Trusting God One Step at a Time Through Uncertainty

Hebrews 11:1 gives faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:8 then gives Abraham as the picture of that kind of faith. Abraham obeyed when God called him to go out, “not knowing where he was going.” God did not hand Abraham the whole blueprint. God gave him the next step. Faith did not rest in the destination. Faith rested in the God who was leading him.

Heartbreak is not good. Paul says God is so good that he can redeem even the things that were meant to destroy. God’s faithfulness usually makes the most sense looking backward, not forward.

The tapestry shows the tension. The backside looks messy, with knots, loose strings, and no clear picture. Human life is often lived from that backside. God sees the front. God knows the final picture, even when the present moment looks tangled and unfinished.

Proverbs 3:5 gives the third truth: faith chooses trust before understanding. Faith is not pretending life is easy, ignoring questions, or acting like fear never comes. Faith says, “God, I don’t understand this, but I know you, and because I know you, I can trust you.” Peter stepping onto the water shows that Jesus may call a person to do something never done before, in a way never felt before, right in the middle of a storm. The story is not finished just because the chapter is hard. The Author is still writing, still working, and still faithful.
