1) "We need to remember the significance of Daniel's prayer. We need to remember that the 70-week prophecy is an answer to that prayer, and we need to understand how the prophecy answers the prayer. Let's begin by reading our text, Daniel chapter 9. I'm just going to read verses 20 through 23 to begin. and the sin of my people Israel and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God on behalf of the holy mountain of my God and while I was still speaking in prayer then the man Gabriel whom I had seen in the vision that previously touched me in my extreme weariness about the time of the evening offering." 2) "We need to remember Daniel's contrition. Second, remember Daniel's concern. We're reminded of Daniel's focus here. Why does he say he's doing these things, he's stacking all this participle string together, speaking and praying and confessing and presenting my supplication before Yahweh? Why? It's on behalf of the holy mountain of my God. Reminded of what Daniel is focused on. It's not just himself that he's thinking about here. It's not just his own well-being. It's not just that he wants to go back home to his land. He's thinking about the reputation of God as evidenced in the holy city Jerusalem." 3) "God's calendar was given, not just for us to check off boxes as we walk along, it's given to shape our character. It's given to get to our hearts. When we consider that God has a plan and He is operating according to His own timeline, this should give us great comfort. This should give us great confidence. No matter how insane the world gets, God still has his time and he is keeping it with perfect everything. Knowing this should give us confidence and courage. God answered Daniel's prayer. He let him know that his people, he, excuse me, God answered Daniel's prayer and let him and his people know that tough times were still ahead for them." 4) "Trust the process. Trust that the Lord knows what he's doing. He's got his plan, and he has the power to make it happen. It's not just that he has a plan and he hopes it comes to pass. No, he has a plan, and he is actively bringing it about. Trust him. Trust the Lord, even in times. Trust the Lord, even in times of distress. Lord, I thank you for this text. I thank you for what you've revealed here. And Lord, there are so many more details that we have yet to get into, and by your grace, we will study more of this text and see more of the details next week and get into it."
