God will deal with you. [00:33:44]
The Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we're children of God. You know in your soul, He tells you. I remember when one of my boys was a tiny little fellow. He was born in Oxford, and I remember he came running in, playing with some other children outside. He was upset about something. [00:34:50]
Every true believer is baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ. Now the verse of Scripture I want to quote is, of course, from Corinthians: "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body." Every true believer has been baptized into the body of Christ. [00:36:23]
The initial filling of the Holy Spirit, it may be renewed time and time again. You might say, "Well, why do you make that preference?" Well, I'll put it this way: any time the Holy Spirit in the book of the Acts describes a believer having an experience of power, the term used is the term filled or full. [00:38:59]
The abiding evidence is the fruit of the Spirit: the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, moderation—all nine. If you have one, you have all nine. Don't think of it as an apple, a pear, a peach, or pomegranate. Think of a cluster of grapes. If you have one, you have all nine. [00:56:18]
The gifts are more like weapons that God gives us for service. But when it comes to this question of being evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit, I was preaching in a big church in Duluth, Minnesota. The Assembly of God pastor came every night, and he said to me, "I know you'd use different words to us." [01:01:00]
Ask, by the way, the Greek is keep on asking, and it will be given you. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and it will be opened unto you. The illustration He gives is supposing one of you fathers, and your son asks for fish, would you give him instead a snake? [01:15:55]
